Going back to the original post there is actually a catch. There are many brands that are classed as "grey goods" which use various trickery to get low prices at trade (hence low prices online). There are a couple of brands of guitar that I know about (which I'm not going to mention) that because of the fashion they are purchased class as second hand when they are sold, thus meaning the warranty is non-existant. If you buy one of these brands from Thomann and have a problem a few months down the line your going to have to foot the bill for it where as if you went into your local shop and bought it at their best price (and all guitar shops will let you haggle) then although you'll be paying a little more you'll be able to take it back when there is an issue and they will get it sorted for you and you wont have to pay carriage on returning the thing.

Also, when you get a guitar don't you like to play it first? You can try a guitar in a shop and love it but there is no guarantee that one off the net is going to play anywhere near as well, or even be in mint condition when you get it. Then you'll need to set it up which will cost you unless you can do it yourself to make sure it plays well, and after all that messing about wouldn't have it just been better to get it from a shop? And please don't say you try guitars out in your local shop with a plan to get them online. They aren't libraries.

Gentleman. Do you work for one of the Irish Music outlets?

Dammit Savman. How did you get there before me! :D

LOL! Savman & Quattro beat me to the exact post i was going to make:D

So, instead i'll just answer a few of you comments.

-Warranty. Means squat usually, you arent entitled to a manufacturers warranty by law, if they choose to offer one it is usually by a warranty card which needs to be returned with proof of purchase. If an online house like Thomann are dealers of a particular brand, the warranty will be just as valid if it was bought here. Not to mention the fact that thomann offer their own 3-year warranty as standard. And of course are subject to all legal requirements in regards to sales of good & supply of services act (or Euro equivalent).

-Stuff off the net is usually untouched in its original, unopened box. There is no reason why it wouldnt be 'mint' unless it was damaged in transit, which is covered by insurance.

-Setup. Meh, i wouldnt pay a huge premium for something i can do myself, and tbh, i dont hold irish shop-setups in very high regard anyway.

i ordered an elec drumkit for my friend 2 weeks ago, (he's scared to use his own comp cause he thinks virus's want to steal his credit card info)

www.musicstore.com is my main supplier, I'll only use Thomann if I really have to, many issues with them over the years.
