Is the Lateral Pulldown good for working the biceps?

I like this machine, and find it easier to use than most other machines, namely the Bicep Curl machine

    How do,

Yeh it is good for the biceps although to get an alround work out you must use may different machines to work every part of your body. Your biceps and your lats for that matter will just get used to the owrkout that you are doing and you will see no benifit at all. Plus isolation exercises such as the bicep curl are much better for results!

Use a shoulder width grip and turn your palms in towards you. You'll find you can pull more weight than a standard lat pull-down this way, because your engaging your bicep and lats.

I have to use the machines for a while cos I have a problem with my chest, Doc's orders! I thought bicep curls with d/bells would be ok but he just said none at all for a while

And yes, its a machine, that you do bicep curls on!

using lat pull downs should be for back but targets Biceps secondary whichfor me gives the Bicep that extra little bit.. Man if you wont a good body you dont usually get it by the things u like and find easy, its the one's u find difficult and hate which make you grow, Bicep curls dumbell and bar, seated curls, concentarted curls, preacher curls. put the effort in get results

Have you thought of finding a second opinion from someone who may be more in tune with weightlifter/athlete's needs than the normal GP? Not questioning your doc's quality as a doctor here, but most of them won't know that much about weightlifting and the like.

He said no heavy liftin, then asked if I go the gym

My gym instructors go with the Doc too

And i'd rather not do anything that'll cause damage

Basically, the bones in my chest are swollen cos they're fusing together [natural growth thingy], so pretty much any regular stress on the area results in intermittent muscular pain in my chest

It sucks cos my chest looks all out of proprtion compared to the rest, but i'd rather it heals up fully first

    thanks for all the info!
