Yeah that map is a well balanced one alright, for instance:

"Escorting food shipments thru Royal and Grand Canals to Dublin for export; 17th 32nd, 45th, 66th, 13th Dragoons (whence the term goons)"

Eh, no.....thats not why Dragoons as so called.

"Carbine toting British Constabularly and Militia"

    :D  .....funny.

I personally dont like that site, its kicking up a lot of resentment and hatred for an event which is long in the past...

    "Irishmen and Irishwomen!
Read this site and weep. Weep for the agonies and deaths of your people at the hands of genocidists. The authorities who imposed the curriculum, the teachers and professors who funneled it into you, have carefully kept you uninformed as to which British regiment, or that any regiment, murdered your people. Until now, that information was kept from you. You had no access to it. You do now - you read it on your computer screen! Commit the regiment's name to memory.

    Never, ever, forget it!
Learn its British HQ town. As no Jewish person would ever refer to the "Jewish Oxygen Famine of 1939 - 1945", so no Irish person ought ever refer to the Irish Holocaust as a famine."

What are we supposed to do? Track down the relatives of British soldiers during the famine and kill them or something??

    Nuff said.....

Why? Is that what the majority of Jews who chose to remember the Holocaust do, track down the relatives of Nazis and kill them?

Or do they respectfully remember their past in an effort to make sure it is never repeated again?

I thought as a Nation we were supposed to have matured, at least to the point where we could acknowledge and remember all the events of our past.

That was his whole point. Highlighting the absurdity of that websites views on the famine. Maybe you need to tone down the negatively, seriously. You're finding non-existant serious points in light hearted comments.

Excuse me, but I don't think I was the one who embarked on the Straw Man Tactics in the first place. That's where the real "negativity" in this thread lies.

Darn, so my sarcastic tone wasnt conveyed over the internet . As pointed out by HavoK (thank you) I was merely pointing out the absurity of that website and the fact that we have (or at least should) be a little bit more mature about it then 'naming and shaming' regiments/people who now....are totally unconnected with the famine now.

    Chill guys......

Those are the irish who out of fear bowed their heads and accepted english rule in ireland. Their political and cultural focus was on London. For them all truth, justice and cultural sophistication emerged, immaculate, from the collective bejewelled arseholes of the british monarchy and their followers. They collabarated with the enemy to save their own skins. Apologists for british rule in ireland, their descendents are all around. "Oh yes massa, god made you do it. praaaaise de lawd.

You know slavery in the Southern US was more recent?

Very interesting stuff! You'll find many people here trying to defend the British Governments actions during the famine, citing lazy irish men, or saying things like "its not as if they took the food from the starving Irish". These are completely disingenuous points of view. This map highlights the hypocrisy of the British Govt, and actually it is like they took food from the starving Irish. People mightn't like to hear it; but the reality is that the Brit Govt were complicit in the deaths of many Irish people during this period. It's important that the truth be told, even though we mighn't like what it is!

We know what happened, many thousands died, many more left the country as a result of the famine. The British may not have orchestrated the famine, but they didnt exactly help either.

What more is there to say? It happened, the time has passed, we cant exactly bring the British goverment to trial over it.

Learn from it, dont use it as an excuse for bitterness or resentment.

Whos using it as an excuse for bitterness and resentment? I'm just pointing out the reality of the situation that happened.

I'm not suggesting that we bring the British Govt to trial. I just want to put an end to some of the bs theories that have been floating around here.

I think its a very positive thing that the UK and Ireland enjoy a good relationship at the moment, and that theres new found peace in the North. Good to see Bertie addressing Westminister yesterday. Also I have plenty of respect for Blair, especially for having the decency to apologize to Ireland for Britains part in the famine at the start of his term in office. Gestures like that certainly go a long way to building bridges. Long may the good relationship between the 2 countries continue!

But the truth has been told. There is no denying the facts and I don't see anyone arguing about those.

The arguement was about Genocide which is an arguement that will run and run, usually raised more out of hatred for Britain than out of any form of compassion for those that died.

Theres a lot of people who believe the deaths of many Irishmen were due to genocide brought about by Britains policy, theres more who argue no it was purely potato blight, and the deaths werent in any way attributable to Britains policy. Saying that people who agree with the former do so purely out of hatred for Britain is ridiculous. Any right minded person has nothing but compassion for the unfortunate people who died and suffered during An Gorta Mor. I just don't see why people should try and brush the truth under the carpet!

    I love it indeed! :D

First denying any wrongdoing by Britain, then admitting to it, then implying someones a racist who hates Britain for just pointing out the truth of what happened. Keeps me entertained anyway :D
