From the other thread, Flipper has agreed to answer questions.

I think he said he wouldn't be around til Sunday to answer.

    1) What games are you currently playing online? Stakes/sites?

    2) How good is your bankroll management?

    3) How could the poker forum be improved?

    4) If you could ban one person from the forum who would it be?

    5) Are you Busto?

ive heard numerous times about your investments outside poker.exactly what are these investments and do they generate much money for you?or are they more long term?(fair enough if this is too personal)

would you consider yourself pro/semi-pro atm?how many hours a week do you play?

in one of your recent threads about a live hand in macau you said something like your holdem game was fairly weak.do you honestly beleive this?

Hey, I'll be able to answer questions for about an hour and maybe for a little bit late tonight but it will be Sunday before I'll be able to sit doen and give some time to them.

1)I play Stars, Prima, Ladbrokes, Sun Poker, Full Tilt and Betfair. I suppose the game I play the most is $3/$6 to $5/$10 but I can be found playing anywhere from $1/$2 to $25/$50. At this very moment in time, I'm playing $2/$4 to $5/$10 on my girlfriends' Full Tilt account (because I wanted a new screen name. Obv, I mostly play PLO. I'm a NLH fish.

    2) Worse than useless. It's funny, I ADVISE loads of people on bankroll management buy rarely practice it myself. I am good at spending money I've earned on stuff thou so I don't leave it in the poker community!

    3) At times it can be very unfocused. 2+2 has loads of different sections and you can find exactly what you want but boards isn't big enough for that yet IMO.

    4) NtlBell and 5Starpool as they seem to have a particular disliking for me for no apparent reason.

    5) No. Up to 6 months ago, I have no seperation between my poker "roll" and life "roll" and now I do. For that reason, I'm not playing with as much money as I used to. I have a decent income outside of poker and it's nice to not have to rely on it for a wage. I don't think I could be a full time "pro" but I admire the likes of KPnuts, Scott Grey, Tony Cooney, Halibut etc who do.

    1) I have a lot of money in shares in an oil company which are performing well. That's not really a topic I want to discuss in a public forum but if we meet in person, ask me and I'll chat to you no problem. I chat to a lot of my poker friends about this stuff fairly often. SOME of them are smart and want to put some of their big tanks into use!

    2) I'm not really sure atm. I play a lot less than I used to live and a little more online. I might go 3 weeks now without playing live but up until the big PLO game in Cork ended (where I built my roll initally), I was playing 4-5 nights a week for 8-10 hours a night. Right now, I might put in 12-15 hours online a week.

    3) It's rusty. I think I'm a well above average NLH tourney player and honestly think I'm one of the best situational readers in the Irish scene (without sounding bigheaded). As for cash, I think I'm a donator in the long run in NLH. I probably don't have enough mass on the money to make big laydowns etc. Bad characteristic really.

Who do you rate as the best PLO player playing now?

What is your favourite live tournament?

If you were to play a six seater tournament with five other players of your choice, who would those five players be? What stakes and what game would you play?

What is your favourite Omaha starting hand?

How did you progress to playing 5/10 or whatever PLO? Did you play up through the levels or just sit down?

Was there a point where you finally started to understand PLO ( like a light switching on ) or are you still in the dark?

Whats the best piece of advice you have ever been given in the real work and in the poker world?

    Thanks alot

1)In Ireland? Halibut2, Tony Cooney, Tom Hanlon and Denis Winters in that order. I also hear Peter Roche is very good but we've only played online. I'm up on him a little in PLO but way down in NLH cos I lost a $15,000 pot to him with AK vs As9s on a Ah3s6sXx board.

    2) I love the festivals in the Macau. Ran well with great structues. I loved the E-WSOP in Vienna last year also.

    3) I have 5 in mind but it wouldn't be right to list the 5 worst omaha players in Ireland on here. We can play as BIG as they want :)

    4) Hands like AAJTds or 5678ds. Play well HU or multiway.

    5) I went through phases. Sometimes I'd lodge in big amounts of cash and play with 4 buyins in my a/c and other times I'd deposit say $1,000 and try to play smaller to build it. i'm doing that a lot lately because I'm trying to plug my biggest flaw - jumping into bigger games. I can't wait for Stars to bring in the "set your table limits" option!

    6) I picked it up pretty fast in the game in Cork. I was in over my head at the time and basically ran well (back in '05). I was in college and built a roll to about €40-50k playing that game over a few months before winning the Irish Championship in Jan '06. The game consisted of both terrible players (will remain nameless) and great players that I learned PLO from (Gavin Stephens, Zeik Tuit, Tony Cooney etc). You had to learn fast in that company - otherwise your roll would disappear! I'd ask a lot of questions and constantly ask myself "why did he do that?" etc.

    7) I suppose money management is everything. That's a hard question. I'll think about it and edit this later.

A little but it doesn't bother me. I ask for it half the time. I hold no grudges with anyone and would be as quick having a pint with any of the guys that have abused me in the past as I would with friends I've got through poker.

Why do you think you are abused here? As someone who dosnt know you I have no reason to dislike you but when you post a lot of people jump on the I hate flipper bandwagon.

how did you originally build up your bankroll?

I'm not sure. At the time I won the Irish Championship, the Dublin poker scene was very clicky. I guess that's where the hatred started and it was jeleously. Mybe I'm wrong. As it happens, I'm friends with a lot of guys from the "click" now!

How the Fock do you use this without going blind ?

Have you ever actually played 12 x SNG's?

will you take a €10 bet that you can't play 12 Turbo SNG's without losing the will to live halfway through?

I made a packet from dvd "duplication" when I was in college. I mean A LOT. I started playing all the weekly tourneys in the Macau and had some great results. I eventually started playing the €1/€2 round of each game for 8 hours a night and for the other 16 hours, I was pretty much analysing the hands from the night before. I beat that game fairly well and jumped into (over my head) the big PLO game. It played massive with me with an €800 stack and everyone else with at least €2k. Cooney might occassionally sit in with a million or something.

"Big names" that I am quiet friendly with like Mel Judah and Roy Brindley are great ambassadors for the game. Dave Colcough is one of my favourite players since I started playing I think

    1) Lol, I couldn't live without it! I typically don't play more than 2-3 tables at a time but I'll use 1 screen for internet browsing and the other for watching videos. I'm big into 24, Prison Break, Heroes, CSI, Criminial Minds, Lost etc. I have 2 x 250gb drives nearly full of video!

    2) Ya a few times but it's hard. Personally, I'd rather work in McDonalds than to play SNG's for a living. (no disrespect to anyone who does!)

    3) For sure! I'll bet on anything!

    1) I was 23 then and I've been playing since I was 16. Back then, I played in a €5 deal or €5 ante (big that time - it's €40 a round of the table) of 5 card draw, joker wild, southern cross, badugi, bad hand buy twice, rollin' joker etc. i suppose that's where I learnt the game.

    2) Maybe.. Mybe not. Depends on if I can take that much time off work (would like to go for 3-4 weeks) but probably yes.

    3) Not quiet. He's much more handsome.

On a Serious note Kieron , In my opinion you get unjustified comments on this forum alot .. I have met u a good few times and regard you as a friend , I always feel comments are not justified on Boards against you .. Does this get to you when u see these comments .

Where do u see yourself this time next year in The poker World ...

will you learn how to do multiple Quotes in your answers?

It's spelt KIERAN, ok Neoille? Ya I like you a lot and think you've done great things for poker in the south. I always try to support your events. Addressed this already and it does a little at times but I'm pretty thick skinned. I give as good as I get and get a major kick out of winding some of the boardsies up! Bops is still the #1 man at that thou!

I hope that next year I'll play better, less often and even bigger than I do now. I play for the rush of the game and there's no bigger rush than ripping a MTT final table apart. Last time I did that was the final table at the Xmas festival in the Macau. It felt good :D

    1) Probably not as it's far too difficult. You're welcome to edit them if you want... Although, I'm not sure if I'd trust you with my Boards password... Come back tomorrow to find a hot thread entitled "I've slept with my aunt... What next?..." or something like that in the after dark section!

    2) I have selective memory. Why do you so obviously try to copy my Ralph lauren polo shirt look? We're both far too fat for it anyway :(

    3) you're not in Cork. PLO: Tony Cooney without a doubt. I'd put myself in the top few thou. Zeik Tuit has great ability but a terrible temperment for the game. Gavin Stephens can be very good when he wants to be. He sees things on much the same levels I do. Eoin Tobin is a great young tourney player but he sucks at cash.

Hi flipper, best of luck on this mission in the "well"

1:--What happenened that the big omaha game in Cork broke up?

2:--Is there any reason in particular that most of the big players are not now playing in the Maccau and is there any truth in the rumour that a new poker only club is due to open in cork city?

3:-- What do you work at outside of poker?

4:--Is the fact that your now keeping your gambling "roll" seperate from your living roll the reason yopu didnt play in the IO?

5:-- Did any sponsorship offers arise after you won the IPC last year? Being both young and a winner, I'd imagine a sponsorship deal should have been possible?

Hope theres nothing too personnal there.

i don't know ya either so to me yer just one of the young guys who appear to be successful at this ol game of cards. The boards berating ive not thought too bad from what i've seen.

Leinster V Munster at poker, who would win? and pick two teams of 5 for the match.

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

Who is the most annoying person on this forum (after me that is)?

Have you ever won a big online tournament?/

'Flipper' is this name after the dolhin or becuase you don't curse?

good man at taking the stick on the chin, it could be worse they could just ignore you.

Hey Connie, see you in a couple of weeks! PS: put me down.
    1) Combination of things... Too much borrowing money went on and it eventually got out of hand. Mick was the first to be barred but that was just as I joined. Pat was then barred and was a big loss as he was always another body. They brought the internet into the Macau and that took Gav and the doc out of the game. Those people were barred for stupid reasons and it's a shame. Finally Bob and Gavin were barred and that was the end of it.

    2) They don't play cos there's no game. I believe there is to be another club. Sideshow will know more than me on this. No comment other than that! :o

    3) I'm involved in a family company that has lots of interest from property to steel and everything in between. Personally, I'm into the specialised welding side of things - robotics, micro plasma etc. Sounds cooler than it is. They also do all the imports for Johnson & Johnson's biomechanical plant. I've nothing to do with that thou.

    4) No. €3.5k isn't a problem if my heart is in the tourney. It wasn't.

    5) I was breifly approached by Blue SQ but I put them off as Boyles said they wanted to do something with me. A week or two passed and I heard nothing. I contacted them and they said they changed their minds. That pissed me right off. I've had a few little talks with people but nothing has ever came out of it. obviously, I'd love if it did.

    1) I assume you mean tournament poker? Leinster would win easy. Halibut, Masters, Niall O' C, Dave O' C and Norwich fan rob vs Me, Eoin Tobin, Nicky Power, Caoimh O Sullivan and I'd put Cooney in if the stakes were high enough to get him to play properly

    2) Hopefully much the same as where I am right now but a little richer.

    3) Sideshow cos he can't type and it's impossible to read his posts. Gholimoli's are also hard to read but they're good so that's ok!

    4) I won the $100 rebuy on stars once and qualified for the Poker Million netting $14k along with the $23k ticket. Don't play many tourneys online actually. I won the $162 turbo on Betfair a few nights ago on a friends a/c actually. We shared the winnings.

    5) Because me hair is in the shape of a fin. Sharp people down here in Cork

    Mac
    1) In tourneys. That might have been shot from the hip but I think it's nearly correct... Vincent Mellin got €200k for the IO (3 way chop afaik) and I think Padraig might be a little ahead of me. I wasn't quoting fact.... Just silencing the critics.

    2) Wow, I'm not too sure. Live probably €10,000 each way (maybe a little less on the "lose" side). Online, I won a pot for about $20k during one of my Pokerstars spinups! It was a multiway all-in with my 6789 making the nuts. One memorable hand from early days in the Macau was against Gavin. We were 4 handed (me, Cooney, Colm and Gavin) and and Gav's final bluff with 7xxx on a QJ772 board couldn't shake my JJxx. I went into the tank on the turn so to represent a bad 7xxx hand myself. That pot was about €7k or €8k. It's memorable because there was a huge uproar after the hand for a ruling as when Gav made the last bet, I just said nothing and turned my cards face up and pushed the JJ forward. Two seconds later, I pushed my stack forward! Gav was a good sport about it all and while he was a little odd that night, we spoke about it the following day and everything was fine.

    3) One losing pot that springs to mind that really bothered me (I'm usually not a sore loser at all) happened during the Summer festival last year in Cork. A (ahem..) not terribly great player from Waterford called my turn all in bet of about €2,000 with QQxx on a J963 board (something like that) when I was holding JJ45. I remember showing the cards to Halibut and saying "what cards do I have to avoid?!" to which my opponent replied "eh, just the wan (one, in english) and up popped the CASE Queen. I just remembered throwing the cards in the air and thinkin I was going to give up poker after that! I had ran bad all weekend and that really hurt. It was about an €8k-€9k pot. That same day, my AdAc3d4s lost to XxXx4x5x and another hand of garbage all in for €2k a man on a Ac2d9d board. Devore might remember - he was standing behind me.

    4) Hard to say atm as no one knows what's going to happen with regard to regulation etc. I'd love to see a WPT staged here though. I also hope the Irish Open is developed properly over the coming years. We are so lucky to have such a tourney with such heratige and it'll be a shame if it turns into something created for TV, not for the players.

    5) No, not any more. It's all too confusing atm and I'm getting a little bored with it actually.

    6) You missed the start of this series? Defo, watch from the start. You've never seen an episode of any series? You could survive without watching the rest of the series but you really should take the time. There's underlying plots throughout the series and to appreciate it fully, you have to follow these too IMO.

    Thanks, it's hard work!

    5) Do you believe in "rushes"?

    6) I have to say I have somtimes felt that things said to you on this forum have been a little out of line and you have always dealt with them well and shown a bit of class.
    1) No, never been close. Even at the start, I had loads of money for the game I was playing.

    2) I bet large and infrequently. I might have 3 or 4 really big bets a year. I had €8k on Chelsea recently in a match (can't remember against who) at 1/4 and they won. That was my biggest and I never usually bet on soccer. I would play pool for sizable amounts and pretty much anything else I think I might have an edge in... Even pitch 'n toss... Ask KP!

    3) In Vienna, I stayed in the Cardroom playing from Friday night to Sunday morning or something ridiculous like that. For half that, I was playing a MAD chinese guy HU in €10/€20 NLH. He wanted to switch to €50/€100 PLO but I didn't have enough money with me (I only had about €25k). I was very, very tired after that one. And my mouth tasted like a bin.

    4) I didn't win the IO, I won the Irish Championship. My unlce had 25%. He settled for €20k in the end as far as I can remember.

    5) Not sure about that one...

    6) Thank you. Very nice compliment.

    hi flipper

    1) what film did you go see

    2) was it a good film

    now serious questions

    3) who is the trickiest player you have played in both mtt's and cash plo/nlh

    4) do you fear anyone in the irish poker scene

    5) have you experienced a large downward swing from becoming a big winner to a big loser and if so have you coped with this

    6) what has been your lowest moment in poker

    7) what would you change about your game

    8) what is the best poker book you have read
    Cheers
    Fran
    1)Shooter

    2) Yes, it is brilliant. One of the best I've seen this year for sure but Louise thought it was only ok. My cousins are on the way over with it right now so I can watch it again!

    3) Ummm, Tony G is excellent. you really feel uncomfortable when he talks to you in a hand for some reason. I really like Bambos as a player also. Rory Matthews also plays really well.

    4) In PLO, no not really. In NLH, there's dozens of players I wouldn't play HU.

    5) I can't say that I really have. One good thing about me (I think) is that I keep a pretty level head be it going up or coming down.

    6) Like I posted above, when I lost with that set of Jacks to the pairs of Queens, I began to lose all hope for the game. I just stopped playing for a little when and did other things I enjoy.

    7) I pretty much like my game. Probably be less of a calling station. I'd also like to be able to manage a roll better.

    8) I posted here on my blog and that pretty much tells you everything. I loved Rolf Slotbooms' PLO book. Very new and different.

    Hey Kieran,

    1) If you could invite 4 poker players, past or present to dinner, who would they be?

    2) Realistically, whats your poker ambition?

    3) Which do you find easier to do, make a tough call or make a tough laydown?

    4) Are you playing the macau festival in 6 weeks?

    Cheers

    Tony

    1) Tricky. Probably Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Ram Vaswami and Marc Goodwin and have a good chuckle to myself as they fight over Ivey cleaning then on the golf course and never collecting!

    2) It would be a dream come true to win a bracelet. If I had a choice of winning the Monte Carlo ME for €2M next year or a $1,000 bracelet event for $200k, I'd take the latter every day.

    3) Definately making a tough call. Is that bad?

    4) For sure. Best festivals in the country. Already have the €1,500 main event ticket in my safe

    Cheers Flipper

Its pretty clear to see from your posts here and in previous threads that money isnt the driving factor behind why you play. I think a lot of players would like to be able to play with that sort of freedom (if you can call it that)

Good answers aswel. Nothing wrong with it being easier to make a tough call, just shows the gambler in you lol!

I'll see down in Cork in May. GL

Are you going to start concentrating on NL tournaments again or stick with cash?

What are your aims for the rest of 2007?

When is your book coming out?

Have you ever considered moving out of cork, maybe up to dublin for the Fitz PLO especially now that the Macau seems to be dead?

Are you going to vegas, and if so what will you play?

Is it worth downloading prison break (i've watched up to the first half of the first season when they dug the first tunnell)

    sry to hijack flipper,

Thanks jeoff, I keep on hearing about west wing but haven't watched a single episode. The Wire (http://www.hbo.com/thewire/) is also excellent, another HBO classic. It got very little coverage in ireland but is on a par with sopranos if not ahead of it.. I downloaded Season 1 a while back and I'm hooked. It's about drug dealers and detectives in baltimore, but is not just another cop show. It follows an individual case over 13 episodes each season. It goes into huge detail and develops the characters really well. I think they're showing season 4 on Sci Fi or something now... but I have first 3 seasons if anyone wants them?

    1) I'd like to but the travelling and the time involved is a problem for me at the moment. I think tourneys are where I'm most at home.

    2) I'm not sure. I'd like to release the book and maybe to win a couple of decent tourneys. I'm more into the title of "winner" than the prize money tbh.

    3) Not sure yet. D&B will probably be the publishers as they have shown a lot of interest. It's unreal difficult to get guys to commit to sitting down for an hour!

    4) If I didn't have anything in Cork, I'd already be there but I have a girlfriend and work commitments. That PLO game in the Fitz is gold. You guys don't know how lucky you are to have that on your doorstep!

    5) Answered this already. Maybe... Maybe not. I'd like to go for 3-4 weeks but I'm not sure if I can take that kind of time off. I'd probably play as many bracelet events as possible even though they are supposed to be bad value. It's the wristwear I'm interested in.

    6) As I told you on MSN, it's the best show out there and it keeps getting better! Download it now

You guys should also look at Criminal Minds. Like CSI only much, much better.

    Hi bro!

    1) What site would you recommend for building up a roll on using proper bankroll management (which I shan't ask you for advice on), playing micro-stakes on upwards? I'm thinking of putting $500 into an account and using the "buy in for 5% of roll, double it, and leave" strategy, and not playing .50/1 and 1/2 on Stars on an $800 account.

    2) If you make a million at the WSOP this year, will you buy me into the main event and the Razz event in 2008? :D I'll give you 10% when I win the back-to-back bracelets.

    1) there are other people on here that would be better able to answer that. In my experience, FTP seems to be pretty soft as does iPoker (GJP and PPP). Stars are introducing a "set your limit" feature soon where you can limit the size of game you play. Should be useful for bankroll management.

    2) Ummmm.... Ok

1.Do you ever play 7 card stud and if so how do you rate it as a poker game?

2.Do you / have you ever played limit games?

3.Did Tony G berate you or tilt you in any way when you've played against him?

4.In order of importance how would you rate these poker playing charachteristics - aggression, mathematics, patience?

    5. I think you had a thread before saying you sucked online but were excellent live(paraphrasing). This would imply that you depend on physical reads to an extent..? If so,(if that was indeed a thread by you) do you trust your gut 100% playing live. Will you bet your stack with nothing if you feel confident your opponent wont call?

    6. Have you played against Bluescouse(saw a link on his blog) and if so is he difficult to play against. Many feel he is an idiot etc but I get the impression he has the heart of a lion and could be a brilliant tournament player if he got a bit of coaching from the likes of errr..maybe yourself

Again, I don't know you but you come across as an interesting charachter and I'm ashamed to say I find the flipper bashing/ flipper fights back threads entertaining in a jerry springer sort of way. gl in the world series if you go

    1) I never play 7 stud but I used to play a lot of 7 stud hi/lo. It's beatable but it's a grind - like any split pot game.

    2) I played my only limit tourney in Singapore and did well - out just before the bubble - set vs flush draw in a big pot. I once spun my tribeca account up from $500 to $28,000 and lost it all playing $150/$300 limit holdem. I did not have a clue what I was doing!

    3) He doesn't "berate" you. In fact, I find him to be very plesant and friendly. He seems to be very good at putting you on hands and telling you them. When someone tells you your exact hand, it can throw you off a little. I've tried to adapt his style of play actually.

    4) They're all equally important I guess. For me I'm agression, mathematics and then patience.

    5) Yes, I do rely on reads. Some people say that they are over-rated but that's crap. There's nothing like making an opponent sweat over a pot and using your stack to put pressure on them. I also enjoy playing really deep-stacked. I do try to make some players at the table really hate me (by basically annoying them) and this drives them to bluffing more.

    6) No, I've never played with Ed. We chat on MSN and he's a good guy. I think he's learnt a lot from his experiences and I'm sure that with the proper moulding, he could be a great tourney player.
