Trinity and Kings Inns meet up?

I was wandering around town trying desperately to get away from the hordes on Paddy's day and ended up in Trinity college. I had never been around most of the corners there, usually walking through from Nassau st to the main gate. I'd never realised how beautiful a place it is, and had my eye on all the shots i was missing. I'm not sure if its a place thats been done countless times but I'd love to shoot it.

I've also had an eye on the Kings Inns complex up around phibsboro road for a while now. As far as I know its Dublin City Council grounds and therefore fair game, but I've just emailed them to ask what the story is with photography and maybe an indoor tour.

Would anyone be interested in meeting up?

Sounds good to me. When are you thinking? As long as it's not the first week in April as I won't be here.

Kings Inns is definitly fair game. I did my college practicals there from Botlon Street (Land Surveying). Must have made about a 100 maps of the place. The buildings are used by the Land Registry or Registry of Deeds so I thing an indoor tour wouldn't be possible. There is alot to see on the other side of the park on Henrietta Street. It's got a really old Dublin feel, the buildings are run down, almost derelict for years. Kings Inns has the almost infamous bench that the tree has grown over and started to consume too ( I actually stopped in there to look at it yesterday!)
I'd be on for meeting up sometime. Just let me know when and where!

    Pete.

    Bench eating trees???

I was thinking - is Trinity too much of a hoof from Kings Inns? Maybe we should shoot somewhere more local. Smithfield? Botanic Gardens again?

I heard back from Kings Inns and yep indoor has restrictions due to copyright but outside is grand. The email said grounds are open 7 to 7 weekdays. I'm thinking she meant 7 days? I'll check this weekend though to make sure its open Sat and Sunday.

Ok I was thinking weekend of 21st - 22nd April, just to save confusion.

    Bench-eating tree.. http://flickr.com/photos/pandas/147184026/ I didn't even know about that.

And there's a really nice transylvanian restaurant off Henrietta Place, if lunch should be in order ;) Henrietta Street is beautiful too.

I study in Trinity so I could make it, quite a few deadlines at the moment so I'll see how things are closer to the date.

I LOVE having free company car!!! :-P

Ahem.. you do know its always bloody freezing up there Thonda?

Yep I'm still on. Probably be after noon for me too. I want a lie in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

    bump...

So who's going? What time do people want to meet at? Where?

My CRT monitor died today (and my kitchen waste pipe burst and flooded everywhere and the window sill in the sitting room broke.. help!) and I have to go collect another one so I might be a little late on Saturday. Not sure yet.

1:30-2pm sounds good actually. Does everyone have at least one contact number? pm me if you want mine. Do we have a final roll-call?

Here's a map... do we want to meet up there, at the gates or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

2 should be perfect for me :) A pint in Bodkins if I'm early!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

    I will be there.

If you see me there, I'll be there, but can't promise anything.

If anyone is free on Sunday, from 2-5, I'm part of a collaborative installation piece in Hotel Ballymun though.

You're part of the piece? So do you have to stand still for ages? Ah I crack myself up...

What are you putting in Al - those shots you took a while back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Yep, those, with some fancy interactive Isadora work so they'll react with sound in the room, bringing other images from the flats, and a play called TumbleDownTown into them.

It's from myself, another media artist and a painter.

It's all part of a youth art group in Ballymun. And yes. I have to stand there for ages :p

I'm staying at the gf's this eve, so wont have internet access after 5 today.

Elven, I've pm'd you my mobile in case there is a sudden change of plan (i.e. rain? NOT!)

I'll probably be earlyish myself so where is this Bodkins Sinead speaks of?

I cant make it for 1:30 as I will be playing football but if you all end up in the pub later I might be able to head along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Did you actually say "IF" we end up in the pub...?

    Heh, indeed. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 640 ✭✭✭CraggyIslander

wahey, the working day is nearly over :D

See you all there tomorrow and finally get some faces to the names :p

I'm assuming we're meeting at the main gates at 2pm?

As I only have another 45minutes of internet access may I kindly ask Elven to txt me if the time / initial meet up place changes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Are we meeting at Trinity or the Kings Inn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

No problem... I'll let you know as appropriate :)

    Darren, Kings Inn...

Where might we take a wander to afterwards, if the light/weather allows? I'm considering leaving the car at home in favour of a visit to the pub... maybe we could head down to the city centre and trinity, if we get that far?

Sounds good, because I ran out of colour films, so some work and documentary BW photo looks great for lazy sunday afternoon.

I'll let you know if I am available.

Al's thing is Sunday Morlar :) I won't make it - have to go to the beach with the rugrats.

I have a night of free beer ahead of me, so will probably be very hungover tomorrow. Oh dear.

Trinity Meet is on Saturday and Hotel Balymum is on Sunday.
Tomorrow at two and on Sunday when I wake up.
    Is that correct?
