Also what the hell happened to N64, DS, and Gamecube VC games? Instead we get Wii VC games. Nintendo is so damn unpredictable...

Wii VC games I'd imagine are a much simpler affair. They've simply packaged the games to be able to run the Wii U in Wii mode, & exit to Wii U mode (asd the Wii U has native built in Wii backwards compatibility).

Nice one. I can finally pick up the Castlevania gba trilogy. Might skip Mario vs Donkey Kong though. Lost interest in the series when it focused on the minis.

Hard to argue with a tenner for SMT IV. :)

Yeah but that's the 3rd time this year that it's been at that price, hard not to think that - unless you're planning to crack into it immediately - that there's no rush.

Does the eshop ever have decent sales on main titles like Ocarina or any Mario stuff etc?

Not really, Nintendo doesn't do their own stuff cheap, CeX has Ocarina for €30 every now and then, on the whole it's always best to own hard copy Nintendo games especially the AAA titles like Ocarina imo.

I'm Curious why? I bought a 32gb card for my new xl and love the idea of not having to carry round carts anymore no matter how small they have gotten

I can't speak for Bandit but downloaded games are tied to your console rather than account. So if anything unfortunate happens to your XL then your games are gone (that's my understanding anyway). I prefer having physical copies of Nintendo games but that's just a personal preference.

(This post contains a spoiler. If I tell you what it's a spoiler for, that in itself is a spoiler. Don't look at the spoiler unless you've seen every film ever or don't like surprises)
    They're not gone-gone, at best they're just
    Gone Girl
gone - you will get them back but it's a long and terribly harrowing journey that will leave you and those around you changed, bitter, damaged.

Digital copies are essentially worthless to anyone but you, where physical copies of 1st party games hold their value for the most part. Unless you have a very compelling reason for going digital, if you're in this for the long haul the physical cart, being rugged and hard-wearing as they are, is probably the way to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Meh, I don't care too much about that as such personally. I do think that Nintendo, and everyone really, overprice digital compared to physical, but I have a 32gb sd in my XL also, and I'd rather just carry the console than one with multiple carts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,554 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

I have loads of AAA titles downloaded onto my XL as I got them free from Nintendo over the last few years through the club nintendo registration freebies, I still advocate having boxed versions of Bravely Default, Fire Emblem, Ocarina of Time though versus paying the extortionate prices Nintendo charge for them on the eshop, if a game is on sale check instore prices first as the sale might not be all it's cracked up to be.

Beware on Xenoblade you will need an 8gb card or higher to download it as it is larger than 4gb.

    Coming this Thursday
    Wii U eShop

Affordable Space Adventures (KnapNok Games, €18.99 / £16.99) - A collaboration between KnapNok Games and Nifflas, this Wii U exclusive makes full use of the GamePad for intuitive controls in which you both fly and manage a spaceship's complex systems. Well suited to solo play or co-op for up to three players, this title oozes quality and care from the developers, with an atmospheric and challenging puzzle adventure on offer. We gave this a strong recommendation in our Affordable Space Adventures review.

Guac' a Mole (Madskull Creations, €3.50 / £3.19) - A new release we know little about at this stage, though it promises "a beautifully hand-drawn visual style and retro-styled soundtrack", while gameplay sounds like a twist on Asteroids in which you rotate the planet itself. We'll try to save the world for a review soon.

    3DS eShop

    Pokémon Rumble World
(The Pokémon Company, free) - The latest free-to-play experiment arrives for this latest entry in the relatively simplistic 'mon brawling series, in this case including small toy versions of every 'mon (and Mega Evolution) seen in the main series so far. It'll be interesting to see how the mechanics of free-to-play and microtransactions come together in this one, and we'll bring you a review soon. Available from 10am local time on 8th April.

Quell Memento (CIRCLE Entertainment, €3.99 / £3.19) - The second entry in this series of relaxing puzzle experiences to arrive on the 3DS eShop, this has over 160 stages and introduces new elements and objectives to the existing 'zen' formula. We rated this very highly in our Quell Memento review.

I wish they would put decent games on sale. These were on offer not too long ago.

Nintendo Download: 7th May (Europe) c/o NintendoLife

    Wii U Virtual Console
Yoshi's Island DS (Nintendo, €9.99) - Nintendo extends its DS download collection in Europe with this typically colourful Yoshi adventure. It has many of the standard features you'd expect of a Yoshi game, and we quite enjoyed it in our Yoshi's Island DS review.

    Wii U Retail Download
Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush (Nintendo, €35.99 if you own another Kirby download on the same NNID, otherwise €39.99) - This latest Kirby adventure continues some of the gameplay ideas seen in the 2005 DS title Canvas Curse, this time utilising the GamePad screen. It's utterly charming, as expected, and features co-op support for buddies that fancy playing as Waddle Dee and enjoying the gorgeous visuals on the TV. We enjoyed this, though also had some reservations, and you can get the full assessment in our Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush review. Available from 8th May.

    Wii U DLC
The following tables and packs will be available in Zen Pinball 2, as trials or full purchases.
Zen Pinball 2: Iron & Steel Pack (free or €4.99) - includes the CastleStorm and Wild West Rampage tables.
Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron (free or €2.99)

    Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Puddle (Neko Entertainment, €1.99 until until 14th May, normally €6.99)
TNT Racers - Nitro Machines Edition (Keen Games, €4.99 until 21st May, normally €7.99)
Suspension Railroad Simulator (Joindots, €7.19 until 21st May, normally €7.99)
SteamWorld Dig (Image & Form, €4.49 until 28th May, normally €8.99)
Trine Enchanted Edition (Frozenbyte, €8.99 until 21st May, normally €12.99)
    Trine 2: Director's Cut (Frozenbyte, €8.49 until until 21st May, normally €16.99)

    Wii U eShop Demo
    Trine Enchanted Edition (Frozenbyte, free)

    3DS Retail Download
Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition (Nintendo, €29.99) - In a deal that certainly offers reasonable value, we have both the original 3DS iteration of the franchise and the Nintendo's Mario version in one package. Blending match-three combo making with elements of RPGs and adventure games, you have to battle through stages (or a quest depending on which game you're playing) to save the world or Princess. Essentially two games for the price of one, we'll let you know what we think in a review.

    3DS eShop Temporary Discounts

Is Kirby getting good reviews? I got the last one. About 4 worlds in and finding it very hard to keep interest.

I can't get into Puzzles and Dragons - tried it on my phone, really don't like the way the Match 3 game works. The only match-style game I like less is the Pokemon one. Oh, Ninty, why!

Does the new Kirby support Off-TV?
