Anyone got any recommendations for good pair of runners for aerobics and body conditioning classes etc. Bearing in mind have a weak ankle from ligament damage. Have been wearing saucony shoes i got in america but wasnt happy with last pair. Want something i can buy in the shop as want to try them on.

Make sure to get cross trainer type shoes rather than running shoes.

They're quite different - runners are designed specifically for the motion of running forward - they have cushioning on the heel for the heel strike. The extra heel height just makes you less stable for the side to side stuff and direction changes you'll get in aerobics classes.

Cross trainers offer more lateral support, i.e. the front of them is wider for more stability, they should have a good sturdy upper as well.

Asics give me blisters. I've bought several pairs and never had a good fit.

Someone once recommended New Balance to me and they seem to suit me down to the ground, nice generic trainers

i have a new balance pair at the moment. they just dont feel comfortable anymore. they were grand when i got them first but they started to feel hard and felt heavy footed in them after a while.
Have bit of difficulty getting pair of cross trainer runners. Have always got great light running shoes - i forget about my feet (if that makes sense)-but as of yet havent found a cross trainer shoe i like.

I've a pair of Nike, just comfortable, couple of years old at this stage so should probably get a new pair.

Hey guys, I know you are all into your running, and from experience nothing can kill you like an ill fitting pair of runners, as such if you have noticed some joint pain in ankles, knees or hips after your last marathon maybe you should check out the below.

There is a new shop in Bray called Amphibian King. It's in Egan Business Center, on the Dargle Road. Their a specialist running shop, have an indoor track and do full gait and foot analysis for you when you go in so as to find the right running shoe for you. They also use a foot disc to take an imprint on your arches and insure the insole of the shoe will offer the correct support.

Some friends recently went in to get kitted out for the Dublin and New York marathons and could say only good things about the place.

They have a range of prices and shoes available, all the analysis is done for free as far as I am aware.

yes the analysis is done for free. If you're going at the weekend book an appointment as they can get quite busy. All the shoes sell for the RRP but they have a loyality discount off your next pair. I think Damien McKeever is the owner or at least is heavily involved and he is often found over on sports -> athletics.

Ok cool......but here's the dealbreaker..........I play b-ball, do they do b-ball boots or is it just runners?

Edit: Have droppped him a PM so will let you know what he says.

Kenny-5 I know they have a range of shoes for differnt things. Last example I heard was Damien talking about the specific needs of hockey players on astro turf. He seems pretty clued up. I think it was New Zealand that he studied in (open to correction on that one).

    Hey,

Sorry I'm late getting to this post. As Johnny storm points out we don't do many Cross Trainners yet!

We have one Cross Trainner for Females only which is the New Balance 791 we may well get another female cross trainner but don't really have the demand to get a male cross trainner just yet. With the Womens Mini Marathon coming up and a lot of people looking for a shoe to walk that in and also go to step class the cross trainners are more popular in the female category.

As Hunnymonster pointed out there is no point in getting a top of the line Asics running shoe and then playing B-ball in them as there is little to no Lateral support on those shoes. I know not everyones budget would stretch to a specfic shoe for running and another one for step class but if possible try and keep one pair of shoes just for running or walking in. They will last longer this way.
