My reliable source has told me of a few, but not all of, amazing deals to begin with Sky on the 12th of Feb.

    1) Sky+ recordings will be free for everyone with a Sky+ box no matter what package they are on, i.e. 2 mix, etc
    2) The Sky+ box will be the standard box from then on. No more ordinary Sky box's.
    3) Multiroom subscription will drop
    4) He also told me they will be giving away something totally free for 6 months, but would not go into anymore detail for me.

This is only a few offers from the many they plan to have.

    Paddy

I'm glad to hear of Option 1. It's the biggest hold back on anyone getting Sky+

As for what's gonna be free for 6 months, I'd imagine maybe a Multiroom box and installation

Sky HD will be free for 6 months

    if only

This is good news. I have a multiroom card and got sky movies world pack because of the sky+ subscription (might aswell just 10e for movies w/o sky+ sub). So can drop the movies....

what makes you think sky will give the deal to existing customers ?

Are these offers for new or existing users ?

I too only got the movies to avail of the free recording. I have the movies 3 years now and the first time I watched a film on them was Christmas gone. At that I did'nt even watch the whole lot of it! All the recording is used for here is the soaps!! Such a wast of money.

I have no idea if this is only for new or exiting sub's. Hopefully we will all be tarred with the same brush!!

Also, why shouldn't we all be painted with the one brush? Aren't we all paying for the same thing....

Hah! Banks & Building societies regularly offer deals to new customers not available to exsiting ones.

    I may order a Sky+ shortly :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,177 ✭✭✭Lord Spence

I was just about to order Sky+ and then saw this phew I suppose I better hold off till the 12th of febuary just in case by some miracle Sky offer a deal to existing customers

    Good news, BP.
Any word on how much Multiroom will drop by? €10? €5? Completely? (I wish!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

    Including FTV/Freesat ????

Na, that means you still need a valid subscription. Sky would never let that happen, or it will take as many years for it to happen as it has taken the Sky+ charge to drop.

So does this mean that if you get Multiroom it will cost less than it does now AND you'll get a second Sky+ box for it? If so that sounds very tempting.

I would, bigpaddy has been right in the past with this kind of news.

I wouldn't mind the plus box if they would offer it to existing subscribers at a reduced cost..alternatively I wonder would I get a replacement plus box if my existing (non plus) one somehow developed a fault after Feb 12th..hmmm

Don't hold your breath for an Irish FTV system. I can't see it happening any time soon.

It may be just free for first 6 months, like givecredit mentioned.

Holy crap on a stick! This sounds good. I'm thinking they want people to get HD so drop the sub on Sky+ and everyone moves on to HD without paying more (apart from the HD box that is...) well it would work for me I can tell ya.

Still now I'm about to read the old posts in this thread and I bet I find info that bows a hole in my theory.

HD would still cost extra for those who had 2 or more premium channels

Yep your right but I would be dropping the movies as Sky+ would be free and it's the only reason I have them, so for me it would be the same. (Should have said that before eh?)

For what it's worth, when I upgraded to Sky HD and got Multiroom in the middle of last year, I specifically asked at the time of enquiring - "if you reduce the standard subscription price of HD or Multiroom after I have this installed, will you also give the reduction to existing subscribers."

The answer was "yes we will."

Sorry but these rumours are completely unfounded and untrue, we just wish they were true! I've checked with my contact (a director of Sky) and he has no information on such rumours, and can 100% say that these details are false.

Sorry to disappoint guys, be careful who you beleive :)

Christ Lads, does anyone know if these rumours are true or not!!
Reason i ask is moving house on Monday and dont know what to do about SKY.
Was going to get the missus to put Sky in her name to get this offer(if true) but dont know whether to tell them im moving or cancel now:(

Well its about time they gave something away free  , considering you have to pay to get it, but that's normal. Sky+ was introduced in '98, is the year im thinking of unless someone can tell me?

Cant wait to see if this offer is true, as someone mentioned in this forum b4 Christmas that Multiroom sub would be down or gone?

Here's a link i came across, to show you how ruthless they are!

It was actually launched in late 2001. Sky Digital was launched in 1998.

This was in today's Irish Times :
"24,000 new subscribers for Sky in three months - Ciarán Hancock"
    ...
Sky yesterday revealed plans to offer Irish viewers a "bonus mix" package. This will offer the seven Irish and British terrestrial stations available on Sky with two other "genres", which include news, music, children's television and documentaries, for €21.50 a month.

This is aimed at rivalling NTL's basic analogue pack of channels.

It is understood that Sky plans to target the Dublin area, where it lags its cable rivals. The satellite broadcaster has traditionally done well in rural areas not serviced by cable companies.
    ...

Of course sky are going to deny this they don't want sales to dry up completely while people wait for this new offer to come available. Based on Big Paddy's past record I am still hopeful this will happen.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see who's right.

As it's not far away, I'd expect to see some promo leaflets and stuff arriving soon.

Hey, i don't need to prove anything, on this occasion with these rumours i'd be happy to be proven wrong, as a price tag on Sky+ is what holds back a number of customers etc. However, i have a good contact in Sky who is high level management and i don't beleive he would keep this from me to help the risk of reduced sales whilst customers wait, they'd only do that directly to a customer, not an ASA!

I cannot deny that BigPaddy has provided some accurate predictions before, but things are not always that simple when you know things! :D

I wish it was true though, bring on Sky+ for everyone ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

I think the ANYTIME service is the service that will be free for 6 mths.
    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitaltv/a42296/feature-sky-anytime-tv-preview.html

RTE being available on lesser packages seems to be true ...
    http://www.enn.ie/frontpage/news-9880600.html

There seems to be some truth in the rumour about the scrapping of the Sky+ sub
    http://media247.co.uk/skydigital/newsarchive/2007/01/sky_subscriptio_1.php

The scrapping of the multiroom sub seems unlikely to me. A reduction seems more likely.
