At Jeff Tweedys solo gig he said Wilco would be back to Ireland.

Even if Sonic Youth do play theres no way of predicting beforehand, they play such random dates in Europe that you never can tell.

Would love to see Wilco, to think, they played Whelans years ago.

Wilco have just been confirmed for ATP vs the fans in England in May

Would love to see Sonic youth at some small gig here. Hoping its a convenient date/price IF they come over.

Wilco are playing ATP events, including Primavera festival in Spain. Sonic Youth are playing an ATP 'Don't Look Back' gig in August, so it's possible they could come over here around then, if someone books them.

I'm thinking a possibility for Electric Picnic meself.

Wilco are playing Bonaroo festival in Tenesse in Jun after that barca date so i doubt they'll come back across again. Which is complete ****.

SY would still be on their Rather Ripped tour though wouldn't they?

Not that I didn't like RR. It was all right. But I'd love if they toured playing their old songs. Preferably off DN, Sister and Evol.

They played plenty of old stuff when I saw them in England last December, though I heard it was not a typical setlist.

If Wilco are playing the ATP thing then the chances of them crossing the pond for show here are quite high, I would reckon, since there's nearly a two week gap between the ATP and Primavera Sound dates.

the only gap is May 21 and 22 and Shepards bush have no gigs for those nights up so i'd put money on 3 wilco gigs or at least 2 so i doubt they'll be in Ireland. Aw well...

    MAY-19SOMERSET, ENGLAND ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES
    MAY-20LONDON, ENGLAND SHEPHERD'S BUSH
    MAY-23COLOGNE, GERMANY LIVE MUSIC HALL
    MAY-24BERLIN, GERMANY KESSELHAUS
    MAY-25HAMBURG, GERMANY GROSSE FREIHEIT
    MAY-26DRESDEN, GERMANY ALTER SCHLACHTHOF
    MAY-28FRANKFURT, GERMANY MOUSONTURM
    MAY-29PARIS, FRANCE BATACLAN
    MAY-30 GENT, BELGIUM DE VOORUIT
    MAY 31 AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND PARADISO
    JUN-02BARCELONA, SPAIN PRIMAVERA SOUND

That sucks, they're doin a fest in USA at the end of June so they'l hardly come back to Europe for a few months after that.

saw sonic youth play their own show here in 1997/8? was the time of a thousand leaves, was great to see them in that kind of setting, at the festivals ive seen them do here since ( 2 times its been more 4 or 5 old hits and the rest off the recent album) . the problem i have with sonic youth live is that they have so may albums and so many songs that there is no way in hell you'll see them do a show where they play all your favorites or even a set of 50% of favorites so i always felt that while they kicked ass live, i left the shows feeling a little dissapointed - not by the performance but by the set lists, - but thats my problem not theirs :-)

Eh...they're playing Hurricane Festival in Europe in June 23rd & 24th, and then a festival in Poland on the 29th. So there's still a chance.

News: Sonic Youth have been added to the Primavera lineup. Part of the ATP 'Don't Look Back' gigs, when they'll be playing Daydream Nation from start to finish!!!

Sooo glad I booked tickets to Primavera!!!

big fan of sonic, never heard wilco, but yankee hotel is a legend of an album. either way, two good bands, so i doubt they'll ever play together. especially in the backass of europe.

Both of them are playing Primavera this May, it's in Barcelona, which is in Spain, which is in the backass of europe.

    Primavera is gonna be CLASS!

^Where did you hear Sonic Youth confirmed.

If SY and Iggy Pop/The Stooges are on the same day I might consider a day ticket - although I'll have seen SY in London the Thursday beforehand...

there are no day tickets for ep, full weekend only

lineup is officially announced at 6pm, so no real point in telling you where i heard it. its a dead cert, signed sealed and delivered

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,818 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Polyphonic Spree, Iggy & the Stooges, Jesus & Mary Chain, Beastie Boys, Sonic youth all playing.

Cant believe I'm gonna miss Sonic youth in Ireland. Seems like a very good lineup

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭JC 2K3

Hmm... It's not a Daydream Nation show and I wasn't that into Rather Ripped, so I guess I'm not missing much.

Iggy and the Stooges though... damn, I'd so buy a day ticket for that if they existed...

Looks like no Wilco at Electric Picnic, heading back to US mid Aug for a tour through to Sept so considering by then they'l have been in Europe twice since May, it looks unlikely they'l come back

But Jeff promised at his accoustic gig that they'd be here this summer

just saw both at primavera sound in Barcelona. Cost of tickets, accom and flights for three nights = 300 euro.

I thought Wilco at Primavera were kinda boring. Maybe it was the time of night, or that there wasn't a hope in hell of them making up for Sonic Youth's amazering set, or Battles at 3.45, but I couldn't get into Wilco's set, much as I like them.

Tenuously enough, Billy Bragg packed more of a wallop for me.

Not too big on Wilco meself. Saw them in Co. Kildare three years ago (I think) and they were good, not great. Then at Primavera Sound they didn't do much to change my mind, though I was watching them from way down the back.

    Maybe they're better on album.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭aurel

For me anyway Wilco are a slow burn type of band. You would be better spending time with the albums for a while before seeing them. Then again maybe they're just not you're cup o tae. I loved them at Primavera and am really hoping they are playing EP

Wilco are playing dates in smaller U.K. venues in November. It isn't announced on their website yet but the wilco message board http://forums.viachicago.org has all the links to it. No news yet on a potential Irish gig

They're already on sale - in Sound Cellar at least. My girlfriend went in on Friday to get tickets for another gig and also got two tickets for Wilco. 14th and 15 November, Vicar St. €40 a go. She actually got numbers 1 and 2... Freakin' sweet I think.

Thats pretty hilarious it was done like this though its nice to see them not sell out in 5 minutes. I dont actually care too much for Wilco but picked up tickets for the inevitable slew of my friends who'll be looking for some after it sells out.

Holy feck. Thanks to kage for sharing. Just got tickets for the thursday.

Just got some tickets. Nice to see Ticketmaster are charging over 12.5% service charge again.

    They deserve it!
