Those nice people at GiftMaster contacted me about possibly sponsoring a boards poker tournament with a prize.

They said they're opening new showrooms in Athy in February and are also concentrating on their internet sales. www.giftmaster.ie
Since the poker forum opened here on boards GiftMaster (prev known as Special Days) have been very generous in giving us free stuff as prizes and also giving boards members discounts in their shops for all kinds of poker stuff.

    This time:
Anyhow, our top new product will be a solid birch professional casino poker table and in order to launch a whole range of new product and a new dedicated site for tournament organisers, i'd be happy to supply one of these as a prize for any competition you may have coming up. (stock arriving end of April) - Value = €1199

So how's about we have a $30-$50 online tournament ($5 rebuy?) amongst poker forum members with a hefty chunk of the prizepool going to www.onepercentpledge.com or whatever suitable charity. Whoever finishes first gets the table.

Tribeca or PokerStars seems the most obvious sites since Mike might be able to create a tourney there, or Stars lets you create your own.
Dunno how to sort out the prize pool skimming for charity or any of that stuff so maybe Ste05 or someone with that knowledge could chip in.

This was off the top of my head so if you have any other ideas fire away.

Sounds like a great idea. Hopefully you can do it on tribeca....... if so id be game ball. €5 rebuy with all the initial €5 goin to charity? maybe ROE of HORSE for the craic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

Tribeca: Mike might be able to set it up on GJP, dunno if possible to make it network wide though. How do we stop non boards people playing?

Stars: Make it a $50 freezeout with $20 transferred to some trustworthy boards person and $30 into the prizepool. It works because the tournament can be passworded and only boards people can be given password and person taking names can keep a list of boards peoples Stars names.

    Sounds like a good idea.

I don't mind whether it's Tribeca or Stars, although I'd prefer Stars for the better structure, but I'm certainly easy either way.

On Stars there's nothing I can do about the prize pool. So Laf would be right about the idea of creating say a $20 or $30 tournament and then pay someone $20 or whatever for the password to get in.

EDIT: Or create a $10 MTT and $20 for the password, etc. but there's no real way to alter the payout structure on Stars and certainly no way to skim it.

Are you crazy. We might as well just ship the table to ianmc now! :) But I like the ROE idea.

I'm in for any format, any game, but I'd prefer Stars as well.

I'd also be interested, depending on when....and I would prefer Tribeca.

Seconded (or thirded, after Marq). As an alternative, does anyone know if we could have a private round-of-each (hold 'em and omaha) tourney on Full Tilt?

To be fair, most of boards consists of NLH players. I know there are a good ew Omaha players too... but if I was to draw one of those UNION circles it would all be clear. Omaha players can play NLH but not vice versa..

If we wait until the migration to playtech then I can set up an invite only tournament on GJP with a customised starting stack/structure and also set the Payout structure / charity contribution.

We could also donate a set amount per new sign up to charity as it is likely we could end up making money from any new converts.

Definately up for this. $30-$50 FO preferably, and on Stars if its going to be before the tribeca migration to Playtech. If it can wait til Tribeca has the new software, then either will do fine.

Happy with it being NLHE, PLO or HORSE really.

everyone starts with $0 and has to beg as much money as possible on the major poker sites (ones with p2p transfer) in 24 hours. If you do get some money you can try and spin it up, but if you finish with less than $10 you owe $50 to the charity. All of the takings go to charity. Best beggar gets the table.

When I win this outright I will, in a show of kindness, split the first prize with the runner up.

I bags the four legs & the cloth....

Special Days kindly offer to donate an expensive table for "any kind of competition we like" and all you retards can think of is "oooh should we have a freezeout or a rebuy?"

Instead I volunteer myself to take charge of this issue. There will be a €50 entrance fee and then some test of skill and chance to decide the champion., and the money will go to charity Once I have all the entries I'll announce the details.

We all give 50 to an account on pokerstars. We then release the winner of this thread on the account for 4hrs and we all take guesses on how much he'll spin it up to. The closest guess wins the table and any money goes to the charity.

I like this. But does it mean that the player can't be in the running for the table?

Nah, surely they could have a guess at how much they'd make. Its an interesting idea alright.

Lol, didn't half think that out (thats what a 9-5 will do to a person :()...though, we know theres only one cheat on Boards, or at least we can hope so...isn't that right,Mr Flibble? :p
Prefer the idea of a tourny tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,501 ✭✭✭BrokenArrows

id be up for this if your having a NLHE game.

It will all depend on the time of the tourne cause im in australia.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

Heres my suggestion (if people are up for a gamble).

Everyone who wants to participate pays $50.
If we get 20, thats $1K.
Winner of the other thread gets $650 of that to enter the Sunday Million on Stars, other $350 goes straight to onepercentpledge.
Every participant gets 1 guess at where the player will place in the tourny, except the player who can only take 1st place.

If the player should cash, a chosen % (by them) of the winnings goes to onepercentpledge. Nearest participants guess to actual placing gets the table.

It can be up to the player, if they're entering the million anyway and don't care for the buyin, then all entries by the participants can go straight to onepercentpledge.

    lol that's complicated rb_ie

I was thinking more that everyone here transfers me (or someone we all trust) $30-50 on Stars.
We then create a $1-$10 MTT the winner of that gets the table. Tourney prize pool is distributed as normal.

When you transfer the initial $30-$50 you get the tourney password and your boards name goes on a list so that only boards people are eligible for the table. All this money goes to charity.

    Does that make sense?

Yep, that sounds good to me.

I'd say 20 to charity and 30 to the prizepool. Maybe take 30 to someone we trust and distribute the last 10$ between 2nd-end of money places. That way the person who wins the table doesn't get a huge chunk of the money too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,501 ✭✭✭BrokenArrows

So whats happening with this. Is anything being arranged?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

Oops, totally forgot about this. I'll have a think and post later. It'll probably be a Stars $30 freezeout with $20 needed to get the password. All the $20's going to charity.

I'll pm the giftmaster.ie people and see what the current state of play is.

Here's a suggestion based on what we were discussing before:
Tournament costs 30+1. We have a 10$+1$ NL holdem tournament on stars.
20$ is transferred to someone trustworthy.
10$ of this goes to charity the other 10$ to the prizepool (but not for the table winner). Extra 10 is divided in same percentages as PS does.

So as an example. Say 20 runners and 3 places paid 50:30:20
    Pokerstars pay 100:60:40
    Extra 10$ pays: 0:120:80

So place 1 gets: 100$ and table
    place 2 gets: 60+120 = 180$
    place 3 gets: 40 + 80 = 120$
    and charity gets 200$

I think this is fairer as the winner doesn't get the bulk of the money as well! Thought?
