Should warmer weather be a concern when exercising?

    Hi folks,

Yep, exactly as it says on the tin. I power walk approximately four miles a day and to me, this is quite a lot (I know: pitiful to Dragan and co, but I'm only a weakling yet :)). Just wondering, now that the weather's warmer - and it looks like we're in for a scorcher in a couple of months' time - is it unsafe to over-exert yourself? Obviously I wouldn't be exercising at midday - I try to leave it as late as possible, and of course, with the days getting longer, that's going to become easier and easier. But in the summer, it might still be very warm by, say, 9pm. But is it ok to still push myself as long as I have plenty to drink in my bag?
    Forgive the garbled post...

you should be fine as long as you have plenty to drink. It is a good idea to wear a hat though to keep the sun off your head and a pair of sunglasses too.

You should be fine, I find the warm weather a great time to train in. Make sure your hydrated, but at that distance it shouldn't be an issue. Even on a very warm day here the temp won't stop me training, I was out in the miday sun for a 30k run today so a four miles you will be fine. If you worried about your hydration remember the runners adage and check your urine. If its yellow or brown your water is down, if its clear and bright your water is right!

Thanks guys. Actually, I'd leave it as late as possible in the day anyway - I'm talking well into the evening, so sun wouldn't even be a concern. It's more temperature I'm talking about. For example, even though it's not very sunny today, it's very humid. And I was out exercising today and was perspiring considerably so that's what caused my concern.
And Odysseus: 30k and it's not even a marathon - holy crap, that's impressive!

Odysseus thinks nothing of hashing out 100 km runs (2 1/2 marathons!)

Anyway, hydration is very important but a mistake a lot of people new to exercise make is to over hydrate. It's very unlikely in Ireland and almost certainly you wouldn't drink enough during a 4 mile walk to do this to a dangerous level but take a read of
    this wiki just in case.

No problem once you are hydrated properly-unless your scared of sweat!!:D

A bottle of water, some sun cream, sun glasses and maybe a hat and the warm weather is there to be enjoyed!!!
