hey everyone, just wonderin if i could get a little help. ive only recently started lifting weights again after problems with back and i notice that one of my shoulders is bigger than the other. is there anyway way in which i can make them even? maybe im bein dumb here-is it simply a case of doing more with that shoulder than the other. or will it even out eventually. i find that my left shoulder and the right hand side of my chest are bigger than their counterparts. i dont wanna end up lobsided!! any help would be much appreciated. cheers.

    Hi,
Can you confirm its not an alignment issue. having played contact sports my left shoulder was about an inch lower than my right and twisted back about half an inch. In a t-shirt it was quite noticeable and looked like right was bigger that the left an osteopath sorted it all out after a few sessions.

Do you carry a laptop bag on the lower shoulder or some such heavy appendage?

If you are right handed then I would expect the right one is likely to be bigger. If you are working shoulders with military presses I suspect you might unconciously just end up lifting a greater portion of the weight with your right side. You could try dumbell training so you know each side is worked the same. When I do this I do indeed find I could get 1 rep more on my right arm. So you could cut back on the strong side and increase training on the weak side so it can catch up.
I did this until I could do the same reps on each arm.

Im cetainly noticing the extra lifting capability on my right arm and its now turning into a (perceived?) difference in the 2 visibly maybe.

I actually was gonna post this today, I thought it would be as simple as what
    Rubadub suggested, will start.

as far as i know there is no alignment issue. i say that because i have been to a physio a few times about my back and stuff and they have never commented on it, which i presume they would? em no i dont carry anythin heavy regularly on that shoulder. if i ever have bag on my back i use both straps so i dunno.. yeah ill try use dumbbells and work up that side i suppose. thanks for advice!
