    Hi guys,

I've been reading through lots of posts and can;t believe how helpful people are. I need some help...

I used to be about 200lbs and lost 40lbs through healthy diet and exercise. I got to about 160 last year and have remained the same since then. Just wondering what i could do to loose the last 20lbs.

    Here is my info:

    Vital Statistics
    Sex: Femal
    Age: 23
    Height: 5'4"
    Weight: 160lbs

    Goals:
    Loose 20lbs

    Current Diet In Detail
    Breakfast: Porridge with linseed
Lunch: Salmon/chicken salad or brown bread sandwich etc
Dinner: Stir-fry or an omlette with loads of veg or lean protein and veg etc.

    Current Training Regime
Play gaelic football and train twice a week totalling 2.5 hour
I usually go to the gym and for an hour aswell (20 mins bike, 20 mins jogging, 20 mins cross trainer)

I am not loosing weight by doing this. Or maybe 1lb a month. I have tried eating 6 small meals a day rather than 3 big ones but it is really difficult with my schedule.

Any advice would be really appreciated
    Thanks

the main thing I would say is that you are eating far to little at the moment. Your body has probably switched to starvation mode where it keeps as much fat as possible as a result of this there is a chance that part of the 40lbs you have lost has been lean body mass. The result of this lean body mass is that your daily calorific needs will keep on reducing making it harder and harder to lose weight. So I would suggest put some food in your diet and also put a good weights routine into your diet to help rebuild some of the lean body mass which will help increase your metabolism and making weight loss easier

the reason for the 6 small meals is that feeding your body reguraly helps keep your metabolism up. So if you can't manage 6 meals a day try for 5 for at least 4.

    Thanks for your help.

I have been planning to add some weights into my gym routine but i'm a bit daunted by the whole area. Quite intimidated by the machines in the gym.

I was thinking that my body could be in starvation mode but thought this only happened if you are hungry. I usually snack on fruit aswell and have a protein shake/smoothie to try and help.

    Again thanks for your advice

What I would advise is to skip the machines and just use free weights as they will give you a lot better results. Your best bet is to get a trainer to set out a weights programme for you and show you how to do the exercises properly, after this you can post up the programme and we will slate it for you and tweak it a bit for you if you want;) .

In relation to the weights area being a bit daunting, yes it can be to start off with, the things to remember are 1) when you are in the gym you shouldn't really worry about anyone else (well unless you are checking them out;) ) so don't let anyone put you off your routine and 2) you probably pay the same gym membership fee as they do so they have no more right to use the equipment then you do so go and get the best value for money you can and go use the free weights. Truthfully once you are doing things properly and pushing yourself nobody will worry about you, hell like me they will probably respect you more

With regards to weights being daunting, and to add to what JSB was saying really - read up on how to lift properly and understand why lifting wights is good for you and the effect it has on your body etc. For example you can learn how to do a crunch properly, but if you are doing 100 of them you are kidding yourself....

I'm saying this because it is all too easy to just start doing what you see other gym members doing (and because they are lifting free weights you feel they may be more experienced and know what they are doing), but all too often they dont really have a clue!

I'm sure we could have a full thread listed with all the crazy sh1t that you see people doing in gyms:eek:
