Canon 40'd has showed up on Engadget, apparently someone published the specs online, and then pulled them! I'm all excited :)

It's popped up in a few places from time to time over the last year or so. PMA is only around the corner so the old rumour mill has gone into overdrive.
Check out all 366 pages of rumour about the new Canon line up here.

Some of it's wishful thinking, some looks like it will become reality.

On the other hand a 1dMKIII is on the way along with a feast of other goodies check here.
new 580 ex II etc. OOohh I'm all excited, let the gear porn fest begin.

ahh the rumour mill, endless hours of entertainment. :D

I'm actually sort of interested in a 40D if it were to come armed with a sensor cleaner...but having done a modicum of research the other day, it looks like the earliest I could get my hands on one is sometime in October if it happens, which effectively means 2008 sports season. So I'm seriously starting to consider a 30D.

1D MKIII Calina... 10mp and 10fps :D Great for the ol sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

    10 fps mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :)

The arrival of the 40D will probably make the 30D a lot cheaper ,or will it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

if/when a 40d arrives, it will eventually make the preceeding model cheaper. I wouldnt put that much trust in the rumour mill though.

The 30D saw the 20D drop by about €100. Not really worth holding out for to be honest. If the 40D is a massive leap then the second market will be definitely on the side of the buyer.

Where might one get a new 20D these days? They disappeared off ac-foto, technik direkt while I was waiting for the price to come down a bit!

I did a quick search through the usual suspects and the only thing I came up with is a 30D. If you're set on the 20D you may be into the second hand market.

If anyone wants to sell their 20D/30D ,let me know :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,735 ✭✭✭mikeanywhere

I need to get rid of my 20D in the near future hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

d'ya wanna buy both a 20 and a 30D? Could sell both and get the new 1d :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭whyulittle

I'm not set on anything really, I'd just prefer to buy whatever I got, new. Want it for sport mainly, so that's why I'd prefer 20D to 400D, more fps. Last time I saw it online it was at €999.

On a tangent, do ac-foto/technikdireckt let you use your own UPS/DHL account if you have one, or do you have to pay for shipping through them regardless?

10fps (http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/1Ds-MkIII/shutter2.mp3) Although you'd need a 256GB flash card and about a week to go through each series.

Try taking photos of the Rockerfeller centre with that one Ryan, you'll have dozens jumping on you, if you're not shot!

was actually thinking while on the observation deck... how difficult would it be to get in there with a photo sniper? Hmm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

This showed up on Engadget today, if you follow the link in the article, apparently, the LCD the 'spyshot' shows is enormous!

    so it's a 30D with a slightly bigger screen? That's funny... Wasn't the 30D just a 20D with a bigger screen?!?

Ok so I know that wasn't the only difference, but essentially that's it. If/When a 40D comes out and the only thing it's boasting is a bigger screen and sensor cleaning, I'll vomit in terror.

If they made it the main seams weather sealed similar to the D200 they would have a winner on their hands, also I heard the 3" screen was to be adopted for all future models in the Canon line up

Oh tell the truth. You'll probably buy it anyway!

    me balls I will.. it's a 5D or a 1D for me next

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

Good man thats the direction to go in. Why be hung for a lamb, when you can for a sheep :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

I certainly won't hold my breath for the 40D. It would really need some good new features. Ok, 10 megapixels and a 3" LCD would be nice, but not worth the upgrade from a 20D.

    Sure time will tell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭jlang

When can we start objecting that the coming 6D/7D/3D/5dMkII is only a 5D with a bigger screen and live view!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

it's all about the upgrade tbh :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

I should checke if there are some rumours about new Pentax DSLR too ;-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Mmmm, sounds nice to me... sometime next year would be just dandy :)

What else could they include that would be of use to us anyway, apart from a bigger screen? I don't care about smooshed up crammed in megapixels, or pointless sensor wiggling dust removal systems, or a not-full-quality raw mode! They'd have to do something miraculous with the sensor to make it behave better in low light at high iso, or include an extra button (like the one on the 1D mkIII) that you can use for autofocus on the back, just how I like it...

It's prolly going to be a worthwhile upgrade from the 350 anyway for the sake of ruggedness without the bulk of the 5D or loss of the 1.6 sensor crop.

Oh, I hate it when I want [expensive] stuff.

I would put money down it won't be full frame. Good money :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭Monasette

you know you want one !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

it definately wont be full frame. Why would Canon do that? That'd wipe out the 5D and 5D replacement market. It'll be a 1.6x or a 1.3x crop, most likely another 1.6x. Few more MP, bigger screen. Maybe faster burst rate...

Check out this link. Seems like the 40D will be the next new dSLR from Canon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,537 ✭✭✭Gyalist

Looks like the 40D will be out soon. A Best Buy employee posted this yesterday but then quickly pulled it. However, you can find the image here.

If all the specs are true then they will have a winner.

hopefully this means the 30D value will drop (€950 BO on Komplett) and I can finally upgrade my rather wrinkly 300D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 465 ✭✭B0rG

hmm... I was hoping for new 6D or something in that line, and subsequent price drop on 5D which I was going to buy...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

If it a) does exist and b) comes with weather sealing c) and with 6.5fps I will be buying it instead of the 1D3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,263 ✭✭✭✭Borderfox

Absolutely, how are we going to afford it otherwise!! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

If it's not expensive then why is it worth buying?? LOL

It will be interesting to see just what the specs of the 40D are ...if/when it is ever released. I'm not going to believe the hype until I see it on the Canon site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

roll on over to DP Review.. They're already discussing the merits of the 40D, the 5D MKII and the good old 1Ds MKIII. Knobs.

Yeah, but it didn't even have half the required amount of cocaine on it... Careful with those eyes now, keep rolling them like that and they're liable to fall out

I like that description. Pentax is Pentax, but htat 40D looks damned good. If it were full frame, I would be thinking about switching to Canon...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

Outstanding; Live View has made it to the consumer level cameras. Can't wait to see what they shoehorn into the 5D replacement.
