I'm looking for a reasonably priced sports watch nothing fancy just large digital face, light and lap times would be good. Any suggestions? Tried argos and lots of sports shops in Dublin and no luck so far.

I'm very very fond of Polar watches and HRM's. I have 3 of them! They are pricey but you get what you pay for IMO. I know loads of people who use timex watches and have never had problems.

I have a timex ironman watch which i got in Argos. Very good. Lots of functions and has a 50 lap memory on it as well which I use for swimming/running.

The strap did fall off only after 7 months...

Timex ironman here too, mine is going strong after a couple of years and does all the stuff you stated.

However, I question its waterproofness in case you are planning to use it for swimming. Mine seems to have some droplets of water in it, though it is working.

Having said that it's been out in surf a fair bit and I may have brought it scuba diving a time or two as well, although certainly not to 100m which is the stated depth to which it's supposed to be water resistant. Whatever 'resistant' means...

Thanks for the replies I was looking at the timex watches online but not having much luck finding anywhere that delivers to Ireland. Where did you guys get them?

Oh and I need it for running so waterproof isn't really a concern!

My friend has an ironman one but he actually bought it at an ironman expo. That's preobably a bit extreme just to buy a watch.

I've bought stuff from sweatshop a few times

I'm interested in getting a watch with a heart rate monitor. I don't fancy wearing a chest strap though. Anyone know if you can get a watch that will read pulse/hr from your wrist and not need a chest strap thing?
