    Hi All,

I'm having a couple of problems with my VoIP set up and I would be greatful if anyone could help out. I have NTL broadband connected to a Linksys WRTP54G router. I have a Siemens eircom 4012 phone connected to this. I'm also using Freespeech. The problems are as follows:

    (a) every two days (give or take) it doesn't ring (as in no incoming calls they go straight to voicemail ) and if you call someone they can hear you but you can't hear them. This can be fixed by unplugging and replugging the router.
    (b) There is an echo on my end of the phone when having conversations. It's only on my end that you can hear it the person calling me doesn't hear it
    (c) How do you get your number to appear when you are calling someone?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Steedevaney

Try using smart076 for a while, see if it is more reliable for incoming calls. It's the best free one in my experience.

Usually your phone will be sending udp packets to the sip server on a regular basis. This tells the router that there is traffic still going on the connection, so it then accepts traffic coming from the sip server and sends it to your phone. What's likely happening in your case is that the router thinks the phone's connection is finished and then prevents allowing packets from the sip server getting through to your phone.

Our good friends at blueface (who I highly recommend by the way :) ) have this sticky on their forums http://forums.blueface.ie/showthread.php?t=338&highlight=port+forwarding. You'll need to find out which ports your phone is using in order to do this.
