Can anyone here recommend a site which has guides to good lifting?

I remember looking at a site a few years ago that had black and white animated gifs showing good form on the various lifts, does anyone know of it here (or others ones) and have a link?

    Thanks.

Sorry to take this thread down a side road but do you think the Arm Ergometer would be a half decent substitute when training for swimming the front crawl?

I ask because I'm preparing for triathlons starting beginning of June. Getting kitted up for swimming and to the pool takes alot of time, plus my technique is not too great.. so I'm hoping that my run and cycle will carry me if I manage an average swim time. The Arm Ergometer looks like the best gym exercise for swimming.

Thoughts? (apart from telling me to get in the pool and stop whining :) )

It looks like a doggy paddle.

Surely when doing the front crawl your arms are overhead (if you were standing up)

Also I don't think the front crawl is a perfectly circular motion.
Using your legs is important too.

I think it's hard to replicate swimming apart from actually swimming!

The best resistance exercise for swimming (according to a UK based coach I know) is to get yourself a bungee cord, loop it over the bannister on the stairs or something and practise going through your stroke. It's kinda hard to explain but if you're in either Dublin or Cork I could show you? [edit - just saw you're in London]

Oh and forget getting in the pool. THe water temperature in Dublin is now 8.5 C and a balmy 12 C in Cork so get into the sea;)

    Which triathlons are you doing?

Trib you're right, front crawl should not be a circular motion. When done like that it's often called windmilling and very weak swimmers often windmill to use brute force to stay afloat. Legs are important for swimming for swimmers, for triathletes the legs should only be used for balance as you'll need them for the bike and run legs.

Trib - yes obviously the arm ergometer is not a proper swimming motion but if you have a better gym solution let me know.

HunnyM - I'm doing Blenheim, London and perhaps Bournemouth and one or two others. The first two will more than likely be sprints, moving up to Olympic for the others. Was hoping to do Olympic at London, but the people I want to race against are opting for sprint... no fun doing Olympic on own if no healthy competition.
