CWC Day 22 Thread - England V Sri Lanka

As the the English camp keep on repeating "our world cup begins here" (Conviently forgetting the loss to NZ and 3 not so great wins over associate countries.

Arguments can made for England winning, but for me, just the bowling attacks just dont compare.

Unless one of the English batsmen pulls out a huge performance, then its Sri Lanka by a mile for me.

    Thoughts?

    Updates here tomorrow

England to get slaughtered, unless both Pietersen and Collingwood get big scores.

    Has Joyce been dropped?

    Has Joyce been dropped?

Noises from the England camp say Strauss plays. Its likely that Joyce will be the fall guy.

    Sri Lankan win.

Gotta go against you there for the first time County.

Sri Lanka all the way for me.

Sri Lanka should win on paper, but you have to expect England to up their game. And their key players: Collingwood, Pietersen and Flintoff, are all starting to show form and Panesar is bowling well. They need to get rid of Jayasuria early I think.

    From cricinfo

England won the toss and elected to field first

England are unchanged despite all the talk of a return for Andrew Strauss, so Ed Joyce stays at the top while Sajid Mahmood keeps his place

    Sri Lanka 21/0 after 6...

Mahmood is starting to look like the new Paul Mooney.... 3 overs, none for 14...

He's taken the only two today too.

    Very conservative from SL...

164-3 the next few overs are crucial, if Sri Lanka get 250+ England may struggle however if they can limit them to under 220 or so I would fancy England to win.
Glen Mc Grath earler, and people wonder why he is so disliked arrogant little so and so
"I think we have played some awesome cricket and, to be honest, no team has really got close to us.

"The way England have been playing and the way we've been playing we should win this game pretty well."

Well thats proberly a fair assessment tbh.

    Mike.

194-5 Sri Lanka need a few runs quickly here or England will really fancy their chances.
Dilshan is the man gone by the way.

Silva just yorked by Flintoff to leave SL 215-6.

Not looking like a great total. Eng right in the game.

221-7 vaas gone, they can forget about 250 now. I fancy England to win with Collingwood top scoring.

So 236 needed. This could be v interesting and certainly not the walk in the park the Sky commentators are thinking it might be.

Joyce surely playing to save his carreer

We've written him off before (in the CB series) and proved us wrong once, can he do it again? One of the toughest bowling attacks is just ahead... this is the biggest test of his career.
