Back in training after a long break - Question

I broke my leg last year playing soccer. Before this I was doing a lot of weights and put on a lot of weight and muscle over the previous year.

I have recovered from my injury and am now back in training.

A mate of mine said that when you start back training after a very long break (about 4-5 months) that the muscle will go back to the stage I had it at after about a month if I train hard ie it will be easier for the muscle to get as big as it once was, rather than than if I was starting from fresh.

True or a load of crap?

And can anyone recommend a squat that isnt really bad on the knees, cos one of mine is now fairly bad and dont want to make it worse?

Muscle memory - definitely easier to regain ground the second time around.

Regarding squatting with a dodgey knee, I would hope that no-one would give you an answer to that over the internet. Your best bet is to go to a sports injury clinic and book some sessions where they can assess your injury & posture and go through a few workouts with you watching your form etc. I went to one off of Kildare St. but I can't actually remember the name of it, Irish Sports Med Clinic or something like that?

What kind of break was it? I had a compound fracture of my fibia and tibula last janurary and im back training .My calf was emaciated but it definately was quick to rebuild.Thats the muscle memory t-ha was talking about.

Id defo recommend going to a physio,i had collapsed arches and he fixed them. Also gave me loads of excersises to rebuild my leg.Found it a great help!

Maxi Twist it was a tibial plateau fracture - the top part of the tibia where it joins up onto the knee.

I went to a physio after my leg break, about 8 sessions. it wasnt a sports clinic, just the regular hospital physio.

She had me doing squats with very light weights at the time, but i never asked her should i do them with big heavy weights.
She also gave me some other excercies to build my leg muscle back up, but they were easy excercies for people to biuld back up the muscle in the leg.

Im confident my knee if able to handle squats, but would just like to know which ones are easiest on the knee.

Anymore input on my original quastion? So its not a load of crap then?
