I know the Charleville pictures haven't even been posted yet, but I've got my mojo back and would love to plan another wee trip out with some boardsies.

I haven't been to any of those places, and thought it might be a good day out to do one or all of them? Is there anyone else who hasn't been before and fancies it?

Would be nice to get in there during february, before they are completely crawling with tourists... ;)

Sounds like a good idea! Before the 20th of Feb though...I have to go over and back to Spain.

    I'll go :)

Never been to Kilmainham Gaol or Museum of Modern Art so I'll put my name down for this as well. Before the end of February would be perfect as I won't be around from the 25-28th.

Yeah I'd be up for that too! Haven't met any of ye yet so it would be a first:)

I would be into the kilmainham one or the museum one, once the date is set I will know for sure.

Woo, excellent response fellas :D Someone want to throw a date or two in for consideration? What about the weekend of the 17th/18th?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

I have about a million pics of IMMA, but its a really cool spot so I'm always ready to go again. I'm hanging my head in shame admitting I've never been to Kilmainham Jail, and haven't been to the war gardens in years. So count me in :)

As a matter of interest can you use a tripod in Kilmainham Gaol?

    T.

I was wondering that actually. Suppose there's a good chance you're not. Worth trying out a monopod, or even the string around the foot technique...

Count me in as well! I've already been to Kilmainham once, but I've been hoping I'd get the chance to make a return visit one day anyhow. (I have to say, a tripod would be tricky in there -- the corridors seemed very narrow and uneven to me in places.)

Not necessarily as part of this trip, but I can't resist suggesting Glasnevin Cemetery at some point as well, if anyone would be interested... from a photographic viewpoint it became probably my favourite place in Dublin, despite having to rush through it for an hour and missing half of it altogether. A place like that alone would reward a full day's exploration (bring your macro lens!), if you guys haven't had your fill of spookiness after the castle, anyhow... =)

The war memorial Gardens are one of the venues for my Weekend Beginners Course. We were there this afternoon (v. cold!).

In winter it's a very black and white kind of place and in summer the rose gardens on each side of the main garden are a riot of colour. It's so off the beaten track though that tourists and other Dubliners are rarely a problem in terms of numbers, any time of the year. Highly recommended.

I was going to suggest the War Memorial Gardens that Dave talks about.

However, I havent been to any of the places Elven mentioned either so I would love to be involved & hopefully get to.

I must admit, I always wanted to go up to Kimainham Gaol but looking through Noah's photos made me want to do it sooner rather than later ;)

Glasnevin is good for a wander round too - would it not be a bit strange though, a squad of 10 photographers trooping into a graveyard?! I felt weird enough just with me and Brian there before...

And I'm always up for a trip to the botanics. Think the next one for that would be best when the bulbs start coming up, although there is still a good bit of greenery to be found in the glasshouses.

Thanks for the tips about the memorial gardens, DB. Will need to consider shooting with BW in mind - would be a challenge for me.

So, how's the 17th or 18th sounding for people, then?

Count me in for that date ,I might get to the botanic gardens and cemetry before that.

Snap... literally. I've been on crutches ever since a rock climbing accident last June! With 3-6 months still to go. Really sucks. Just got a new 400d and am finding it hard to get out and about to take shots. Do you get out? I just find it waaay too cumbersome... camera, tripod, camera bag, GODDAM CRUTCHES... too much hassle...:(

Anyway, ill toddle up from the boglands for that.

hungover 18th would just make the whole day much more interesting, i'm up for that, and it gives those busy people a chance to get things cleared on saturday.
