Photography & photoshop day

Just thought I'd throw this out and see if anyone was interested.

I know this was mentioned at the Charleville trip but I haven't heard anymore on it. Would anyone be interested in meeting up for a photoshop tutorial day. I don't mean having a tutor but more for anyone that has some tips they can pass on and to see other peoples workflow in PS.

It could start with some shooting in the morning followed by PS in the afternoon/evening. I don't mind hosting it in my house plus Balbriggan has plenty of photo opportunities. The only things needed would be some laptops as I only have the 1 pc.

Let me know what you think (or if its just a dumb idea)

Well I'm the kind of dork who'll be bringing my laptop up on the 18th

That sounds good to me. I really need to start getting out on these trips. Just ordered my 30D today :D

sounds good -- my concern would be the different levels people are at !
I'm a complete beginner, trying to wean off picasa , and there seams to be a few experts here -- would a beginers day be an idea for those lookin to grasp the basics .. layers , image sizing etc .

I'm up for this, any chance to further my knowledge, and i'm at the same lvl as baz, i know a few features of ps, but i have no idea when or where to use them.

Brilliant Idea, I have no laptop atm though (a ruggerized one planned for the near future but none atm :()

I'd be up for that, have laptop (plus an old crippled one spare if required) and would be happy to share some basic techniques...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

I'm up for sharing what I know anyways.

We'd been trying to get something like this going for a good while now, I'd say it should be a laugh.

    Obligitory drinks afterwords too...

i deffo would be on for this , regardless of my beginner status -- have a laptop though !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

If dates work I'd go! One decent and maybe one not so decent spare laptop..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Ummm, how big is your place, Darren? ;)

Yeah sounds good esepcially if there is a bed involved too ;);)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Ok, so it looks like this wasn't a dumb idea :)

We have to think about dates then. I think elven's meet is on the 25th February so how about some time in March or before the meet above?

Theres plenty of room in my house as it's just shared by me and my dog at the moment. Everyone is welcome. There is plenty of floor space if needed for overnighters (there is a guest room which will be given to the highest bidder :p )

The kilmainham one is on Sunday 18th feb, only a week and a bit away. I'm planning to get my mum over for the weekend at the start of march so don't do it then, please!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

This sounds good - I can do the 18th too but not the 25th - could we tie them in together ? Do the kilmainham thingie then afterwards use those pictures for the photoshop thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,770 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

Darren -- would the 18th (next week !) be ok for you ? -- since your the host !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,775 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Is it too late to put your name down for this...? Will be in Dublin for a couple of weekends over the next month or two. Am pretty much a beginner to photoshop too, only have an old version. Somewhere in the middle as regards photography... :D

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The 18th should be fine but it might be a bit of a trek for some people to get to Balbriggan after elven's meet. There is a train station close to me if that helps.

    Lets see what others think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

I wouldn't be able to do both on the same day I don't think? It usually takes me most of the day to get around IMMA and I've never even been to the jail, so I was planning on giving it all the daylight I could. How long of a journey is it out to Balbriggan by train?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭elven

Tis on a sunday too - would be easier to have the photoshop one on a saturday, then people don't have to get up for work work the next day...

Would also be nice to actually do some shooting on the beach up in balbriggan, too.

I'd love to get some tips for photoshop ,I just need to see someone actually using it so I know how to approach it:(

boo i'm takin pics in dundrum that day, would it be on past 4? i'd be free then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭Xios

Balbriggan is quite the trek, anyone care to offer a lift up there? And back to the goal, i can get a bus home from there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

To be honest the 18th doesn't really suit me now. I think we should leave it till March. Maybe the 10th or 18th (bank holiday on Monday 19th).

If anyone wants we could head to Ardgillan Castle. Some fantastic views from the Castle Demense. There is plenty around Balbriggan beach as well.

Well I'm up for it whenever we kick off. Have laptop will travel.

    Seb.

    Agreed.

Hey Darren. I'd be up for this if I can convince the other half to let me out for the day :D Also I'd be driving so I could bring anyone in the general D15 area as well that had no transport?

Btw..I mostly post on Photography Ireland under the nick Expresbro..in case you're wondering who the hell I am (actually you're probably still wondering..;) ).

Oh and I have a laptop as well. Might even have my D80 by then too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭countryjimbo

I'm really interested in taking part, don't have a laptop but may be able to borrow one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Ok, I'm going to nail a date down - March 10th.

This should give everyone plenty of time to plan ahead for the day. We will start with taking some pics around Balbriggan and then head over to my place for photoshop clinic.

    All welcome!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,775 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Will plan on being in Dublin for that weekend then. Many thanks for arranging, Darren.

Just a bump to remind people this is just over 2 weeks away.

March 10th in Balbriggan. I will give a meeting point closer to the day but there is plent of parking around the town (paid parking but very cheap) and the train station is beside the beach/harbour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

Won't be there, sorry Darren. Going to France shopping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭bovril

Can't make it sorry, my services are required as a Hen party member that weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,763 ✭✭✭Fenster

I'll be up again on Wednesday evening, anyone who has a floor I can sleep on is welcome to my not-so-extensive knowledge :]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

Oh hope to make it to this one and astound everyone with my stupendous ignorance towards the one they call PhotoShop.

    Seb.

Still on here. I assume we're talking March 10th as opposed to Paddy's Day Weekend...?

    I'll still on for the 10th :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

Should be able to make the 10th here too. Is the castle a ruin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

No the castle is in good condition. It's approx 10 min drive from Balbriggan but well worth the trip if people are interested.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

Sounds good then! I'll have to figure out transport (might have a car on the road by then), but it should all be fine. Its my birthday weekend too :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,059 ✭✭✭Dara Robinson

10th is fine for me too. You can count me in.

I live in the southside (Sandyford) so if anyone driving up from my area would be able to provide a lift I would greatly appriciate it.
And unfortunatly I wont have a laptop by then (unless there is a mirracle, yea right  )

I have to be in Dublin on Monday (12th) morning first thing and I'd like to make it to the Photoshop day, so I guess I can make a weekend of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

wouldnt mind tagging along... Can I justify driving to Dublin two weekends in a row?

Only obstacle now is that I dont have a copy of photoshop for the laptop :D Anyone want to donate a license?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,775 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Ah! Thank you! I'm not the only one. Was a bit embarrassed to admit it :o .

Nah, I do have a limited version of Photoshop 5. But hey - nothing ventureed....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Excellent, the more the merrier. Guest room is still up for grabs if anyone is interested. You will be vetted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,763 ✭✭✭Fenster

    Guest room, eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,775 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock
