Will this routine shrink the belly?

    Hi,

I'm 6'3" and 16 stone which apparently gives me a bmi of 28. I'm quite well built but have a belly I'd like to get rid of. I'd like to get down to 14/14.5 stone and get reasonably toned.

My main form of exercise is cycling to work, I started a month ago, it's a 17 mile round trip daily, I also play indoor soccer once a week. I'm generally not hungry in the morning so tend to not bother eating until lunchtime, have a sandwich then and generally a home cooked dinner in the evening. I don't drink much.

Is this likely to reduce my weight, well actually, I know it will reduce my weight overall as I'm using more calories than I'm taking in, my question really is, will it reduce my belly or do I need to do more specific exercise for that? Would I be better off eating something in the morning even if I'm not particularly hungry?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

your diet sucks, if you spread you eating over 5-6 meals during the day you will help to keep your metabolism higher making weight loss more efficient. read the stickies on the top of the forum

You can't 'spot reduce' - meaning you can't specify an area of your body for fat reduction. It just comes off across your whole body. But a big cycle like that every day will deffo help you lose the weight. You should eat in the morning... but you will shift the fat even quicker if you cycle into work on an empty stomach. Make sure to take it easy. Then have something like porridge when you get into work.

    No worries.

Make sure you do actually eat in the morning, dude! I didn't emphasise that enough. Porridge is the king of breakfasts. Lots of carbs. Have less carbs as the day goes on, so that you're having some carbs with your lunch and little, if any, starchy carbs with your dinner.
Go for brown rice, wholewheat pasta and sweet potatoes over their white brethren. Fill up on fibrous veg so that you're not still hungry after dinner.

Try to get out for a 3-5km run twice a week. Give it a few weeks and your belly button will soon revert from outty to inny.

Along with porridge i highly recommend you try Quinoa and Millet, they can be purchased in any healthfood shops for nothing. When cooked they both have a rice like consistancy,a good change over from potatos.

I dop 50 lengths of the 25 m pool most days a week, along with weights.
My belly is not where it should be and does not seem to change at all.

Im now getting the impression that some how the breast sroke is not doing anythiong to reduce it.

    Does this seem right?

We're in pretty good shape for this time of the year. Better than usual in some respects. Only problem is we don't know much about the Exiles so we can't really say whether we're ready for them. Best we can do is be as prepared as possible. It should be an interesting game, though.

Sweet. Just like in most things all you can do is bring you came and make them deal with it! I'll be keeping an eye on how you guys do! Shame i never got to try out but that knee injury haunts me to this day!!! Maybe next season! :)
