    hiya,

    I'm new here..

I used to be exceptionally fit (used to row) and was in pretty good shape.
However time, laziness and Eddie Rockets has taken its toll and I'm now totally sick of the reflection in the mirror.

Would anyone where I can running in Dublin?
Aleternatively, are there any good cycle routes around the place? I'm based in the city centre and gave up the bike after one close call too many.. but there must be some good routes in the Dublin area

I do use the gym (erg, bikes) a bit but hate being indoors all the time and am finding that its much harder to work out alone then it was when with a team

    Anyone got any ideas?

if you are in the city centre it wouldn't be hard to get to the phoenix park or perhaps out to clontarf.

Clontarf has a great cycle path along the seawall and bull island is pretty nice for a jog.

I was about to suggest both of those places too!

I'm sure you could put together quite a challenging course in St Annes Park too as you progress.

Cheers - will look into both of those..

For getting back into it, anyone any ideas about what to do exactly?

I was always under the impression that any fitness for under half an hour was pointless for weight loss, so I was planning to start on a couple of easy workout (erg / bike) session for 30-40mins and just build on up from there.

    Is that correct?

IMO the best thing to do is go out and do your best first time, really put it in, time how long it takes you to do a route around the park. Then the next day you go out try to equal/beat that time or go further instead. Trust me, it won't be long until you build it up and are quicker andcan go for longer

I work in the city center and go out running regularly during lunch breaks.

There are 3 routes I usually go:
    - Trinity college. There's a track that opens during the spring/summer (don't think it's open yet but will be soon). It's really close to work and means I'm running on grass. 0.25 mile per lap, or 0.3 about if you go on the outside.
    - Ringsend park. About a mile away for me, so a mix of concrete/grass surface running, but it's much bigger than the Trinity track and thus less monotonous. 0.65 mile per lap the way I run it (staying on the grass).
    - Herbert park. Again about a mile away from me, but in a busier part of town. The road separates two parts of the park, but you can do the long laps by crossing over. This brings it to about 1 mile per lap.

Another nice run which I don't do very often is into Irishtown, around the nature reserve there. It needs to be dry for this as the ground is very soggy and on a wet day it's pretty miserable, loosing your footing all the time.
