Katie Holmes NOT Appearing in Batman Begins Sequel...

It was announced on Latino Review today. Many people will probably be relieved, as she got a lot of criticism for her performance in Batman Begins. I'm disappointed though, I didn't think she was that bad and i hoped that she'd reappear in The Dark Knight in order to give Nolan's Bat-films more continuity compared to Burton/Schumacher ones, especially regarding female characters.
Apparently the character of Rachel Dawes does feature in the script, so does this mean they'll have to re-cast the part or will they just hastily re-write her out of the story?
It was also revealed that Matt Damon was offered the part of Harvey Dent which he turned down (thank God, the movie dodged a bullet there) hence the delay in announcing the casting of a character who will undoubtedly have a major role to play in the next two installments. The rumour is that Ed Norton and Jamie Foxx are be looked at by the filmmakers.
Finally, the Penguin WON'T be appearing in this film, thereby nixing the rumours that Philip Seymour Hoffman had been approached to play him. This doesn't necessarily mean he won't appear in the third film though, does it...?
And good news for fans of the comics is that they're casting for the role of a female cop, in her 30s and of Latin origin. Renee Montoya anyone?!

Great news for new batman flick, i dont like her at all.

Didn't like her in it at all, she is a better actress than she portrayed, her performance was a bit plastic or something...

she was axed from the sequel after begins came out. i guess this is just some sort of confirmation. she was axed because her personal life took away from the movies' good press (i.e. no one was asking about batman when her and cruise arrived on the red carpet)...

    she .was.terrible.

any news on Cillian Murphy returning?
was like one of the few good things about the first

I agree with the sentiments of her crapness. This is a good thing for the Batman films.

if this movie has cillian murphy , then along with the addition of heath ledger [possibly one of the greatest castings ever] i think it will be very disapointing if it doesnt better begins

To be honest Matt Damon does look a bit like Dent before the whole two-face thing. He is a golden boy. Also Damon isn't such a bad actor that it would detract from the film. He is more appropriate than choosing Jamie Foxx.

Ah that is a relief, with some luck she will vanish into wallyland with her wally of a husband......Pair of wallys!

Fantastic news... She was awful in that movie.

Didnt think much of Cillian Murphy either...he didnt cut it as a bad guy.
Hes good in certain roles, just not that one.

I liked Red Eye - thought both leads were very good.

Anyway, back on topic, it certainly seems that if Katie married Tom to help her career then it's having the exact opposite effect.

Will Adam West ever get a cameo?, a few seconds on screen is surely deserved, as camp as that show was it brought Batman to everyone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,208 ✭✭✭✭aidan_walsh

Not sure if that is deserved, as he has played enough "cameo" camp roles in other shows to make it up to the fans; e.g. "The Grey Ghost", Catman in Fairly Odd Parents, Return to the Batcave, and a few other I can't remember at the minute.

Of course this is good news. Now, what remains to do is kill the Rachel Dawes character off fairly quickly in The Dark Knight. The most obvious path being via the Joker (although very early reports suggest the Joker as wont make an appearance in full garb until the last third of the film. Kinda like Bats in Begins).

As for Harvey Dent, the role should go to Liev Schreiber. He has the chops and anyone who's read The Long Halloween or Dark Victory will realise Schreiber IS Dent... well, Tim Sale's Dent anyway. I hope Ed Norton doesn't get it. He's a fine actor, but he wants script control, and that should not be granted. After all, Norton's recent offerings haven't exactly been cinematic gold.

And they could bring out a book like "where's waldo" and inside it would be a white page with "who cares" written on it :p

Yeah not a bad move in fairness, wasn't great in BB.

Cillian Murphy I thought was great in the film.

If it's as good as BB then I'll be extremely happy.

I hope Foxx doesnt get cast in this, i dont rate him highly. Damon gets a bad rap undeservedly at times but i dont see him as harvey.

I say bring back lando for harvey's role! (did he try sue warner over being dropped from the original frachise?)

    Please not Jamie Foxx!!!!

It'd be very cool if Adam West got a cameo. Love "The Grey Ghost" episode too :)

Yes to ledger no to Foxx, Glad to see Kate and her character gone.
Keep it dark and everything will turn out fine

    Red Eye- Crap

    Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow- Gold

Katie Holmes- Rubbish. the most annoying 'actor' in current cinema, anything at all is better without her. for god's sake some solid female action talent would not go astray.

I thought Cillian Murphy was great in Begins. He's good in everything he does... Better Irish talent than Colin 'bleedin' Farrell! I was indifferent on Katie Holmes in that i didn't like her but i didn't let that ruin the movie for me... I don't think Damon would do too badly as Harvey but since he turned it down i just hope it goes to someone decent.

I thought Ryan Phillippe was cast as Harvey Dent months ago

No, but he had some kind of clause in his contract that they'd have to buy him out if they wanted to cast another actor. So while Tommy Lee Jones got cast in the 3rd film, Billy Dee Williams got well payed for it anyway. ;)

    whats the current relase date?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,792 ✭✭✭J.R.HARTLEY

summer (mid July) 2008 is the closest thing i've heard to a concrete date, on IMBD.com, but any project classed as in production is always subject to detail change, so don't put the house on it.

hence the current in my q lol

is there any diff writers or anyithng for this film [diff from begins]

Nolan's brother is helping out with the screenplay.

    Also, http://uk.movies.ign.com/articles/759/759276p1.html
With Katie Holmes now confirmed as not returning for The Dark Knight, and production set to begin in March, the search is on for a new actress to take over the role of Asst. D.A. (and Bruce Wayne's love interest) Rachel Dawes.

The rumor mill strongly suggests that the replacement will be Canadian actress Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, The Wedding Crashers). McAdams was rumored for the role a few months back, but now Batman-on-Film.com reports that her name has resurfaced once again.

The role of Rachel in the sequel, according to DarkHorizons.com, "will be very small, amounting to a few scenes at most."

McAdams has been rumored for different superhero films in the past, including Iron Man and Superman Returns.

She starred opposite the Scarecrow himself, Cillian Murphy, in Wes Craven's Red Eye.
    Hmmmm, Rachel MacAdams, eye-candy ;)

    ew
    i hate her!

Rachel Dawes was a decent enough character and had some pretty good lines... Holmes just made a total balls of the whole thing and didn't put anything into it.

It's a pity they missed the opportunity to have Ra's al Ghul's daughter Talia in the last film. I always thought she was one of Batman's more interesting love interests in the comics.

True, but she wouldn't really have been in keeping with the Ra's of the movie.

The rumour floating around now is Aaron Eckhart is up for the role. I could see that.

Definitely a better choice than Matt 'Poindexter' Damon.

Actually I think it was the other way around. It was a terribly underwritten, nothing part. Holmes is not much of an actress but she tried her best. It's Nolan's fault for not writing and directing the role better. Hopefully they'll just leave out the love-interest character for the sequel. It's unlikely though.

I liked BB but I hope they put a bit more effort into the script this time and Nolan needs to hire a good second unit director to do the action scenes.

To be honest I didn't think Holmes was that bad in B:B.
I think the producers don't want a Scientology camp on set at all times (as Cruise demanded when doing War of the Worlds). That's just an unnecessary complication.
