Up against the number one ranked team in the world for the second time in this tournament. Can Ireland pull off the biggest shock ever? I doubt it very much

    Thoughts?

    Updates here tomorrow

If we're put in to bat, we might be bowled out for very few going on yesterdays game.

This one was always going to be rough. Ah well. We can pretty much gaurantee that Ireland will give it whatever they have got. Hopefully that will be enough to keep things respectable. And you can't ask for anything more.

Well said. I don't think it will be embarrassing, but a hiding is a distinct possibility. Still, we haven't been disgraced yet (even the Kiwi game was no disgrace, just a beating from a better team) so I have confidence in the lads to deliver a performance worthy of themselves.

Might slide to the bookies at lunchtime, just to see what an upset is priced at...

    betting odds with PP:australia 1-200,ireland 14-1.

sh1t odds on both sides,i mean only 14-1 on ireland,i should at least 20s.

top scoring batsman should provide some better value

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

38 on betfair....even that isn't good odds IMO!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 842 ✭✭✭dereko1969

hopefully we'll win the toss, bat - eke out 130ish and then get a couple of wickets. hopefully we'll see lanky's ferret dance a couple of times and uptown boyd rankin launching a few at pontings nose!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 429 ✭✭gbh

If we can score more than 100 runs and hold them to less than 400, then realistically we would have done well.

not really....400 has only been done a handful of times.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 842 ✭✭✭dereko1969

they won the toss and put is in, surprised at that but glad all the same. just to put it in context australia's average (when they batted first) in this WC was 350, so glad we're batting!! now where's that live feed.....

G€€, bray gone for 1. This could be ugly

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

I hope we can see out McGrath and Tait before being all out....

    Batsmen can't cope with pace.

    Tait on a hat-trick....

    2 runs, 3 wickets down...

    test status for ireland!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

Morgan gone... caught at slip, off Mcgrath. 2 wickets each for Tait and McGrath

    12/4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Ireland once bowled West Indies out for 25!

    This is ugly.

35 is the lowest in an ODI. Zimbabwe have that record.

Just 2 more to go now!! Wait, make that 1. 35 is looking somewhat possible alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

    Ireland 42-6 after 13

White got done by a McGrath slower ball having been nailed on the helmet a few balls earlier.

O'Brien out now as well, caught clipping off his legs.

just a quirk of the bulliten board and timing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

Will they even get 70?:o

Well they certainly wont get many more from where they are now.

59-7 now, 17 overs gone. Johnston played on to Tait. No batsmen left. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    Ireland 59/7 after 17 overs

At least my worst nightmare, being bowled out for a world record low, hasn't materialised. Small mercies and all that.

I think its spitting rain on the TV! :D

trent johnston seems to have scored around 20 in every match of this tournament

Looks unlikely now that Ireland could avoid finishing bottom of the super 8s. I had thought that their run rate might be good enough to get 7th if they beat bangladesh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    Ireland 70/7 after 19 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Just to put things in perspective, Bangladesh were 65-6 on this pitch versus England. Their attack is arguably weaker too. So its not all doom and gloom.

    21 overs gone, Ireland 72-8

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

If they can get 100 out of this innings they'll save some embarrasment. Johnson has got to continue keeping it tight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

    80-9. Langford-Smith out

wha? no one can beat australia right now, i would reckon srlanka would put on a good challange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Ireland 91 all out in the 30th over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,854 ✭✭✭zuutroy

    Thats puuuuurty nasty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,475 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

after being 12/4 & 59/7 to get to 91 is a bit of a relief

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

The Aussies will fancy knocking off 92 in an hour, before the scheduled lunch break.... Hussey shunted up the order to open with Gilchrist.

    Australia 9/0 after 1 over.

Morgans batting overall has been poor in this tournament -- fielded well -- and whats happened our opener Bray ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    18/0 after 3.

Yeah Morgan hasnt come to the party at all really, disappointing.

Bray has kinda been sorted out by the other teams. They've seen he's a good off-side player and have bowled straight to him where hes not as strong. Thats why hes struggled I think.

another shocker from bray , 2 runs in total from the last 4 games :(
