What to eat on the morning of a 5K run

    Hi all,

    There's a series of 5K races coming up that I'm going to take part in and I'm wondering what I should eat in the morning before the race.

    Races start at 12 noon on Sunday mornings, so I'm wondering should I get up and have a nice big fry (at least it would be high in carbs - whatever that means !), should I have something with lots of sugar in it? or should I ask my darling wife to prepare me a nice bowl of pasta for breakfast? How close to the run should i eat?

    I have no clue when it comes to nutrition (although I'm trying to learn) but I presume I should drink plenty of water.

    Have a bowl of porridge about 3 hours before the race and maybe a banana an hour beforehand.

    5km will not really eat into the glycogen in your muscles unless you've been starving yourself so I wouldn't worry about it.


    p.s. a fry is not high carb it's high fat and highish protein but contains less carbohydrate.

    I'd also say whatever you eat make sure you have eaten it before and it agrees with you. Never try something new on the day of a race, experiment before a training session.
