The lineup was already fantastic before they added a shitload more great acts this morning.

I've wanted to visit Barcelona for quite some time now so this festival is undoubtedly the perfect excuse. :)

cant believe bad brains are playin as well

I've just spent all morning trying to convince one of my friends she'd be able to see barca go to this festival and be back in time for the mini marathon and run it. Having none of it. Wilco, Modest mouse, Patti Smith... Hopefuly wilco come over here, i wouldn't read too much into it on this though they love that city. play it more than any other european one...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,656 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Actually when is this festival on? If its after 18th June, I might be quite tempted. See some bands I've never heard of, then the ultimate best...Sir Jimmy with the Pumpkins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭Beans_On

    Its may 31st, June 1, 2.

85E (for 3 days fest) if you buy before tommorrow  (special Offer). But even then it only goes up to 105Euro.

Think it's worth mentioning that the festival does not supply camping facilities; you need to sort out your own digs.

Also, recommended airline: ClickAir. Was introduced to this outfit last month on the Bargain Alerts forum. They fly straight into the heart of Barcelona and the fares are very reasonable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭aurel

Heading to this as well. Aer Lingus worked out 166 euro return for me so I'm happy with that. Can abyone recommend a cheap hostel near the festival site?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

    www.primaverasound.com. Anyone in boardsland going?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Was considering it, mainly because the Pumpkins are headlining. Wanna wait to see what UK/Irish dates they announce before deciding though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Looks like Friday is missing a big name... perhaps The White Stripes? I've never seen them before (weird) so they'd be a nice addition.

Think there's about five international acts left to be announced. I believe Of Montreal will be doing the usual closing gig on Sunday 3rd June at the Apollo in Barcelona.

    Sonic Youth!!!
    Comets on Fire!!!
    Blonde Redhead!!!
    Wilco!!!
    Durutti Column!!!
    Jonathan Richman!!!

I don't give a toss about Smashing Pumpkins. Or Slint, actually. Seen 'Spideryawn' already. There's loads of boring stuff at Primavera, but who cares? It's Barcelona. Can't wait until May!

Predictions for final acts to be confirmed?

    My guesses are possibly:
    - Magnolia Electric Co.
    - Cat Power
    - Joanna Newsom/Smog joint
    - Battles
    - Yo la Tengo (I feckin' wish)
    - Dinosaur Jr. (Vague possibility)
    - Grinderman

I hate these speculation threads, but I'm sort of totally stoked. So fuggit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭aurel

Aye, I reckon Battles are a certainty. There's a perfect wee slot in their european tour dates.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

Let's hope so. Although I don't want to be greedy. 5 time seeing them is enough. I'd happily swap for Yo la Tengo or Joanna Newsom. I'll get to see Magnolia Electric Co. anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

Word on the street is, from a reliable source, that BATTLES have secretly confirmed Primavera. Hope it's true. They're in Lyon at the end of May, but have to get over to Rome, which is a fair schlep with gear, but doable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Im all booked in except for accomodation for this.

Tickets are going up again after today so theres probably another announcement tomorrow. Battles would be nice. Would also like to see a few more bits from ATP Like The Notwist, Cornelius and The Go! Team. I cant imagine Joanna Newsom would play but would be pretty cool if so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

There will probably be a lineup update this evening since the price for tickets go up tomorrow.

EDIT: Toast got in there before meh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

Yeah, Cornelius and JN are likely, too. No, wait, I think JN can't do it due to other tour commitments. Not too pushed by Cornelius, though, and really don't like the Go! Team. And I hope !!!/chk chk chk/woof woof woof/whatevzwhatevzwhatevz don't play in place of someone much better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 pcorry

Apperently there are 10 more International bands to be announced (according to their myspace).Plus more spanish acts.

My money is on Battles and les savy fav

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Well the ATP stage is unlikely to have !!!. The other stages are more mainstream so I dont really see any reason to be against them showing up there as they wont be replacing anyone who isnt within the same league anyway. Im just hoping theres enough beyond the ATP lineup for my friends who wouldnt be so pushed about that. I fear Ive sold the festival just on the strength of Smashing Pumpkins alone to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

!!! are doing Summercase and Benicassim in July so I doubt they'll be at PS.

Checked Beastie Boys' website and saw they have announced a Barcelona Festival appearance. :)

...but it was for Sonar. :(

Cornelius playing it too. And Devo, oddly enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

Devo? Awesome. Hope they head over here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Hm? No lineup update after all.

    Maybe tomorrow. :o

Site is down at the moment. Maybe for an update.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

Apperantly here are the last batch of acts left to be announced:

    AA Tigre
    Anticonceptivas
    Battles
    Beirut
    Black Lips
    Fujiya and Miyagi
    Ghouls N' Ghosts
    Half Foot Outside
    Hot Chip
    Peluze
    Plastic D'Amour
    Portastatic
Raul Möya y el Trio Miniña
    Sr. Chinarro
    The White Stripes
    Za

    link?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

I assume thats La Tigre at the start. Them, Beirut, Battles, Hot Chip and White Stripes are nice names to have there. Fujiya and Miyagi are meant to be good as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭Beans_On

afraid not, theres an spanish act called AA tigre.
I see them names being mentioned in the spanish forum alright (on primavera.com)

You mean Le Tigre? Nope, it's deffo "AA Tigre", Spanish (I presume) band/guy.

I was hoping they'd slip Les Savy Fav in there but I'm more than satisfied with the final lineup tbh. Hopefully The White Stripes are not playing on the 31st as their sched would seem to indicate so... too many big names that day.

Oh. Still some nice new names. Do you have a source on these or are they speculation from somewhere else? In other news got my apartement sorted out for this. We are a five minute walk from the forum which will be dead handy. Ive camped further away than that in most festivals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

They're now all on the Primavera Sound Myspace (under the "lineup" section) so I would think they're as good as confirmed now. I reckon the main site will be updated this evening.

There could be a few more acts added... there's definetly one more showcase to be announced at least.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭aurel

Nice wan. All the B's are class. Gonna have to do some research on the others. Thanks for posting

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,731 ✭✭✭DadaKopf

I'm a likkle disappointed. BATTLES I'm stoked about. Don't care about The White Stripes. Really don't like Beiruit. Fujiya & Miyagi are OK - I'm not gone on the album. Anyway, seeing BATTLES for a 6th time? Good for me. But I had hoped Joanna Newsom, Grinderman, or Shellac would end up playing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭aurel

I know what you mean, I thought we'd be getting Grinderman for sure. Is it definite that there won't be any more additions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

I would have loved to have seen Shellac added (aswell as Yo La Tengo) but I figured they wouldn't from the beginning since both already played last year.

I'd say the lineup is complete now, besides the one showcase left to be announced. You can add Alexander Tucker to the list above; I notice he's been added aswell. Roll on May so!

Funny, was talking about Alexander Tucker last night at Andrew Bird. Saw Tucker at Bardo Pond. That's cool, he's great.

Jaysus, each day is jam-packed with stuff to see. Plan to (realistically) catch:

    The Smashing Pumpkins
    The White Stripes
    Melvins
    The Dirty Three
    Explosions in the Sky
    Fennesz/Mike Patton
    Comets on Fire
    Justice

    Modest Mouse
    Built to Spill
    Los Planetas
    Blonde Redhead
    Band of Horses
    Low
    Girls Against Boys
    Portastatic
    Hot Chip
    Brightblack Morning Light
    Chromeo
    Kid Koala
    Luke Slater

    Sonic Youth
    Buzzcocks
    Isis
    Pelican
    Múm
    The Durutti Column
    The Apples in Stereo
    Battles
    Grizzly Bear

Of course, I'll try and see Slint, The Fall, Wilco, etc. depending how the timetable pans out. Thankfully it's not one of those festivals that tends to clash everything together, judging from past years at least.

For those who are going, who are you most excited about seeing?

    For me, it's:
    • Sonic Youth
    • Battles
    • Comets on Fire
    • The Durutti Column
    • The Fall
    • Blonde Redhead
    • Dirty Three
    • Fennesz & Mike Patton

I approve of this thread if only for another chance to pimp that I tagged the entire lineup in last.fm and created a streaming station.

Id be hard pushed to try and get an order for everything though I should probably start working on it. Minus the bigger names heres what Im looking at seeing. Ive also a big list of stuff Im curious enough to check out if its not clashing with anything.
    • Múm
    • Explosions In The Sky
    • The Apples In Stereo
    • Grizzly Bear
    • Pelican
    • Hot Chip
    • Battles
    • Beirut
    • Slint
    • Kimya Dawson
    • Built To Spill
    • Chromeo
    • Blonde Redhead
    • Sonic Youth
    • Wilco
    • Girl Talk
    • Patti Smith
    • Herman Düne
    • Isis
    • Black Lips
    • Justice
    • Robyn Hitchcock And The Venus 3
    • Spiritualized acoustic mainlines
    • Low
    • Ted Leo & The Pharmacists

Timetable should be released tonight/tomorrow. I need to listen to a ****load of music.

Only two weeks away aswell? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Excellent.. hopefully there arent as many horrible clashes as Im fearing. Really excited about this... 2 weeks time Ill be contemplating where to eat in Barcelona.

Anyway can anyone tell me what time the Closing Party went to last year? Getting any sort of information about the way things are run at this festival is like getting blood from a stone. Apparently theres a beer token system as well. Does this count for food? Any other advice from anyone who has been there before?

So far the best piece of advice anyone has given was to make sure you get your tickets before the festival otherwise you'll be queuing to collect them on the Thursday for a couple of hours.

****, that figures actually. Where can I get the tickets before hand? My receipt was a little vague.

I'm wary about what kind of clashes will pop up myself but thankfully it's not one of those festivals that puts everything on at the same time, at least going by past years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭aurel

I'll be landing in to Barcelona late on the Wed. Does anyone know if it would be possible to collect my tickets that night?

Also interested like the others here to hear details on coupon system etc. Is it possible to bring alcohol into the venue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

If you booked them through Tick Tack Ticket you can collect them at any tick tack ticket agent up to 3 days before the festival. The info on where and how is here. Wednesday will be too late. I dont know if you can collect them at the showcase that night at the Apolo.. maybe. If not Id suggest getting down to the site a bit before the gates open (4pm). Apparently the paypal tickets are the ones that take the real long time to pickup as you cant get them beforehand.

From what I can gather from other people the token system works at one token for one euro. After that theres small beer for 3 tokens large beer for 4... I havent been able to find out what constitutes a large beer. Someone said spirits and a mixer are 6 but you get easily a double measure if not more in the spirits. I think the whole idea is to prevent people having cash at the festival as Barcelona has a huge pick pocket problem so I assume food and merch is also bought using the tokens but Im not sure.

Rowlocks. Mine are paypal. So it looks like it's early on the thursday for me.
    Thanks for the info.

Probably 3 tokens for half pint, 4 tokens for pint.

I'm Paypal too, so early for me on Thursday aswell. Thanks Toast.
