No forced entery into his hotel room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,567 ✭✭✭delta_bravo

Press statement reports no sign of forced entry so the murderer may well have been known to him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,800 ✭✭✭county

could be more than one murderer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Oh dear, we were kind of expecting i suppose..

    Utterly shocking stuff.

Might even bring the competition in to some doubt..

The Irish Players themselves must be feeling abit uneasy at this time moreso than we are:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Well that just means he was'nt expecting danger or his door was'nt locked.

    Mike.

What was that *unconfirmed* bit about the two versions (police and Pakistan official) about the time of the morning they found Woolmer? Police (or Hotel, not sure) said 8:00 in the morning, and team officials versions was like 10:45 or something? Remember reading that in BBC website last night.

Well, Pakistan team is in a really bad situation there. From an investigation point of view, any one of them could have done it. They had the motive (stress, frustration, about how Woolmer planned to write about his years coaching Pakistan team, and may be him bringing some match-fixing / other scandals out), and the opportunity (same hotel, not strangers etc).

I am not suggesting one of them did it or anything - but its easy to see that some line of investigation would go in that direction too. It could be that someone else planned it exactly for that night seeing its easy to frame Pakistan team for it! Okay, I am getting too far into the whole 'conspiracy theory' business - sh*te, I need sleep!

bl**dy hell, Cricket is only a game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Well they want to find some evidence..

The liklyhood is the person who murdered him knew him, no better way to test 20 people who knew him then bring a camera airing to the world and film them ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,800 ✭✭✭county

ex met commissioner to assist the the investigation

Yep, pretty much non stop coverage related to match fixing, having watched the game in full now, I dont believe it for a second

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

i dunno if i can post it her, so i better not. Buts its not the irish game that is being considered to be fixed. It wouldnt make sense.

This new development is most troubling, but considering all the speculation it is also hardly surprising.:(

    http://www.ndtv.com/ndtvcricket/showstory.aspx?id=21675&site=ndtv

...the startling update that the police have already made an arrest in the case...

...The nationality of this person has not been revealed but the channel claims the person is not a Jamaican...

...The report suggests that the person spoke on his cellphone to the team members of not only Pakistan but also Sri Lankan and Indian cricket teams...

...Tim Noakes, who was one of the co-authors, said the manuscript did not touch on match-fixing. He said there was no truth in the story because nobody could have known what was in the book...

...Pegasus Hotel, where the Pakistani cricket team and Woolmer were staying, needs punch-in cards to access rooms, suggesting that someone known to the team and the coach could have accessed the room...

...Meanwhile, NDTV spoke to Pakistan team member Danish Kaneria, who was staying in the room next to Woolmer in the hotel.

He's the only Pakistani player to speak to the media about the murder.

"I did not hear any noises coming out of Woolmer's room," he said..

    Stunning news. :(

Cricket has been severely damaged by this.

Many people will point to match fixing, but I still am of the belief that the Ireland game was not a fix.

If he was killed in relation to betting, in this case they didn't want Pakistan to lose against Ireland. It would be down to lost monies through the Super 8's where the biggest games are.

The only source for that bit of the news is 'CEO of Geo TV', Hamid Mir. Apparently, they do have a number of people reporting the world cup, and normally a credible news source!

Im in absolute shock over this; Straight after the death on here someone said

I had never really considered it at the time but prayed over the last few days that foul play would be ruled out but the burning effigies of the players over there and the extremism of some individuals over there.

    Complete shock tbh

Hardly likely though considering that the 1972 Olympic Games continued as normal despite the hostage situation and subsequent murders.

People are saying on here that is was the Ireland game that Pakistan threw but I was reading the other day comments from Sarfraz Nawaz saying that it was more likely the Windies game that was dodgy as they would expect to beat Ireland and Zim comfortably which does make sense. The tournament structure and the lack of strength as you get further down the order of countries means the Super 8 is almost - note the almost, a foregone conclusion. So apart from the points you carry through their is not much to play for and maybe the 2 points are worth a few quid.

Why?That would be stupid!I doubt the murderer will ever be caught, they are probally on the other side of the world by now.

    mod edit

Cricket was Bob's life and passion. I'd say that he would want the WC to go on... just my opinion.

Yes, but there would have been much more attractive odds on an Ireland win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,065 ✭✭✭✭Wishbone Ash

Pakistan team have requested to go home today, instead of their scheduled flight tomorrow, to "be with their families".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

Yes, but there would have been much more attractive odds on an Ireland win.
The odds on Ireland would've been very attactive, but why would a dodgy bookie and a dodgy player(s) bet on Pakistan going out of the tournament, when they can have more games to bet on later, when they would've got through to the Super 8's?

Off topic but Sky breaking news that Inzy & Mushtaq Ahmed face further police questioning over Bob Woolmers murder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

I believe Inzy and Mushtaq have now been allowed home

A rumour I heard was re the Windies match where Danish Kaneira (I think) threw 4 overthrows to the wicketkeeper, giving runs to WI. Not close overthrows either. Coincidence or not?
