And I have to say, even though Ive been goin on rants saying its a letdown, i completely agree with my original opinion!

Wasnt wowed by it at ALL!

Was actually more wowed by the free beer and pizza at the course

Anyways, I played F1, Resistance, Genji 2 and Motorstorm, neither of which were anything amazing

the graphics seem to just look shinier, everything! the ground, faces, cars! The biggest shock was the ground on Motorstorm, it was supposed to be gravel, but it was flat and shiny!

Think I also spotted a glitch in it too

Tilt - crap! Was WAY to sensitive and wasnt even on F1

Resistance just reminded me of Halo 2, graphics wise too! And its only 2 players on Co-op play

The controllers felt rediculously light, and they seem to get knocked out of Sync easily when switchin between one or multiplayer games

All in all I was highly unimpressed - By the games and the unit itself.

    Positive notes:

    Load times were very fast

Eject button is kinda cool, its touchscreen

thats abt it. Looks horrible too!

    This was some sony event?

You're entitled to your opinions obviously, but what you're saying goes against a lot of what journalists I normally trust are saying (eurogamer, 1up, kotaku, edge, etc). Guess I'll see for myself anyway. Anybody know if there'll be demo kiosks before launch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

Well I work in a shop that sells them so we get these "training" courses for most console releases

it was basically a run through the features, then played it for an hour, and free pizza and beer!

Very few shops are gettin kiosks, but my shop is, cos im deadly

Yeah, I should have thrown in a few IMOs there!

Its pretty much a marmite machine, you'll either love it or hate it, or neither like myself

    cheers

People either love or hate marmite. Same goes for the ps3. And the wii generally I think as well.

Yes they either love it or hate it... do the neither like himself?

I guess he's the exception to the rule :) he doesn't love it or hate it!

Anyways, I played F1, Resistance, Genji 2 and Motorstorm, neither of which were anything amazing

The graphics on those games are supposed to be amazing - some of the best graphics ever seen on a screen! What sort of tv were they using?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,856 ✭✭✭Clover

played it myself today as there are demo pod's in game ilac centre , hmv henry and smyths jervis street.

they only have motorstorm and f1 to play but after playing both i'm now going to buy f1 instead of motorstorm , graphics wise they where ok nothing to make your jaw drop especially if you have played the 360 , as you would be well use to them.

the controller is light and will be even lighter as it has extra weight on the demo pod's.

all in all i'm still looking forward to picking one up.

Glanced at F1 on the demo pod in Game Dawson St this afternoon, wasn't that impressed really.

Anyways, I played F1, Resistance, Genji 2 and Motorstorm, neither of which were anything amazing

Only played the F1 and Genji Demos that were downloaded from the PS Store..............both are incredibly average, never been impressed by any F1 game (like the real thing) so it never stood a chance for me. Some F1 fans have said its pretty good despite some print reviews going from 4-6 out of 10. No thanks.
Genji is meh, typical dynasty warriors I suppose, so some may like it.....camera is awful though. Neither of them are worth buying IMO..
Maybe the full games have changed from the demo.....but I doubt it.

Resistance is excellent......no sure what the demo is, but the game only gets better as it gets on....massive game by the way (FPS speaking). Not sure what to make of people saying the graphics aren't good ? They may have a slightly PC look to them on early levels, but the detail, amount of things going on, draw distance etc etc all maintained at a solid 30fps in the later levels are excellent.
The game does nothing revolutionary but I'd have hard time believing that an FPS fan didn't enjoy it if he goes out and picks it up..

Motorstorm....another excellent game if a little limited. Bought the Jap version before Christmas, but had a few goes of the US multiplayer version. Racing/offroad fans won't be disappointed with this. Some of the best graphics on any next-gen system and really fun to play.
Haven't seen the demo pods over here, but if they contain the same demo that was being used in the US demo pods.....its not very indicative of the final product. That version had frame-rate/speed issues which the final product does not. The graphics are easily the equal (if not more so) of any 360 racer and surpass many 2nd gen titles on that machine.
I think if people aren't impressed with the game in that sense, they're placing their 360s on an imaginary pedestal (if it was on the 360, I'm sure more people would be saying how well it looks).....it is an excellent looking game and a good first effort from Evolution on the PS3

You would swear the ppl who are developing ps3 games got their development kits 6 months ago the way the sony defence force try and defend them.

So sonys machine is uninspiring, well there's a shock, I mean, who saw that coming?
Roll on Project Gotham Racing 4, PGR, now thats what I call racing!

    :confused::confused::confused:
If this was aimed at me (not sure).......its got nothing to do with defending the PS3, its got to do with defending good games regardless of system..
People who look on this thread are obviously here because they are either considering/are buying a PS3 or are here because of their own insecurity with their own system..
Let it go.....I'm offering a different viewpoint on games which I have played since launch in a context which most people will understand. Both Resistance and Motorstorm are fine games, and both would be fine games on the 360 even a year after launch..

I'm actually convinced all the X-Box 360 owners are more active in this forum now.

I think everyone has gotten tired of bothering debating all of this with them, I haven't seen a post by ProjectMayhem or Steviec in here yet, and if it's why I think it is then it's the same reason I didn't post here until now.

    Anyway....***Ducks for cover**

Well imo I think a lot of people are trying out the PS3 wanting to hate it so all the criticism they've levelled at it so far will be justified in their eyes. It's like if you're forced to go out by friends, and you say "I'll go, but I won't have a good time," and then you'll end up going out of your way to not have a good time. I'm completely reserving judgement until I pick mine up on Thursday. I couldn't give a monkeys what system other people have or think is better, I'll be a happy chappy with my PS3.

Was this not the same reaction when the Xbox came out first???
Look how big it is. Who fooking cares how big it is, its still only marginally bigger than the 360.
Let the games do the talking. And if someone calls me a "fanboy" , i'll hunt em down :D

I have to say, bashing a console simply due to one having some difference of principles with the manufacturer is possibly the dumbest thing a gamer can do, worse than fanboys by far.
I don't want a PS3 right now, I can promise you however that within 12 months, maybe less, there will be a string of games that make me buy the console.
It has to be said again, a gamer, a true gamer should be console neutral, not buying a console simply because its a Sony, or not buy one because its a Nintendo. No, if you have played Wario Ware and loved it, buy a Wii or DS, if you played Motorstorm and can't do without, by a PS3, if Lost Planet was your bag, grab a 360. Thats it. At the mo there is nothing on the PS3 i can't live without, nothing yet.
It must be said though, it is the 1st major console launch in the last 10 years that I haven't been first in the queue for, which fills me with a certain amount of sadness.
But there you go, the price really isn't that much of a barrier, if I really had to have one I'd have found the money, no its just down to the line up really.
Another thing is that I thought Sony did a marvellous job up to now targeting just the right consumer, namely me, with previous products, right prices too, with great launches, I bought Destruction Derby and WipEout, I bought Fantavision, RidgeRacer V and TimeSplitters, I bought Ridge Racers and WipEout Pure, no complaints, but this time, I can't buy the system for just Motorstorm and Resistance, I need more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

Ah Timesplitters, played future perfect online for the first time today. Man I'm telling ya' I'd be the happiest person alive if they announced another Timesplitters game for the PS3. Though I've heard that Resistance plays pretty similar to it, so here's hoping. Thing about playing online today was I was playing against people who has obviously been playing it online since it came out and I was dying horribly. Very frustrating.

    Who's that geared towards?

Yes, everyone seems to hate Sony at the moment [and rightly so imo] but if the PS3 was good, and had good games, I'd get it

There was so much hype about "the most advanced console ever" but after playing it for 2 hours, I was highly unimpressed with the games, and grainy HD, and even spotted like 2 glitches in Motorstorm!

That doesn't mean they are fun. Some of those pics really actually aren't all that great anyway. I'm holding judgement for another 6-12 months as to what i'll get. In reality though none of the consoles have excited me that much, i'm sticking to the pc for now.

I agree 100% with Ciderman's post. I'm sure that the PS3 is at least as good a piece of hardware as the 360. Both still have a way to go before developers fully utilise all the power that's available.

At the moment though the PS3 only has multiplats, Resistance and Motorstorm. I already have a 360 with 3 racers and 4 FPSs so I'm not really tempted to go for a PS3 yet.

Maybe in a year or so I'll be interested enough to buy one. I've never been a Fanboy. If the PS3 released a year before the 360 I'd probably be saying the same about the 360.

Sony has been telling loads of porkies in this generation though, but I suppose they did the same with the PS2.

    True,
but thats the nature of the business and PR.......Sony may well have bitten of more than they can chew when the PS3 was first announced, but in the end it is a fine machine.. (even without dual HDMI and network hub)
The strange thing is, paradoxically, it is great value at €630 for what you get, yet too expensive as a pure games machine compared to its rival, if you know what I mean (forced Blu-ray etc..)

On the subject of promises though.......I'm still waiting for those Toy Story level graphics that we were promised back in the pre-Xbox1 days....on either platform base..
""One of the basic premises of the is to put the power in the hands of the artist," Seamus Blackley, head of the Xbox division said, which is why Xbox developers "are achieving a level of visual detail you really get in 'Toy Story.'"

Its weird how anyone can comparing the 360 and the PS3. Its like comparing a 2 year old top end pc to a new top-end pc and both having the same graphics. Oh well. I guess you can pay more for the graphics and still be happy.

I'm basing it off the fact that multi platform games are developed on the 360 and ported to the ps3. Both games would therefore have the same graphics. Both systems are of similar power too.
Remember I said the same graphics.

Something odd just struck me. I didn't want an Xbox 360 at all, but I had one pre-ordered, and had some money just sitting in my account, so I bought it, and I loved it! Then, I was really looking forward to the Wii. But when I bought it, I was astonishingly under-whelmed. Outside of Zelda, it has nothing to offer but games that are available with better graphics on other consoles. But my point is this, I hate the PS3. I would rather peel off my skin and roll in salt than buy that overpriced piece of pooh-water. So does that mean if I buy one, I'll love it? This worries me greatly. I don't want to love it. I want to treat the PS3 the same way I treated the PS2, I want to ignore it like an unwanted stepchild.

That's not exactly true. Devs could easily develop higher poly-count models and higher res textures for the ps3 and then just have a switch when doing the build for each machine.

Developers could do that. They won't! But we all have dreams. I, for instance, often dream that I am a carefree bunny rabbit. Frolicking in fields, and, eh... "ridin' like a bunny" if you will. But I know deep down in my heart of hearts that I will never be a bunny. It's been difficult to come to terms with it, but thanks to the love and support of my family and friends, and the diligent mental care of Dr. Doran, I got through it.

They are developed for the 360, not on it. And as pointed out, it is possible to have differences between the two, whether devs will bother is another story. And the two systems aren't of similar power, it just looks that way at the minute.

    1. That's funny. That’s some nice dark humour there. Edgy you might even say. But I like it! The threat of violence is ALWAYS funny!

    2. So you are one of those people who do not get sarcasm, yes? You do get the concept of humour, right? I mean seriously, what a big mean person you are! The threat of violence is NEVER funny!

Has anyone come across a review of Rainbow Six Vegas for the PS3?

Morbo, nobody cares what you think. Why would you come onto the playstation fourm when you 'hate the ps3'. clearly trolling
