Well I fancy a treble, Aran Concerto, Denman and Well Chief. Not asking for much am I??!!:p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,698 ✭✭✭IrishMike

    No disaster here
Had the forecast of the arkle which was 15-1 and had Ebaziyan a fiver each way
    Good opening day
    Hope it keeps up
Tomorrow have well chief and newmill in a reverse forecast and gonna throw the house on denman
Nothing really that stands out after that

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭scojones

Don't be surprised if Lady of Scarvagh runs a huge race tomorrow. Whatuthink, Powerstation and Baron De Feypo also have solid each way chances. I think it's safe to put the house on Denman, but I won't be doing it!

Hopefully we can share our opinions on the Bumper....

The winner is guaranteed to come in at a big price and with the ground ACTUALLY good or good to soft at worst, we should be concentrating on horses who like it good...

    Cork All Star perhaps!?

I'm going for a Aran Concerto/Denman double, Voy Por Ustedes, Copsale Lad (EW), Liberthine (EW), Cork All Star.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭HiCloy

I shall be laying denman - I think he's too short a price (currently 2.4) in a competitive and unpredictable race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭Tipperarymike

agree with the above, denman is almost impossible to oppose, but personally I think Cailin Alainn is going to do it. Ok Denman has something to prove from last year, but i think the mare can be the one to do it.

Why should we trust you bud!?

Has anyone noticed that Betfred are offering 8/1 for Mad Fish when it's 13/2 or 7/1 at best with other firms.

    Do they "know" ?

They're going short on Fiveforthree to compensate...

going for snowy morning in the royal & sun alliance, have him at 8/1.
denman is a poor price,no value in favorites unless ur roman abramowich:D .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,828 ✭✭✭Healio

He beat Wichtita Lineman over C&D and ground, although the form was reversed twice, the first time he was travelling well when he just seemed to empty perhaps the 5 runs in two months took it out of him, the second time he finished only 10L down and it appears the heavy ground took it out of him. Other positives are his 3rd to BJK over C&D in Nov 2005, and Richard Johnson on board (7 places from 9).

Just checked that horse and it last race was in december but last 3 outings have resulted in a place

Catch Me will put manners on Aran in the first.Denan is way to short and is one of the lays of the meeting,Snowy Morning looks good each way value in this.Newmill was a good winner of the Champion Chase last year and the ground looks to have come good for him,Well Chief looks plenty short enough and he could 'bounce'.All Star looks well treated in the Coral Cup and Hendersons horse are in great form.Kim Muir is a lotto and I was an Aranleigh man all year but I think Mad Fish will reverse form on the better ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Aran Concerto is gonna find nowt off the bridle, Silverburn cracking ew bet, Denman and Well Chief are gonna sluice up by half the track. Mad Fish for the bumper

Well my choices arent looking too bad. Spent €60 yesterday and just got back €43.75 so not a 'bad' day at all ..... hoping today is gonna make me smile.

Shirley Casper & Silver Burn are my big hopefuls.

I popped a €5 on New Mill to win also.

Im gona be really dull and say denamn/well chief double, i just cant see past either, dom dorgeval doesnt do it for me and denman very much does, one defeat in 2 seasons and that was a length to nicanor..

    Denman ftw.

Ok, who wants to be rich??

    Aran Concerto 5/2
    Ungaro 11/1
    Justified 33/1
    Royal Paradise 50/1
    Oodachee 16/1
    Mad Fish 7/1

    Over 9.9million / 1

    You know it makes sense.

I'm going to lay Aran Concerto and back Newmill, maybe Silverburn to place.

Got a scare yesterday - laying Detroit city and backing Gaspara in the last saved me from a long spell in the gambling hospital. I was that bit too confident on Don't Push it and Brave Inca... such is the way of festivals though!

Anyone backing the allweather? Any serious money I saw yesterday was being made on Southwell.

Just back from the champ hurdle yesterday. Had a great day the weather was brilliant lika a day in May to be honest and the ground is really drying out fast over there. The temperature seems to be a a couple of degrees warmer than here.
I still think that Aran Concerto can win but am worried about silverburn.

I feel Denman will win i dont see a lot of oppisition but the ground is coming very much in Snowy Morning favour and Willie Mullins said it on ATR this morning.

I also feel that the ground will make a huge difference to Newmill because he has serious speed on better ground so for me hi is the value in the race. Well chief is too short of a price. Newmills course form goes a long way. A small eway on justified at 25-1.

in the 4.00 i will have a small eway on Ross River with Russell in the plate for Martin. Its like a race that he would do well in at the bottom of the weights. This horse had a spin at Cheltenham in December when beaten by Exotic Dancer and ignore his last run. Ilike Mister Hight in this one.

I fancy Malettin in the 4.40 for Venetia Williams

I like Aranleigh in the bumper and the drying ground shouldnt be a concern his pedigree points that way according to Willie Mullins this morn.

    Good Luck Today

2.00 Cheltenham- The Ballymore Properties Hurdle

MY TURN NOW each-way (9/1 Betfair)
    Lay ARAN CONCERTO

A strong looking renewal with My Turn Now, Catch Me, Silverburn and Scotsirish all looking to hold good chances. I'm particularly keen on My Turn Now, who was staying on best of all in the Tolworth Hurdle before he fell at the last. A victory last time out confirmed his well being and even at todays price of 9/1 he still looks like value. The 20/1 we took a couple of weeks back looks good now and he is one of my bets of the meeting. I think we could be in for a bit of an ante post touch if he runs up to his best.

I don't lay anything above 2/1 but if the favourite is supported into around 2/1 at the off, I'll be laying him. He looks like a big, scopey chaser to me and Zaffaran's progeny have a poor record over hurdles at the festival. I think the danger to Charlie Mann's horse is Silverburn, who is bound to be primed to the minute by Paul Nicholls.

2.35- The Royal and Sun Alliance Chase

    Lay DENMAN @2.48
1pt win CALAIN ALAINN (8/1+ Betfair)

I can't have Denman at all, as I don't really rate his form. He did beat Don't Push It, who was sent off around 4/1 in the Arkle yesterday, but that was only by 3/4 of a length and its debatable how good that rival is. His victories over fences have come in small fields and it is anybodys guess how his jumping will hold up in a 17 runner affair around Cheltenham. I'm happy to lay him at a short price.

Calain Alainn was in the process of running a very good race against Exotic Dancer and Our Vic last time out, and if her confidence is unaffected by that, she is bound to go close here. I'll have a small interest in her at 8/1+.

    3.15- The Champion Chase

WELL CHIEF to win (6/5 Betfair)

I think Well Chief is the best horse in the race by some way. Still only an 8yo, he has come back from a long injury and hinted that all the old ability remains when winning last time out. It has to be said the form doesn't look solid, but he could do no more than win as he did. Newmill and Voy Por Ustedes are the chief dangers (no pun intended!) but David Pipe has been careful to give his charge plenty of time to recover from his injury and with the stable in such good form, I'd expect he is primed to turn in a career best today. No horse in this field can hold a torch to his form behind the great Moscow Flyer two years ago.

    4.00- The Coral Cup

FINGER ON THE PULSE each-way (33/1 Betfair)

Barry Geraghty won this for us last year on Sky's The Limit, our bet of the meeting, and history can repeat itself today with Geraghty taking the ride on a similarly progressive sort, Tom Taafe's Finger On The Pulse. The son of Accordion totally bombed out last time at Kempton, but he failed to settle that day and I think that run is best ignored. Scratch that off and you're left with a highly progressive hurdler, who will be suited by the trip and ground and looks overpriced at 33/1. Not a race for huge stakes.

    4.40- The Kim Muir

    YARDBIRD each-way (25/1 Betfair)

Stable are in good form and I've always thought Yardbird would be suited to the demands of this race. I think he'll come up the hill strongly if his jumping holds up, but he rates a token choice in a minefield of a race.

    5.20- The Champion Bumper

    ONE GULP each-way (25/1 Betfair), WHATUTHINK each-way (37/1 Betfair)

The usual array of classy sorts here and although splitting them on form is an impossible task, I fancy two at biggish prices against the field.

One Gulp represents Paul Webber, who has saddled the runner up in this race for the past two years. She looked very good when beating Castlecrossings on her debut, and she gets all the allowances (carries just 10-4) and has Andrew Tinkler on board.

Whatuthink represents an unfashionable stable but the son of Presenting was impressive in beating Oscar Supreme by 19l in January at Naas. Nina Carberry rode the third that day, and I know she was very impressed with the horse and rates it very highly- her mount Dattledonuggy was well fancied that day but was slammed 20l by the winner who looks sure to enjoy the stiff Cheltenham finish. Curiously, last years Champion Bumper winner Hairy Molly won the same Naas bumper en route to the festival.

    My bets for today

    2.00 Aran concerto
    2.35 ungaro
    3.15 ashleybrook
    5.20 judge roy bean

    all e/w except ac

    2.00

I've backed Catch me to win and Battle Cry each way. (100-1). Battle Cry is a lightly raced hurdler and has some good form behind the principals in this race. Is a crazy price for a horse that should be 20-1.

    2.35

Can't see Denman being beaten...although all the talk of snowy morning has me slightly worried.

    3.15

Well Chief could hack up...and should...but at that price I can't be getting involved (Says he who has backed Denman). Voy Por Ustedes for me.

    4:00

All Star all the way. EAch way - The Spoonplayer and Redemption.

    4:40

Cant get away from Turthen...think it's a cert to at least place

    5:20

This is not a betting race but Mullins thinks Mad Fish is a good thing. Sure we'll see what happens...

    my bets today are:
    Aran Concerto (i got 14's)

Royal Rosa E/W (100-1) produces anything near his best then a place is in order.
    Baron De Faypo E/W (33's)

I know nothing about horses, so i just bet on their names and if the colours are pretty.

2:00pm: Imperial Commander(e/w) - Solid name and great gear. The black top with silver star is uber impressive. And good star wars feel to it.

2:35pm: Aces four(e/w) - I like poker, this lads has aces in his name, good enough for me. Gazzas girl will do well at the start, then will take a hiding towards the end.

15:15: Ashley Brook - She sounds hot. Mister Mcgolderick as a e/w punt due to my fondness of Black adder.

Massini's Maguire to ruin the Concerto.
