South Africa V Sri Lanka should be a cracker of a game. V hard to predict, but Im goin for South Africa on this one.

Can the Windies chase down the Aussie target? I dont think so.....

    Game on!

    Thoughts?

    Updates here later...

I strongly fancy SL to win this. Team of the tournament so far.

If Hayden can mow down the SA bowling single handedly really, then Jayasuriya, Tharanga and Jayawardene as a collective can wither any bowling attack.

Batting you way out of trouble will only get you so far.

The resumption of the Aussie-WI game... as I said in the other thread, the toss has been nulled, in effect. Still think that the first 10 overs or so of Chanderpaul and Gayle are crucial, more so now they have to chase over 300. If they go cheaply, I can only see one winner.

not a cat in hells chance the WI will reach that target, the other game will be too close to call.wonder what the weather situation is over there?

Nah, we dont know what the wickets like, both the SA and Aussie bowlers got smacked around on that wicket..

Both those bowling attacks didn't look up to scratch, and thats an indictment of both teams that day. Both teams can go for a few.

True, we don't know what the wicket will be like, but on the paper, the teams that should turn out today, I feel that SL are the better equipped.

I really hope that Graeme and the boys make you eat those words :p

Gayle looks totally out of nick. Just skied one, gone for 2. Sluggish start from the west indies. Little hope for them now really.

16-2 after 8. McGrath starts with a wicket maiden.

    Munch, munch, munch.... :D

Sri Lanka 84/3 after 19 overs.

    Tharanga c Kemp b Ntini 12
    Jayasuriya c Kallis b Langeveldt 26
    Jayawardene c de Villiers b Langeveldt 12

Going by the toss, its supposed to be a spinners pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Lara playing some nice shots here but the windies are still miles behind the asking rate.

    76-3 after 22 needing over 9/over

Sri lanka stuttering also on 90-4 with their big guns out.

:D Spinners will only cause a problem to SA if they are chasing a massive total or of it is a Sydney-like pitch. They should be ok chasing anything under 280./

    SL 98/5 in the 25th.

    Gibbs ran out Silva.

That run out was funny ^^. If we can bowl them out for 200 odd this should be an easy enough game.

I have 2 tabs open of the Cricinfo scorecards in Firefox, and both games are showing as 129/5, the only difference is the amount of overs!

The thought of Gibbs with a world cup medal
    Come on Sri Lanka!!

    SL 208-9

3 wickets and maiden in the 49th over from Langerfeld

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Triple-wicket maiden or is there such thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Run out Murali!

    SL 209 all out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭Marshy

Very sloppy from murali there, lazy running. Looking good for SA now it must be said. They'd expect to chase 210.

    Nice homage to Jonty :D

Edit: Just watching the highlights now... Sril Lanka were really battered in the crucial final 5 overs. Not that they were doing too well before that.

I just seen steve bucknor avoid being hit with a ball from a pull shot.

He was on his toes and moved quickly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,240 ✭✭✭Endurance Man

Lol at those last five overs, shoulda realised they wheren't gonna hit sixes on that field and just gone for the singles and maybe a few fours.
SA know what the fields like now so hopefully they wont try and go big, just nice and easy boys :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,987 ✭✭✭Trampas

    Malinga action looks very weird.

It seems like his arm is going from 7-8 to 1-2 to o'clock instead of 6-12

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Its no surprise he's called Malinga the Slinga!

    SA 30/1 off 7 overs
AB DeVilliers fell in the first over to Vaas.

Waqar Younis used to sling it a bit too, but Malinga makes him look orthodox :D

AB went to an absolutely deadly late-inswinger. Things are still looking good for us as the swing starts to calm down.

Edit: Smith and Kallis cruising at a run a ball. 85/1 partnership of 84 from 84

At 91-1 after 16 overs now, this should be over in around 40 overs if nothing drastic happens. Kinda boring really..

Haha, guess its good that they get an easy win but from a spectators point a view a close race is always more enjoyable to watch. I refer back to the great Lance Klusner :D, watching that man when SA where in a tight spot was absolute entertainment.

No bother, we're flying now, glad they arent taking the spinners on, the field is very big. No idea what the SriLanka captain is doing, spinners up and 5 outside the circle  .

    Sniff, sniff.....

Murali gets two in two balls... Gibbs and Boucher...

    160/4

Hat trick ball... padded catch... not out. Correct decision.

Come on now, crumbs, finish it!

Game drifting towards an ineveitable SA victory. Jacques looks in good form as does smith, augurs well for them.

Malinga hat trick. Kallis gone. 3 runs or 2 wickets???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

Damn... how did that last ball miss the stump?

Come on Langers... tell me you were Donald Bradman in a former life...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Has anyone ever taken 4 wickets in 4 balls before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

And the game goes to SA! My poor heart!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

What an incredible finish. I'd say well done to South Africa but it doesn't really seem appropriate.

Agreed. They took the foot off the gas at the end. Kallis let the pressure of the moment get to his head instead of playing the ball on its merit.

F"k sakes, that was to much for me, if i was 20yrs older i probably woulda had a heart attack. Why does SA always bloody do this!!
