I would hope most people do not take drugs and it only seems that way!
I do not smoke anything and never will... though i have tried it in a brownie but nothing happened.
Anyway the question was about smoking and since i have not then i say no. :D

I imagine there is a vast multitude of people who don't do lots of things, puffin' the 'erb being one of them. I know plenty of people who don't smoke.

I don't smoke anything but I've tried it in yoghurts a couple of times but can't say I particularly enjoyed it.. Just ended up raiding the fridge :o  I'm with Max Damage , a few nice glasses of wine would be more up my street...

    I don't, I prefer alcohol instead. :D

well not everybody but i'd bet that at least 75% of fellas over the age of 17 in any urban area in the country would be at very least a casual smoker. it doesnt seem to be so popular in the country though.

i'm kinda interested too as to who in places like dublin would be smoking it. I've recently developed a theory that it is now used for stress relief by professionals and people who its not really associated with thats why it would be cool if the people who do smoke it could say what they do for a living (if they do 'do' anything of course!)

    I don't smoke it.

I've tried it, but didn't like it.

I was at a party on Saturday night. and only myself and one other person weren't smoking.

So you use psychoactive drugs then. You wouldnt think it from your wild anti-drug ravings on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,190 ✭✭✭✭seamus

I've tried it in the past. Doesn't do a whole lot for me, except maybe make me hungry. When it's mixed with tobacco, I end up just getting a light head from the tobacco. If it's mixed with tobacco and I've been drinking, it just makes me feel sick.

I would say that 9 out of ten of the people I know would be in the "Tried it, don't smoke it" category.

Regular, or even casual (> once a month) smokers would be in the extreme minority in this country.

any1 who does shud get a mandatory 25 year jail term

Yeah OP, I reckon u are right. Most do. But paranoia will prevent most people from mentioning it!

    Never have and never will.

Just last week I was stopped by two young American girls, I suspect that they were here with a marching band for St. Patrick's Day, and asked if i had or could get some for them. I am not Irish but I have lived here for 20+ years and I'm always being asked if I have anything. It really pisses me off!!

Twenty five years to life for text speak.

    That'll teach them.

If you smoke its more than likely that your immediate group of friends will smoke two and skew your view on how many people actually smoke.

I smoke the plant not the solid ;)

Reminds me of last year when a group of spanish students asked me if I could get them some. I told them to find anyone wearing a fluorescent green jacket with Garda on the back and ask them! But yeah, I smoke and don't see anything wrong with it. If anyone read the recent report done into drugs, cannabis ranks lower than alcohol and tobacco on the danger list.

Final Note: People who say there should be mandatory sentences of 25 years for anyone who touches drugs should be locked away themselves. Its idiotic moral high ground thinking at its worst.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

    I don't.
Of people I know it would seem users (of the drug not members of boards ;) ) are in a minority, but people who have used it are in a majority.

Years ago when I was in my first year at college I tried to smoke some hash but I don't think I did it properly as it did nothing for me and I've never tried it or any other drug since. I occasionally drink a glass of wine but very rarely.

i always find it funny that in this country you get minimum wage for serving alcohol and jail for selling hash, while the standards of any hash in this country is generally far far less potent than a lager shandy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭JayRoc

I don't smoke it. Never have.
But I'm one of the only people out of pretty much all of my various social circles that doesn't.

From reading this thread you'd think no-one in Ireland smokes- but I'd guess that's 'cos all the stoners couldn't be bothered posting :D

In my experience I'd say the vast majority of 18-30 year old urbanites do, at least on occasion.

I smoked it a bit when I was about 15 but tbh I only did it because it was a bad thing to do and I never got anything out of it. I havent done it since and wouldnt even be tempted. Give me and ice cold beer any day.

By the way I have a huge group of friends and very few of them smoke it and quite a few have never even tried it. Its total bollox saying that most people between 18-30 smoke it. Thats just people who smoke trying to make themselves feel better.

I have never smoked it, am probably the only one of my friends who hasn't even tried it. Im 23 so have already gone through most of my experimentation phases and dont think ill be trying it any time soon. A few glasses of vino suits me just fine......

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

Never tried it, why would you bother - it's a waste of money and can get you into serious trouble.

I'm an urbanite and have never taken any illegal drug, or even smoked a cig.

Alcohol and caffeine are my only regulars.

    Soap bar Vs Shandy
    http://www.ukcia.org/activism/soapbar.htm

    Its not about the strength.

And i firmly believe you should go to jail for selling it. It promotes criminality and its the only point i ever agreed with McDool on.

If you are going to smoke grow your own weed and dont support criminal gangs

Same as meself. I've lost count how mant times, Iv'e been asked if I have any 'smoke'. Just last week a man who must have been at least 50 approached me. I cut my hair to avoid lookin like a hippy and now I must look like a dealer!

To answer the OP, yes I have tried it, and had some brilliant nights on it in the past. Haven't touched it in a long time and have no desire to either. Not sure why, probably the hassle of obtaining it.

On that point of criminality, i think its safe to say that your backing up what i'm saying. i mean it wouldnt promote criminality if it was legalised unless of course the government charged outrages taxes on it (as they probably would, making it unnafordable). Do you think alcohol would not promote criminality if it were illegal?
im not saying that hash is good im just saying that lowgrade hash is a LOT less dangerous than alcohol.
also to draw a parallel to soap bar: http://www.thesource.gov.au/drinkspiking/things_you_should_know.htm

If, perhaps. But it isn't legal though, it does support criminality.

I'm the same, just never had any really interest. I have asthma and have never had a desire to smoke anything. Bit curious bout hash brownies though... so maybe one day I'll try them out.

Actually I want to change my last comment, instead of 25 years I think all drug users whether theyre moderate social drug users or heroin addicts on the street, should be given lethal injection after serving a 10 year sentence in mountjoy.

    thatll learn them for sure.
