Bad Science and Poor Law: the danger of confusing opinion and fact
Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2
    8:00pm Wednesday Apr 04, 2007

Legal decisions are based on evidence and "evidence" increasingly includes psychological or behavioural data. In this talk Dr Teresa Burke, Senior Lecturer, UCD School of Psychology, reflects on the inherent risks associated with poorly prepared and poorly presented "scientific evidence" in the context of legal proceedings, both civil and criminal. She argues that failure to adopt a true scientific approach to evidence contributes to miscarriage of justice.
