Reducing salt intake and eating fish?

    Hi folks, I want to reduce my salt intake and I'm looking for ways to do this. This is part of a health and fitness regime I'm going onto. I'm joining the local gym on Monday and will hopefully start a fitness log here then.

    Now I know I should steer clear from breads and anything remotely processed (meats, cheeses, tinned soup, biccies etc.) but my main problem is with fish.

    I'm trying to increase the amount of fish in my diet.
    I eat Tuna and Salmon regularly and never add salt when cooking them. However, I also eat smoked mackerel and kippers and these are full of salt.

    Can anyone recommend some tasty fish I can try (from the supermarket*) that is as quick to cook as mackerel and kippers but has less salt? I generally use the microwave for cooking mackeral, kippers and salmon as this makes for quicker dinners.

    My reason for reducing salt is because there is a lot of CVD in my family history. I believe I know where most of the fat and sugar in my diet is and am working on reducing that.




    * I know I should go to a fishmonger but one step at a time ;)

    Cod or herring fillets only take about 8-10 minutes to steam. Or you can bake them with a little oil and herbs (put fish on tin foil, sprinkle with oil, add some herbs, wrap tin foil into parcel, bake for 15-20 minutes - yum).

    Cheers g'em, a fountain* of knowledge indeed! I might go for something other than Cod, what with the crisis over cod stocks etc :o but that's great advice. I've been reading Mrs. Doyles thread so once I get a gym workout from my own gym I might start a similar thread.

    In the meantime if anyone has any more 'fish' ideas, please let me know :)

    What temp in a fan oven is that at g'em and what oil do you use? Sounds good.
