Now do you want to tell me who broke the pull up bar in the TCD gym? You're the only person I know remotely strong enough.:D

    Only teasing.

Sorry to randomly jump in... but how long has this been going on... cause about 3 years ago there was this wiley girl in the TCD gym that demolished the machines. I used to enjoy always having to increase the weights (because all the really strong/serious athletes used the free weights) and then one day there was this girl and she destroyed me on every machine going. Thankfully there was no gym membership back then so I could hide out in the library til my self esteem grew back :D

Dunno how long g'em has been around but she does had a couple of world records to her name so if there is destroying to be done, she'll be the one doing it. Having said that, I don't for one minute really think she broke the thing. I imagine it got thrashed in the move to the new gym.

Mind you even I (as the weakest person on boards) have to up the weights on the machines. Some people just don't put any effort in.

I doubt that! For a start you haven't met me....

Maybe she did break the thing, just so no one else can challenge her records!
Yeah... some people have hilarious amounts of resistance on machines... some people actually don't even put any weights on it. I imagine that'd do more damage to you then good... ya know if you're trying to pick up a big rock and then you discover it's a styrofoam prop... messes ya up big time!

G'em didn't get those records by using loads of machines, that's for certain!

Hunnymonster, care to give a review of the newly refurbished gym?

au contraire, I adhere rigidly to Super High Intensity Training (10% bw isolation lifts, high reps all the way - if you're doing less than 6 sets of 50, you'll never turn that fat into muscle - centring around the adductor and abductor machines and some bicep curls on a bosu ball if I'm feeling adventurous) coupled with a Carb Resistant Anti-anabolic Protocol diet - two meals a day with an emphasis on the much forgotten fourth macro-group: 5% P: 5% C: 2% F: 96% Deep Fried, supplemented with fizzy drinks for hydration (full sugar naturally, water is for losers).

A true winning formula if ever I saw one.

I've busted many a machine on a super-anabolic diet of kebabs and beer!

    Awwww...

    I read this

and was about to go over to the thread I started to ask the same question and go "HA.. if g'em said it it must be true".

Then I read the rest of the post :(

Heh heh, I didn't get the ripping the piss with the abducter madness, but I damn well know that Deep Fried isn't the 4th group... it's the 5th. Everyone knows the 4th is "beericus drinkingus alcoholymus inmy tummymus". See... that's how I foiled my own stupidity! Hurrah!

There's a few strong girls around. There's one in my Gym who runs off 30-40 full press-ups with 10Kg on here back and it doesn't knock a bother out of her.

The guys around don't know how to handle it!

Are there any statistics on the relative strengths for different types of moves for men and women? Obviously our own WR holder is an exceptional individual but I was wondering about benchmarks....

.... Anyway wondering aside, I'm going to take off early today. I have a bump on the back of my head and a headache from a little accident with a bar this morning (see blog for the embarassing details) and that combined with the good weather combined with having been on call for last 72 hours means I'm taking a half day :D

There were loads in my old gym but they were real stereotypical former-Eastern block beastly man-sized women... they looked scary so you kinda expected them to kick ass, but then you get a lil secretly uber-toned pocket rocket of a lady and she can leave most men dazed and confused.
