    HUUUUUUGE Day

Basically its Ireland's first game of the next round as the winner will carry 2 points into the Super 8's. Also of the full members its a game Ireland 'could' possibly win. Interesting to see if TJ and Rankin play.

The other game is massive as well If Sri Lanka win it will all but knock out India.

    Thoughts?

    Updates here tomorrow

It's going to be a tough ask, but the West Indies have been known to collapse if put under the right amount of pressure.

If Ireland can bring their 'A' game like they did against Pakistan they could just edge it.

    Here's hoping and dreaming :D

I would tend to think let TJ rest. That shoulder injury, if he plays tomorrow, if it gets worse would rule him out of the rest of the tournament. If he rests tomorrow, then he has another week of rest.

Rankin, well... try a Mooney! :D Its worth cradling injured players at this stage, use the squad.

As for a small game between Sri Lanka and India.... India are going home. If Jayasuriya plays, and Vaas and The Slinger get to bowl first... there is gonna be a whole lot of ad revenue lost from the sub-continent!

Indian fan myself, but thats how it looks sadly! Sri Lankan batting line up is fabulous, but on a good day, Indians can match or on a very good day, do ever better. However, the doing 50 overs against the likes of Jayasuriya, is going to give Indian bowlers many sleepless nights, especially the spinners - for instance, Kumble couldn't take a single wicket against SL in last 4 matches, according to cricinfo!

Had Bangladesh played against Sri Lanka half as well as they did against India, I wouldn't have felt too bad if they were to get onto Super8, knocking out India in the process. But not after that abysmal performance - if they are in Super8, so should Canada, for scoring 250 against NZ today!

Just a thought, will the games be played after the news this evening?

    Mike.

    Yes, yes they will.

I'd hate to see India go out. You gotta love the underdog but having Ireland is enough for the super 8's. Would be a terrible shame to see both Pakistan and India out before the tournament proper actually begins.

I cant see how irish players will be in a fit state to play tomorrow.

It has been a rollercoaster for the Irish team, no doubt, but don't forget, the Windies team are in the same hotel too.

Trent is definitely not playing, i have that on good account from a member of the squad, although no decision had been made yet on Boyd Rankin

spirits are very high within the team (understandably) despite all of the goings in Jamaica and the team are very confident about another win over the West Indies!

If we can beat them i've had a very nice bet on them to win the group @ 250/1 and i'll be drinking the whole way to the west indies!!

come on you boys in green!!!

    Fully agree with this, thoughts run back to the last RWC to finish out the group we played a big last game and should have been focusing on the next ame against the aussies;

We are through, celebrate, but rest the injured players and let the rest of the team do the damage

Big match starts off with huge drama, India own the toss and put SL to bat - advantage India! :D

India starts bowling - well, advantage SL then! :D 10 runs of the first over (mostly byes).

    Sri Lanka 32/0 (6.3 ov)

Oh wait, Sri Lanka 33/1 (7.0 ov) - huge wicket!! Jayasuriya!!

Everything's a bit streaky at the minute. Not many runs coming from decent shots.

Thats a decent enough start. Lets hope we can keep it going.

Great start, game on again.........this really is a decent side.
    Potterfield again dissapointin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭Peter B

Commentators have found Bray out. He can only cope with balls coming down the off-side. Struggling with anything which comes down middle or leg.

    38-1 after 8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

West Indies trying to pack the onside field now and bowl straight... wayward ball and Bray hits it for 4.

A couple of times now West Indies have appealed like they were convinced it was out when I could even tell from the tv there was no edge even without the replays.

Struggling to get runs in the last few overs.

    60-1 at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭larsson7

Slowing down but no loss of wicket since which will allow us to really go for it later, still going well imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭Peter B

Morgan caught. Fast bowl, caught the edge of his bat as he was trying to play it to the on side. Ball goes very high, wicket keeper sprints back and catches near boundry.

    61-2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Morgan never looked comfortable the whole time he was out there. Bray had a few hairy moments but at least he was scoring at a decent rate.
