Naming Babies

Pighead and Miss Piggy were doing that whole "If we had a baby, what do you think it would look like" thing the other night.

We both agreed that it would definitely be a fantastic looking speciman and that its intelligence levels would be simply phenomonal. The problems started when she said "Oh our little Roger will be beating the girls off with a stick"

"Roger my fcuking arse" I spluttered. Now Pigheads no caveman and I even let Miss Piggy make decisions over the unimportant stuff, but c'mon for something as important as naming our baby theres no way I'm gonna let her call the shots. She asked me what I planned on calling the baby and I replied "Zolar" Silly woman threw a hissy fit and we had a row.

Upshot is if we have a boy its gonna have two names, as shes not budging and neither am I. Is it cruel for your son to have two names? How do other couples decide? Surely theres occasions where one half of the couple hate the chosen name? What if compromise isn't an option? So many questions!

I have 2 boys names and 2 girls names that I like, and my BF says he likes them too... but I reckon its more to do with the fact that as long as we're not calling them something like 'Fifi banana Tree' or something equally as random, I really don't think he cares what our imaginary children are called.

However, if he really did have a name preference, within reason, *I would be happy to go along with it.

*Providing his preferential name happens to be one of the the names I have already pre-approved, of course.

Myself and my boyf had that same discussion! I've always loved a particular name -lets say Roger- and for years I've always said if I had a son I'd call him Roger. My ex had no problem with that but since he's my ex little Roger won't be his!

My current boyf can't stand the name but I've been saying 'tough, that's the way it is', jokingly really as it was a hypothetical situation and not a 'here and now' problem.

Anyway... seems he sees it as as much a a problem as you do Pighead and I only realised how deeply he felt about it when he was really drunk one night and phoned me to talk about it. He said he had discussed it with his brother and they had decided that he shouldn't be dictated to in that way since he hates the name.

The next day, when he had sobered up, I said to him 'For f sake, don't take me so seriously, do you think I would seriously insist on calling a child a name his Dad hated? If and when the time comes it would be a joint decision'. He accepted that.

Not sure if I'm making myself clear but the point is she prob doesn't mean it as seriously as she's letting on, maybe she's just being as PIGHEADED (boom boom) as you and it's not the name that's important now rather that she stands her ground. I didn't realise how much my boyf was thinking about it cos we're nowhere near the having babies stage of life so I wouldn't have thought it would be so important to him.

It's a silly thing to argue about.

Zolaroger is quite an endearing name though..

Do you mean let her pick the name for the first child and then I'd pick the second? Thats fine in theory but Iknow for a fact the sneaky cow would have the first child and then declare "Thats me done with the whole babies thing, in your face Pighead, me and Roger laugh in your general direction"

Let her call him Roger, then just refer to him as Zolar all the time anyway.

i have one name picked out for a girl..which he says is fine..then i was thinking , what if we had another girl, what about [insert lovely name here] . No, he says, dont like it, i like [insert stoopid name here]...me thinks there might be a problem if we have 2 girls.

Dont get me started on the boys names.

Be careful where you do your spluttering, that could be seen as an invite.

Just pick a nice unisex name that can be used in the event of a boy, a girl, or even a hermaphradite. Personally I am going to go with Gogo Pisslips Funkywagon.

This is what 'm talking about. It wouldn't surprise Pighead in the slightest if this issue soon became the number one reason couples split up. Femmy you seem like a head strong stubborn independent woman.

Pighead imagines when it comes to baby number two you're gonna dig your heels in and make a stand in honour of your great granny and gran aunts who were forced to call their kids Pat Jr or Michael Jr. Obviously your fella isn't going to be too impressed at what he sees as an affront to his masculinity and hey presto we've got a situation.

Let us know what transpires Femmy.

With six weeks to go to the birth of our first child we're in that boat now. We don't even know whether it's a boy or a girl so double the fun. We have a name for each sex that I'm happy enough with, but she's always firing more at me.

Mrs Mark : How about Riley?
Mark : As in life of?
    Mrs Mark : Shut up

It's all fun and games til someone is called apple blossom

Christ no!! Then she will be wanting more freedom, before you know it she will have a longer chain in the kitchen.

    Call the kids '1', '2',.... 'n'

    I'm glad I could help.

Where do I send the bill?
What way is best to get it to you, by PM, email, snail mail, pony express, smoke signals or pigeon post?

Don't Pigs have litters of up to about 10 Piglets?

Why don't you just name 5 each? By the time you get to Piglet number 6 you'll be at a lost for names.

Well if you expect us to believe that Pighead has an actual girlfriend surely it's not beyond the realms of reality that you are actually a pig.

You're exactly the sort of bitter, frustrated shell of a man I don't want my little Zolar turning into. Pighead shall cuddle him often and encourage him to prevent him turning into a Bazmo.

Insist that Zolar was the name of a dearly departed relative and it would mean the world to you if your first born could carry on his/her memory by sharing the name.

    Think emotional blackmail Pighead.

As for me, obviously my first child will be called BabyJ.

With our baby, I suggested a name, and my boyfriend did too.

The name he chose was ridiculous, so naturally, my choice won.

    Roger, but pronounced "Zolar"

Though if the child wanted personalised number plates later on in life you could help them with an appropiate name. Like 24 D 35531

What the fcuks going on here? Pighead never asked for any of you lot to christen my baby? Whats with all the suggestions? To think I'd take advice on what to call my baby from you lot. Shame on the lot of ye!

Imagine my embarrassment in future years if my son asks me how I chose his name.

"Eh, some lad called Max_Damage on a now defunct message board called boards.ie suggested it, it was the best of a bad lot, sorry Porky"

Fcuk that, no the question was, do you think that choosing babys name has the potential to split up a couple if agreement can't be reached. At least I think thats what the question was. Ah fcuk it, we'll call him Porky.

Job Done. Terry, lock her up buddy.

Or people could actually answer the question at hand.

At least your fella dosen't want your son to be called Marcus!! The poor old child. I just keep thinking of your man from bosco when i hear the name i cringe. He's very sey about this. I mean he'll be Marcus Hunt I rest my case......:(

Pigman, what about prudence, petronella, pugsley?

'discussing' babies names shouldnt split a couple up. My aunt and uncle had that problem. The family got together and put girls names in a hat. Poor child was named gobnait. My mother was the one who put in the name and said nothing (very wise as ther was 10 others involved!!) My aunt n' uncle had to accept it. Maby thats an option???

The solution is simple Pighead, Myself and the Gnomette have a deal, if she does not want the baby (be it boy or girl) to be named Megatron then she must buy me an octopus and all the related octopus keeping paraphernalia I require.

Make a similar deal an all your baby/octopus problems are solved.
