the reason i ask is because my mate just got a nissan skyline 2.5 turbo 400bhp, the power was unreal compared to my 110 hp focus:) i could feel myself been pushed back into the seat ad he accelerated feeling the power was unreal.

Ive driven a skyline turbo too, dont think it was 400bhp tho.. they are absolute beasts tho.. knock the s**t out of most BMW's/Merc's etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Squirrel

I've been driven in a Ferrari 360 Spyder, that was special. But of a car I've driven, probably was limited to 155mph. I worked for an Audi dealer so drove a fair few of the 4.2 V8's, and as far as I know, they're limited

I did a speedrun in a 3 door Sierra Cosworth at Bruntingthorpe (an airfield), Leicestershire a few years ago.

The car was uprated to 330bhp and we broke the timing lights at over 170mph.

    Pretty quick.

The 2.5 single turbo is about the 230bhp mark so far as I know. The 2.6 twin turbo GTR (R33 and R34) is about 276bhp standard.
    @ Irish1 - we have a winner!

Spent a weekend in the new BMW M5 507 Bhp, me, the SMG gearbox, and a rapidly depleting tank of fuel. Well worth it though.

Jaguar XKH and an Audi S3 modded with Induction kit, ecu remap and dump valve. first time in a car with 6 gears .. and one that would push you into the seat.

Drove a Suzuki SV650 though with a race exhaust system and that was alot more exhilerating ... v-twin engines make a lovely noise ...

Yeah I really drove it, had it for an afternoon in Italy a couple of years ago. It was owned by Mercedes U.K. and was used as a pace car or something on the Mille Miglia rally. I was doing back up at the event and grabbed the opportunity, even though I wasn't driving it on it was an amazing car in every respect.

Never drove anything super-fast, the acceleration in the old 900 turbo was a hoot though.

The fastest I've ever driven was a full hour at 200+km/h on the autobahn (Audi A4 1.8, pedal to the metal) ...very, very draining ...the concentration is unbelievable.

Boss's 911 Carrera 2 was probably the fastest car I've ever driven but had a go of his TVR 3000S and it felt quicker, but probably because of the open top, the noise and the 15 year old brakes!

Yet to drive a car that felt(was?) as fast as my old GSXR400R though.

As regards cars that are limited: I understood the spirit of this thread to be what fast cars you have driven, not how fast you have driven them. While an M5 is limited to 155mph out of the box I would still consider it a faster car than many that can do >155.

I think Junkyard has pretty much everyone beat though.

Fastest I've ever driven is a 2.2 litre Honda Accord... diesel :o
Fastest I've ever been a passenger in, though, is an R33 Skyline GT-R V.spec. God that thing was an animal. It felt like someone was forcing you into the back of the seat when it accelerated.

For me its a toss up between a 305bhp 2006 BMW 740i or a 2003 Golf GTI chipped to 230bhp, which felt fatser than the BMW but probably wasnt. They arent too impressive compared to some people here, especially the SLR, but I'm only 20:o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,352 ✭✭✭plonk

Bmw 330ci or lexus ls400-- which felt pretty damn quick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,892 ✭✭✭Kersh

    The quickest accelerating was this..

    scan0005.jpg

The highest speed was this 400+ bhp 300zx tt , unfortunately I sold it..

    vee025.jpg

Similar quick car which i still have, only 360 odd bhp..

    Zed1.jpg

And a 911 sc and Ferrari 308 Gtb , neither of which is quicker than the above..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,084 ✭✭✭dubtom

Nothing exotic, my mustang feels fast but won't go over 120 mph. The fastest I've ever been driven was 145 mph in a honda accord aerodeck with 5 people in it, that was in the early 90's and scarey.

Buddy of mine's building a Z car, classic MINI body, CF Roof, Bootlid, and Bonnet, Civic VTec Type R tuned to 250 brake. He'll have it by the end of May for about 28k euro. Should be a hoot!

A 5.2 V10 450BHP Audi S8 in Mondello Park last Autumn. Handles in a way you would not expect from such a big car.

The fastest (and most fun) I have driven was 93mph in a 1.0l micra on a gravel road. The car had road tyres, and I couldn't hit the brakes, as the back of the car was moving around the road so much! The long right corner at the end of the straight was taken at 75-80mph, with oversteer all the way.... (induced to aovid understeering into a tree)

    That was fun!

The fastest Driven on public road was 80mph on a motorway (dull on public road, madman on private roads)

If you want serious acceleration for under €4,000 that will beat anyone at the lights, just get one of these:D

it looks like the best car so far was the SLR.And im second :)

4 wheels is just 2 too many, "fastest" thing I've been on is a cr125 motocross, ur average speed durin a race might only be 50mph, but it feels faster than any car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭natnif

I drove a holden monaro in melbourne a few yrs ago...VERY fast car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,454 ✭✭✭tc20

Just shy of 140mph in a Mk3 Golf VR6 on the autobahn. Didnt feel so fast.
But on the back of a Fireblade (friend driving) doing 140+ on the autobahn, now that was fast

VMax? Yes, then you come to a corner, and it's all t*ts up. Buy a blade for that money, or an early Blackbird. They'll accelerate faster, and actually go around corners without a week's written notice.

New Volvo S80 V8 AWD 4.4ltr not too sure on the BHP but a class drive.

There was one in the country November for testing and it made its way round the dealers, a mate bought one (2.5 on order) and had this out for two days. I am going to be honest here and had it at 135 in little over 10 seconds. It had plenty more in it but not enough road and scared the bejesus out of me.

Ferrari 360, but for something I actually owned myself, my Celica 190

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭leon8v

Not sure which was the fastest but the quickest ones I have driven in no particular order are a 460bhp MTM RS4, E39 BMW M5 and I drove my own Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo across Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭pm.

from all the cars mentioned i think id go for the m5, when unrestricted it will do 220 mph and for such a big car thats just mad ted.
