Snowboarding music

Didn't really know where to post this, but i'm guessing it has more to do with snowboarders than musicians so i'll post it here.

I'm looking for some recommendations on some good music to listen to while snowboarding to get the adrenalin going.

I'm pretty easy going on genres, as long as the beats good, not too repetitive and gets the blood pumping.

So what would the snowboarders and skiers here listen to while on the piste?

I like Placebo, Rage against the Machine, Arcade Fire, Micheal Franti and then a mix of other random songs.

Anything really I suppose with a fast, aggressive beat to get me in the mood to launch myself off piste or to get some speed up down a red. I find when I listen to Jack Johnson or something mellow I tend to slow down a lot.. good at the end of the day when your legs have turned to jelly and your feeling the burn :)

Good ol Jack Johnson is already on the list for the chillout mix at the end of the day, i've got some QOTSA, RATM, Guano Apes, Saliva, SOAD, Stone Sour, falloutboy and some others on the list at the moment.

Looking for some good heavy bass and beat music though, my music collection is mainly rock and metal, i'd like to get some decent dance music but I wouldn't even know where to start. Music like that leftfield song off the Guinness ad with the wave turning into horses.

I usually tend not to take my iPod out on the slopes just in case I get a bad fall, so instead I take my small 100 song thing. Usually what goes on it is the following (from memory, I'll add more as I think of them). I wasn't sure if you wanted artists or songs? Ill post the songs if you like.

Daiki Kaisho, Royksopp, Teddybears STHLM, Rammstein, RATM, The Prodigy, Audio Bullys, Jimmy Eat World, Kid Loco, Overseer, RodrigoYgabriella, Audioslave, 113, AIR, Basement Jaxx, Blink 182, Boston, CAKE, The Chemical Brothers, The Church, Daft Punk, Junkie XL

A few songs that you must include:
    Junkie XL - Today
    Junkie XL - Mushroom
Daiki Kaisho - What To Believe
Audio Bullys - We Dont Care
    Royksopp - Eple

Ok I went through my WHOLE music collection and the list of songs below where the only ones I deemed good enough. I've been testing out music when i'm at the gym and realised my adrenalin levels drop off fast if the music has some low tempo parts in the middle of the song. I need music that has a high tempo throughout.

    Authority Zero - Revolution
fall out boy - thnks fr th mmrs
    Yellowcard - Rough landing Holly
Fall Out Boy - Snitches, and Talkers Get Stitches and Walkers
    Breaking benjamin - follow me
Burning Brides - Heart Full Of Black
    Letter Kills - Don't Believe
    linkin park - faint
    POD - Boom
Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go
    QOTSA - No One Knows
QOTSA - Go With The Flow
Rob Zombie - Dragula (Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare Mix)
Rob Zombie - Feel So Numb
    Stonesour - 30-30-150
David Guetta - Love Don't Let Me Go (Tocadisco Remix)
    Inner city playboys - Jetsetter
    Club - Deep Inside
    Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue

ZorbaTehZ, i'm going to look into those bands you recommended, could you list the individual songs though that are on your snowboard music list? It would help me out a lot as I won't have to listen right through every album to find the good songs.

If anyone else has some song recommendations, throw them at me, I want to get my Snowboard playlist up to at least 50 songs.

Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit, although really predictable, is BRILLIANT for off-piste!!!

    Good times...

keep em comin, i'll add teen spirit to the list.

I'm finding it really hard finding some good playlists on the net, I thought someone, on last.fm or even on amazon would of compiled at least one adrenaline or extreme sports playlist. All the ones i've found have rap songs on which I gave them a shot, but they are far from snowboarding music.

hmm... I got some Junkie XL albums and the songs you mentioned "mushroom, today" would be more suited for my cooldown playlist at the end of the day.

Currently listening through the RATM albums, will post what songs I pick out once i'm finished. Would really appreciate some more recommendations though.

I actually found my original playlist from when I was snowboarding. These are the songs that I'm not embarrased to list (lol:D ) also including what you asked mate:

Audio Bullys - We Dont Care
Junkie XL - Mushrom (I can possibly see where you're coming from including this in your cool-down list)
Junkie XL - Today (However I cannot at all understand why you would include this is a cooldown list? It was such an adrenaline rush hearing this come on while snowboarding)
    The Knife - Silent Shout
Daiki Kaisho - What to Believe
    Rammstein - Bang Bang
    Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt
    The Prodigy - Voodoo People
    The Prodigy - Minefields
    The Prodigy - Firestarter
Yellowcard - (seeing as you listed it I will include what I have on my iPod)
    Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue
    Yellowcard - Way Away
    JEW - Work
JEW - (I cant remember the name of the other one - on my old iPod)
    RATM - Wake Up
    RATM - Snakecharmer
RATM - People Of The Sun
    CAKE - Never There
The Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats
The Church - Under The Millky Way
Daft Punk - Around The World

As far as I know that is correct. When ever I heard the Daiki Kaisho song or Junkie XL Today coming over a crest I actually pummeled the jumps most of the times, lal (how I almost hit a car)

My playlist is really alternative/electronica and wont appeal to everyone - however the songs that had an extreme effect on me when I heard them whilst boarding are:

    (in order of effect)
Daiki Kaisho - What To Believe
    Rammstein - Bang Bang
    Junkie XL - Today
    Junkie XL - Mushroom
Audio Bullys - We Don't Care

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,149 ✭✭✭ZorbaTehZ

I've noticed that none of the Junkie XL songs are on last.fm which is very dissapointing also the Daiki Kaisho song is not either (his band is now called Dakota Star afaik). Check out What to Believe as the theme tune to this video though:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwRRL1VHRAI

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭L31mr0d

    Ok added:

    Prodigy: Voodoo People
    Rammstein: Bang Bang
    RATM: Know your enemy
    RATM: Wake up
    RATM: Guerrilla Radio
    Underoath: Reinventing Your Exit
    30 seconds to mars: Attack
    Disturbed: Decadence
Bullet For My Valentine: Hand Of Blood
    Greenday: Scattered
Guano Apes: Lords of the Boards
Incubus: A certain shade of green
    Pitchshifter: Microwaved
    Beastie Boys: Sabotage

... your list also reminded me about some game soundtracks i'd overlooked like NFS:Most Wanted and Flatout 2. I'm also going to dust off my old prodigy albums and finally rip them onto the computer ;)

All this talk of boarding music is making me jealous.
    Have fun mate.:)

Anything by NoFX is awesome for hitting park. I've tried pretty much everything else on my player and I just love NoFX while boarding, the tune up ear pads for my helmet was my best purchase all season. :)

The Rammstein song you guys seem to be calling bang bang is (I'm guessing, seeing as there is no Rammstein song of that name) actually called Feuer Frei!

Standard Films make beautiful snowboard porn - amazing boarders, terrain, editing - and soundtracks. check out the stuff from Whitebalance (2004) and Video Gangs (2004).

other than that it depends - for park i like drum n bass, preferably concord dawn. for backcountry and freeriding i love godspeed you! black emperor, sigur ros, and heaps of other stuff.

i cant snowboard WITHOUT my iPod anymore. the experience is so much better when listening to music.

    - once of the nicest songs to drop in to is definitely Pinback's 'Penelope.'

I always wondered why that was the only song on Mutter with an english name. . .lol.:)

well one fractured thumb later and that was one excellent snowboarding holiday, not much backcountry riding though as it is pretty late in the season and apart from the groomed piste the rest was pretty much melted so no champagne powder this time :( but hey, slush has its good points also, alot better than ice.

Great thing about the playlist is that whenever I listen to one of the songs on it it reminds me of where I was and what I was doing on those days. Should of really rethought using ear buds though *DOH!* my goggles headband kept them pretty secure but dropping in and wiping out meant a good 2 or 3 minutes fiddling with my gloves and earphones getting them back in place. What does everyone else use to hold their earphones in?

Oh and in case your wondering, I fractured my thumb when I slipped on the tiles coming out of the sauna after a few beers, rofl :D

I have the same problem, compounded by the fact that I use an under helmet mask so it's even longer! I suppose you could use those earphones that wrap around the ear.

I already have it in my playlist above. Its great for those straight runs down the groomed, non skier moguled piste where you can hunch down and pick up ridiculous speeds. I found it actually helped me to go faster if I imagined there was always someone right behind me getting ready to overtake.

    Awesome.

    Nice to see some old school posts, try;
Guns'n'Roses - Welcome to the Jungle, You Could be Mine, Night Train
    Aerosmith - Young Lust
Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild - this is an essential for me to start the trip with - gives you a real Easy Rider vibe

Other good bands to pick some stuff from could be Faithless, Linkin Park, Metallica, Foo Fighters (Learn to Fly is very apt for hitting the snowparks), Motorhead.

discovered the Need for Speed and/or Burnout series soundtracks are excellent...

was making up play lists noted that on the Chemical Brothers album 'Push the Button' part of the track listing -

    Hold tight (London)
    The big jump
    Left right
    Close your eyes
    Shake Break Bounce
    Surface to air

PS it looked all nice and properly indented in Word. :(

I wouldn't risk the iPod, the HDD version would be more likely to be affected by the cold.

I kept my mp3 in the inside pocket beside my chest so it was never cold. If you keep in on the inside the insulation and your body heat should be more than enough to keep it running.

    Oh and nice list.

Just as well I just ordered a 4GB card for the phone! :p Should be able to squeeze enough songs on there!! Only problem is no gapless playback, although I would of had my ipod playlist on shuffle anyway............
