Not to change the subject or anything, but everytime someone mentions Aran Concerto in Cheltenham to me I feel like crying...

About six months ago a mates younger brother told me he wouldn't be beat, had a friend who worked with trainer etc etc...

I'm not much of a gambler so generally only have a bit of loose change in the oul betfair account at any one time... Logged in and made a 23/1 antepost bet - making sure to leave €4 in the account for messing about with. Was getting paid the following week so said I'd wait til then and make a more substantial bet...

Course I forgot... The horse is now 5/2 or something and I have a grand total of............ (wait for it)............ €4.40 on him....... :(:o

take ur free money now-lay him at 3s to 14 euro -if he wins then u still have another 60 coming to u if he dosnt win u got free cash -or do a variation of this and collect cash immediatly -win win scenario if u lay off

    LOL at flux capacitator :D

Banker: Beef or Salmon  Just trolling, I'm a big fan of Brave Inca and am hoping he can reverse the AIG form with Hardy Eustace - might just forecast these two. Both good horses but bar his last race Brave Inca always seems to be able to grind out a result. The Chelsea of hurdlers, always seem to be able to nick it. His recent defeat and the hype surrounding Detroit City might just give a decent SP.

Bismarck: Kauto Star....just think his jumping is going to let him down sooner or later and the fences at Cheltenham might not be as forgiving. Also too short a price for a Gold Cup fav.

    each way banker -pedro bob

    bismark -kauto star

going to stick my hand out to be slapped here
banker-orbit o gold (70s on betfair -too big)

A race that brought together two of the most promising novices in the country in De Valira and Perce Rock but the pair didn't seem to produce their best and victory went to ORBIT O'GOLD, who produced a fine effort from the front.
Orbit O'Gold wasnot at his best when unplaced in the Pierse Hurdle last time but had previously reeled off easy victories at Downpatrick and Navan.
He set out to make all and had most of his rivals in trouble before the turn in. He quickened clear early in the straight and kept on well to make sure of victory. Noel Meade reported that the winner has always worked well at home and that he felt he was the pick of his Pierse Hurdle contenders. He will probably aim him at the Supreme Novices' Hurdle for which he got quotes ranging from 20/1 to 33/1. He is clearly a decent sort and there could yet be better to come from him.

This year so far, (not just my shop!!), the turnover in the shops is unbelievable, then after that the profit is even better!! But us folk in the bookmaking game know that the luck goes in runs on bothsides, fair enough usually on the bookies side, at the moment we are all sitting pretty, well on course for our targets, but we know a bad week is due, and the only place that sticks out where it will happen is Cheltenham, so get on the favs!!!!

The first three on the Tuesday is the best banker of a treble you will ever see!!!

Thanks Knighted, I took your advice on this one..... I also have €40 on Kauto Star at 4.3 - would you recommend doing something similar here? He's available to Lay at 2.88 at min but this will probably come down neared the race, right?

    banker - hardy eustace

    bismark - kauto star

reasons? - Hardy beat binca with a good deal in hand last time on ground hes not mad about and at a track that doesnt bring the best out of him, i cant see how inca can turn the form around, hardy will luv cheltenham as usual, he'll have better ground, and its his time of the year,,and hes as tough as they come, he luuuuvs a battle and has a smashing turn of foot at the end of a race...and simply he has ALWAYS been a better horse than inca,,,last season hardy just wasnt right, everyone can see that,,yet he was still a goood 3rd in the CH, I cant see inca beating him as in the AIG he WAS close enough if good enough and hardy went away from him and did it prettty easily...how people can keep saying inca will be better at cheltenham is baffling,,, as Hardy will also be better there and hes a real banker for me.

Kauto Star has serious talent and a great cruising speed,,,but he has a serious problem that i reallly hate to see in a horse wether goood or useless...he's brain dead!!!..hes like Carvill's Hill. buckets of pace, but a real chancer at jumping, he gueses at them and just throws himself at the fences,,,watch him closely in the king george and yull see walsh hardly asked him at any of the fences,,,he just went for it/chanced it himself....thats a recipe for disatser in my book,,,its a great attribute on a great clever jumper desorchard, arkle, imperiall call, best mate etc...but on a chancer its an accident waiting to happen.

    he's a bismark for sure.

    ciao' amigos...Baggio....

I dont think this will be the case with Kauto Star, there are a lot of people taking him on and with no course form id say a lot of the on course bookies will be taking him on on the day, especially if the first few days go well for them.
i reckon he'll go off 2/1 at the shortest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

I think he'll actually go off at about 5/4. I put Well Chief as my banker but I think Kauto Star has similar credentials. He's an absolute machine. If anyone wants to give me better than 2-1 now I'll happily take it....

I backed Hardy in the past but once Brave Inca came on the scene I became a big fan. I was disappointed with the AIG, first time Brave didn't battle the whole way to the line, Hardy looked good. Just hoping it was an off day for Brave, which he doesn't have very often. However, i've got three points on what you've said on Hardy.

What is your basis for saying he has ALWAYS been a better horse than inca. Ch Hurdle two years ago? Beat him a little over a neck when Barry Cash was on board Inca - thats worth a few minus lengths, sorry Barry. Or the more recent AIG. Coz they are the only times Hardy has finished in front that I can remember out of I'd say about 6 meetings. I don't think its clear cut at all who is the better. March 13th will tell us more.

I've heard it off so many people, alot of whom know nothing about horses that Hardy is such a tough horse, loves a battle etc.? I don't see him as a tough horse. He's not a dog and he tries, but so do most horses. Just because Harchibald wouldn't pass him doesn't make him tough. I'd fancy a donkey in a battle with Harchibald.

The third thing is this idea that Hardy wasn't right last year, was never fit, goin at 80% that he never ran a race etc. You don't get within 5L of winning a Champion Hurdle if your running on 80 or 90% or your not right. His form last year is fairly consistent if you take out his awful run in the AIG. I don't think he was off last year, and if he was off, why did Dessie Hughes keep running him in the top races, keep saying he was grand before each race, then suddenly this year announce that he wasn't right last year??

How did people open betfair acounts under the age of 18?

Surely you have to be 18 to have a credit/laser card no?

loophole is that you can have a visa electron at 16. and as you know wb from ur btfair advise: ('Visa Electron €15 Instant 1.5% None 2-5 days Free') you can deposit funds... i used to use this all the time when i wasnt old enough:)

Dessie did say the horse wasn't right last year. I heard it from him many times. And if you're in that situation what do you expect him to do? Put the horse into the stable and leave him there for the year, in the hope that next year is better? You have to keep entering him in his usual yearly engagements and hope that whatever is ailing him will sort itself out.

    Terry Mac,
...some interesting points there, well as has been said here,,he WAS wrong all last season,,,his runs in the AIG the Martell Hurdle and the punchestown Shell hurdle were DEFFINATELY not his form at all.....and to say hes not a battler like Brave Inca is pure BS, he outbattled Inca in that great second champion hurdle when inca and Harchibald came to take the race from him, he would have won that AIG that Macs Joy won in a 3 way finish with inca and Hardy but Odwyer didnt REALLY go for him as much as he could have...thats prettty obvious if you watch the footage,,,and I have recorded all the major NH races from 1991 till now and have a really nice record to troll through when needs be.....
Inca was not at all having an off day in the AIG Mccoy was adamant he ran exactly to expectencies, and Mccoy had him at hardys shoulder all thru the race,,,again on ground he would prefer much more than Hardy and they jumped the last level,..its all there on camera,,,hardy outbattled him and went away from him pretty easily.....Ive nooo doubts he's the better horse,,,he demolished Roosster Boooster when that grey came to take him in hardys first champion hurdle win, i had him backed at 28/1 couldnt believe all the BS THAT time about his price and how the grey was more or less nailed on....again no doubt in my mind Hardy IS back to himself this year and has proved it over and over again.,,,and as regards the 6 meetings?..3 of those were last season when hardy eustace was NOT right,,,surely yu can see that...
As regards "heard it off so many people many of whome know nothing of horses"?..Im following racing since i was 5 years of old,,,first race ever seen was the 1967 national...have never missed a cheltenham or aintree since then....have worked in major stud,,,uncle and grandfather trained horses...folow nh racing every season...so i know my **** as they say?!....no one knows everything...but i have heard so many gooons mouthing off about brave inca and how tough he is bla bla and basically dismissing Hardy and Macs Joy etc...that i was really delighted to see em well shut up after the AIG, as many (in the Uk anyway) had really only jumped on the McCoy bandwagon since he got to be main partner of Inca.

we'll see what happens this year...but Hardy Eustace has won 2 and keeps turning it on this year...thats good enough for me :)

    ciao' amigos...Baggio.....
