TV3/Discover Ireland

I know this has been raised before, but TV3, as usual, are excluding Waterford from the weather reports. This was bad enough at night, but it has now spread to the Ireland AM programme, when only one screen is displayed.

To cap it all off this website:

    http://www.discoverireland.com/gb/experience-ireland/city-breaks-experience/

must take the biscuit. It is truly maddening.

Wow, its really the little things that piss you off :D

Its not like its the end of the world to be honest, have you perhaps e-mailed TV3 regarding their choice to ommit Waterford from its weather coverage.

I don't watch TV3 myself but I'm happy as long as Kilkenny is on it ;)

I know loads of Dubs and Waterford doesn't really register in their 'subconcious', not in the same way Wexford or KK do at any rate. Perhaps thats the reason for Waterford's exclusion?

Point taken. And yes - I have e-mailed TV3. But, as always, there will be no response. But if it was the other way round, and say, Mullingar was included instead of Kilkenny, I'd say you lot might have something to say then. ;)

All joking aside, while it may appear small, it represents the thinking inside the Pale towards Waterford City. It is, IMO, very disrespectful towards us.

It is all about exposure and promotion Cabaal. And equality. Three things we receive very little of in Waterford City - the oldest city in Ireland.

it really is a joke in my opinion, I noticed it ages ago aswell.
5th largest city in Ireland and that doesn't warrant a mention on the weather report. Hopefully it will come back to bite them in the arse, somehow :D

get a peitiion going and send it to the advertisers stating we the undersigned will not be watching any programmes on TV3 until Waterford City is put back on the map.

get WLR and Timmy Ryan to back it and ask Waterofrd people to bycot TV3.

See how the advertisers react to TV3

Nothing like the talk of the weather around the town, random punters in the pub swearing with their life on there being a feckin meteorite shower the following day. good fun though :)

KK is a far more important part of the country anyway so that can be reason number one but also Met Eireann have 13 weather monitoring centres & KK is one of those.

For the record the 13 are Belmullet, Birr, Casement, Claremorris, Clones, Cork, Dublin & Shannon Airports, Malin Head, Mullingar, Rosslare & Valencia & the greatest one of all in KK City.

haha some coincidence you mention this Freddie. I received an email pointing this out to me this morning, so I rang Discover Ieland (well it was actually Tourism Ireland) and they they got back to me and said they would add Waterford as a city, that they are working on it now and it should be ready in the next day or two. :)

I admire your pride, sure, but I'd like to see you back that statement up with a few concrete facts :p

Let's see, a Met station and a nice tally of All-Irelands, for starters... what else?

Don't worry lads, we have an automated station up at Tycor, provides endless entertainment for the disaffected hoards with nothing better to do than vandalise it.

    Well Psych.

That's gas alright. But as I've said already we got the result. www.daft.ie also had us excluded from the City list. Following a quick e-mail (to which they responded very nicely) we're now on it.

Pity TV3 were not as mannerly.

    Freddie.

Don't worry about that, sometime in the near future we'll have encroached into Kilkenny so far that it'll be a waterford station! :D

Ok lets not start this ****e again, you know that neither side will win or back down so just leave it

Hell I'm from Kilkenny but I'm not going to start this **** here because in the end Waterford think their great and we think we're great so nobody is going to win this bloody pointless argument.

We don't care where the weather stations are, we want to know what the weather will be like in Waterford.

As for KK being far more important, there are probably places on the internet you could write that without getting laughed at, but I don't believe here is one of them. :D

Jesus I'm sure the people of Waterford are so envious of us and our crappy little weather station:rolleyes: and mentions on TV3 weather that nobody even watches!

I would gladly trade the weather station (2 employees max) for Waterford IT or Reg Hospital! Any takers? Didn't think so...

Just to be serious for a moment, Waterford does'nt need a station. Rosslare covers the South East costal zone while Kilkenny town covers in South East interior. As anyone who ever travelled from the coast to Kilkenny will know the climate can be quite different esp during high pressure. in winter its fupping freezing, in summer stifling hot.

Well thats cause Kilkenny City and county are an inland county so it works that way :)

I know that! Thats why they have a station there and in Rosslare and not in Waterford.

The thing that always amuses me about the usual Waterford "the Dublin meeja are ignoring Waterford as a city in its own right (boy)" is this: if you, as a non-Waterford person, cross the bridge into Waterford city, you will be reminded at every opportunity that you are not a native and that you don't belong there and you will continue to be reminded of that fact till you cross the bridge on the way back out. But then the same "welcoming" people whinge about people not giving Waterford the credit for being the modern city it is. Can anyone else see the contradiction here?

I agree, and it's a phenomenon I hate among my fellow Waterfordians! (friendly slagging excluded - let's have a sense of humour)

But how are we any different from the likes of Dublin or Cork?

"Ah, jaysus buud, dem cuulchies dawent knaw how te druive, fooksayek!"

    or...

"Aroo fram Cark baay? No? Den you're a langer and I'm a ligind! We bech'ee in de semi final baay!"

That page is a right mess. The original link added a piece on Waterford under Kilkenny. The Areas & Cities have Waterford & Kilkeny under "South". They didnt list a few places as cities. Talk about un-organized and messy!

OK I sent an email onto Discover Ireland, as this is disapointing. We pay them enough to get our B&B listed, and they fail to mention Waterford city in places.
This would be the second time I have had to contact you regarding your lack of knowledge of Ireland. You claim to be a website where you can "Discover Ireland" yet time and time again you fail to mention Waterford City (you know, Ireland oldest city and fifth largest city) in
descriptions of places in Ireland (you do of course, mention the majority of other places including Kilkenny) AND to top it of you have failed to list Waterford (and other cities)
in the drop-down box (never mind the page content, which is a complete disaster) titled
    "Places to Stay".

I think its time management and the web development team of Discover Ireland educated themselves and then reviewed the website to ensure that the websites information is as accurate as possible, and to area / city is left out from any section.

How are tourists supposed to tour Ireland, or "discover" it - if you fail to provide proper
    information?

I expect an immediate response to this, as my last contact with you went on ignored.

    Regards,
    Kevin O'Sullivan

I presume these guys are publicly funded.. a letter to the Public Accounts Committee I think is in order to ask why is this lot wasting my hard earned tax money by not getting the basics right.....

Also a letter to Dept of Education to find out what studets are being taught in school with regards to the five cities of this State.

A couple of geography teachers should be fired for this on going fiasco

I received a response; here is the text:

    "Thank you for your email.

It would appear that your main concern is that waterford is not on all
our maps. TV3 uses a variety of maps with a variety of urban populations
marked. It is not practical for all maps to have all urban populations
    on them.
    "

I replied, pointing out to them that Waterford is not just an arbitrary urban population, but one of the 5 major cities in the state. Probably news to them.

Are there any TV3 shareholders from Kilkenny by any chance?

Update on DiscoverIreland.com They've now included Waterford on the following link:

    but not on this one:

It should possibly be called www.discoverirelandexceptwaterford.com

I just viewed the weather on TV3 with the intention of writing to the main sponsor.. But guess who spopsors TV3 weather

yep the most evil Kilkenny company, Avonmore... no doubt the conspiracy theorists will say that this is their handywork

Avonmore have shut down all the waterford foods companies except for Snowcream which I believe is next to face the axe and moved them to their production facilities in Kilkenny..

it might be just co-incidence.. but I doubt it somehow
