it has completely shut down my computer, well not completely. I tried to download a codec file but obviously, it went wrong. Windows explorer is not working comes back and forth back and forth. Plus, the bottom part where you can view programs/pics and use run and search doesn't work half the time. Please help me get rid of it.

First you need to make sure that HijackThis is run from its own folder, not from a zipped file, so the backups it creates are saved.

    * Open My Computer, then click C:\ and then on Program Files or another folder that is easy to find.
    * In the menu bar choose File >> New >> Folder.
    * That will create a folder named New Folder, rename it to HJT or some other name you are likely to remember.
    * Copy and paste the zipped folder here, right click on the zipped folder containing HijackThis, choose Extract files, extract it to this path: C:\Program Files\HJT or whatever you named it.

Please run HijackThis from this folder from now on.

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

    Open Windows Defender.
    Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Run HijackThis, click "Do a system scan only" and put a check beside these entries :

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A6ACAE64-F798-4930-AD86-BD3FB32038DB} - (no file)
    O13 - Gopher Prefix:

Close all windows except for HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

You now need to update your Java and remove your older versions.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

    * Click Start > Control Panel.
    * Click Add/Remove Programs.
    * Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name.
    * Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6, and install it to your computer.
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 > Click Download > Accept the license agreement > Download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe 13.16 MB

Your using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your pc open to vulnerabilities, you can update it here :
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

    Now to re-enable Windows Defender
    Open Windows Defender.
    Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and check Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you check this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

    What is
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ECenter] c:\dell\E-Center\EULALauncher.exe

Can you tell me more about these pop-ups. Are you getting pop-ups trying to get you to buy programs? Tell me how all this goes and post another HJT log

Well, i am having trouble extracting it. I have vista btw. Also, I dont know how to disable defender.

Please download the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here:

    HijackThis_sfx download

    Save HijackThis_sfx to your desktop.

Double-click the file then click the Unzip button. Then close the Self-Extractor window.

Using My Computer/Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe to run it. If you would like to make a shortcut for your Desktop so it's more easily accessable, right click HijackThis.exe and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut).

Please run the extracted HijackThis.exe from now on. Delete any copies of HijackThis.zip that you have saved.

Then do all the steps in my above post(with the exception of putting HJT in its own folder which you just hopefully did).

Did my method for disabling Windows Defender not work? Try this way instead
    http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/02/15/how-to-disable-windows-defender-from-starting-when-vista-boots/

Make sure you re-enable it @ the very end after everything is done.

IE doesn't restart, but everythign else does when it says windows is restarting which it does every 5 seconds.

So you wouldn't be able to run HijackThis and do the fixes I mentioned(ignore everything else, just the fixes)? A lot of tools that I would recommend to use dont work on Vista yet which is annoying. Try boot into Safe Mode and run a full system scan with Windows Defender.

Can you please repost the things that i HAVE to do to get rid of this virus, i can barely do **** as it is.

Okay, ive got the HijackThis up and working, but when i try to make a new folter to move it to it wont let me add slashes or whatever, all I can use is CProgram FilesHJT. would that work?

put HijackThis anywhere you can, except for in a temp directory.

Here are the instructions to do :

Disable Windows Defender by following the steps here :

Run HijackThis, click "Do a system scan only" and put a check beside these entries :

Okay, I downloaded the updates. Also, it does this windows isnt' working it closes all desktop icons for about 10 seconds then they come back then if i try to click on one that is related to windows explorer it will close next 5 seconds. Eventually, It just shuts down the desktop icons and the area where the time is and start button is just dissapears. So I am stuck with the programs i have up right now.

I restarted the computer and got HijackThis working and this came up For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file.
If any hijacked domains are in this file, Hijack htis may NOT be able to fix this. If that happens, you need to edit the file the yourself. To do this, click start, run and type:
notepad "C:/Windows/System/drivers/etc/hosts" and press enter. find hte linnes Hijackthis reports and delite them. Save the file as "hosts." and press Enter. Find hte line Hijacck this reports and delite them. Save the file as hosts." with quites, and reboot.

Again, In the jmiddle of scanning.
An unexpected error accured at the procedure:
    modMain_CheckOther1Item() Error #75-Path/File access Error.....

You need to get this done, if it goes blank when doing this just leave it for a while :

Run HijackThis, click "Do a system scan only" and put a check beside these entries :

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A6ACAE64-F798-4930-AD86-BD3FB32038DB} - (no file)
    O13 - Gopher Prefix:

    Click Fix Checked

    Please download F-Secure BlackLight
    • Save BlackLight to your desktop.
    • Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
    • Click > Scan then > Next
    • After the scan you'll see a list of all items found. Please click Next and exit. Don't choose to rename anything yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there.
    • There will be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (where the xxxxxxx are numbers)
Please post the contents of this log in your next reply.

No problem, its a shame your using Vista, makes it very hard to help you since barely any pc security programs will run on it. Make sure to post the log for Blacklight in your next reply.

Na im quite sure we can fix whatever problems you have. Try the following(tell me if they dont work on Vista) :

please run the Panda scan here:

Choose to "Disinfect automatically," and follow the prompts. Delete any viruses found, and restart your computer.

    Go here

Tell me what they find please.

Nice one, reason it was harder to help your pc was cause your on Vista. Smitfraudfix doesnt work on Vista, wasn't fully sure if you had smitfraud.

    O18 - Filter hijack: text/xml - {807563E5-5146-11D5-A672-00B0D022E945} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE12\MSOXMLMF.DLL

018 entries are Extra protocols and protocol hijackers. This one is perfectly safe, its related to microsoft office.

Smitfraud gets around via dodgy codecs like the other person said. What tools did you use asdflvr92?

Just run some anti-spyware scanner in safe mode and it should fix it. like SUPERAntiSpyware or AVG
