OK, so playing yesterday were Andy Black and Frank Cruise Callaghan. Andy made it through with 69k, above average, and Frank has something similar. So all good there.

Playing today were myself, Conor Doyle, Dave Callaghan and Simon Hennessy. All of us are gone bar Dave at this stage :( , who is well chipped on 46k. Somehow myself Dave and Conor all drew the same starting table, which was pretty tough. There was one fish there who was spewing chips from the first hand, but apart from that there was very little value.

The three of us started playing very solidly, and I won a small pot to go to 22k early. Then I called a guy down with 77 on JJ68K board, I had him on a flush draw which he had but he hit the K with it on the river. Wasn't a huge pot but I was back to starting stack. In the mean time Conor had lost a couple of small ones to go to 17k and Dave had made a great call to double up with 9T off for all his chips on a 6x9cTc flop, up against JcQc. This was all in the first level. Then Dave proceeded to be gifted the table donk's chips with AA on a Kxx flop, where the guy had called a big limp reraise from Dave and got it in with KQ on the flop.

Conor tried a big play with 77 on a straighting turn, which would have worked, only for a flush to come on the river. He bet, and the guy reluctantly called with a set, saying that if the flush hadn't come he would have folded but couldn't see why Conor would bet the straight with the flush there. So Conor was down to 5k, and was gone when I came back from a smoke break. Something about a flush draw vs AA, the details are sketchy!

Then it was level two, I was about even on chips, on roughly 19k or so, and then I played this hand. There was a persistent raiser directly on my right who limped in the cut off. I thought this was a bit strange, as he'd been raising from that position so often but had been reraised a few times and had to give it up. So I figured if he was strong he'd probably raise, anticipating the reraise, but the limp to me looked like something he didn't want to play to a reraise or maybe even a raise. Anyway I made it 1k with blinds 100 200 on the button with KJ suited. He flat called, flop 677, he checks, I bet 2k, he made it 5k. I really thought a push against this player would win the pot, but I gave it up anyway, for some reason, and he declared that he had 99 and would have folded to a push. I don't believe him necessarily, but my bet opened me up to a reraise which was my fault, so I misplayed that hand but was still fine on 16k or so. I had been playing VERY tight though, and was probably about 80% certain a push would work, but couldn't quite find it in me.

Then I limp with 7d8d, and the sb completes, a shortstacked Andy Bloch checks his option in the BB. checked around on a 59J flop, and the turn brings the T. Andy Bloch pushes for 2.5k or so, I call, other guy folds, he has J5 and hits a 5 on the river for a house. So down to 13.5k. Not much happens for a while now, I've found out that this table is to be broken and it's pretty tough so I decide to shut up shop for a while.

Table is broken, I have 13.5k, and get moved to a much better table. A guy manages to do a 25k stack calling all in with Ts8s on a 6s9xKs board, and there are a few players who look weak. Anyway I throw in a few raises with middle pairs/ decent aces from mid to late position and get reraised every time (blinds now 200-400) and I'm down to 9k. I limp with 77 utg, there is another limper and the button makes it 2k to go. The other limper folds out of turn and I decide to push. The raiser didn't look particularly strong and I'm fairly certain he'll fold, which he does. Then a couple of orbits later and I play a raised pot with 9hTh. I misplayed this hand and I'm the first to admit it. I think it was in my head that I'd given up a couple of pots earlier where I thought that a push would win it, but I had absolute air on all those occassions, so when the flop came down 8J3, I decided I was making a play. The other guy, who had just moved to the table a few minutes before, led out for 2.5k and I pushed for 9k. He called with AJ and that was that. Not entirely proud of the move, on reflection I definitely pushed because of the earlier hands I'd played when I think I could have won it with a push but didn't follow through because I had no outs in case I was wrong. On this occassion I wasn't nearly so certain that he'd fold, but pushed because of the outs I had. I still don't think it's a terrible move, he has plenty of folding equity and I have outs if I'm called, but I shouldn't have made it against an unknown. The biggest mistake is playing 9T to a raise preflop when short stacked.

Anyway I've got Conor and Simon to go out boozing with and forget about it, and Dave is still on 46k and well above average. Cheers for all the support from the backers as usual, I'll get to day two one of these days! I was fairly card dead over 6-7 hours of play to be fair, QQ being my best hand which I took down the blinds with, aside from that it was 88 and AK twice I think. Otherwise I had very little to work with and felt I played well on the whole despite my exit hand which was a mistake.

On the plus side Dave C, Andy Black and Frank Cruise Callaghan are all well chipped and all seem to be in form, so I'm expecting a decent result from one of them at least. I'll post later on to let you all know how Dave's going, and I'll try to do a few updates from day two proper tomorrow, GL!

playing 9T to a preflop raise when shortstacked seems... O.ó... alright but I'd have been dissappointed if you hadnt pushed with the draw on the flop, seems quite reasonable! As you say you have outs regardless. Dont beat yourself up, sounds like it was just one of those tournies.

Wish Dave, Frank and Andy the best of luck will you!

    DeV.

I'd wager Dave's table will almost certainly be TV feature table down there too, with not only tourney chip leader and world's best poker player Antonius but also reigning Aussie Millions champ Lee Nelson on it too.

In case you all didn't know Dave finished the day on 68k. Not bad at all, he got paid off in a 5 way pot from the BB on a K33 flop with 83, when some guy called him down with a king.

He was playing REALLY well yesterday when I was at his table, very relaxed and thinking every decision through fully. The call with the 9T was sheer class, I think maybe one in ten players make that call. I certainly don't anyway, I can't remember how it played out 100% but it was a very good call. So yeah I doubt that being on Antonius's table will phase him, Antonius isn't a lunatic and he'll choose players to pick on and players to avoid, Dave will be on his list of players to avoid I'd think.

Just been chatting to pro railbird DaithiO, he's having trouble filing updates on Boards due to some problem with the IP address Down there.

Andy now has "mountains", around 400k probably.

Dave C hanging in there on 80k, lost a large pot just before the final level of Day 2 after being up to 140k, I think DaithiO said.

Fintan had around 150k, he thought.

Andy Black shows no fear versus David Pham

Andy Black raised to 12k on the button and David "The Dragon" Pham reraised to 35k from the small blind. Black put in a fourth raise to 115k and Pham thought for a few minutes before showing the K spade and mucking. Black flipped over Kc9h and declared, "We're gambling!"

In all fairness, the guy had some good results before the WSOP and is clearly a player to be reckoned with.

Oh I know, and I'm not ragging on the guy, but his name will be associated with that hand for a long time. And he would have been a much more respected winner than assclown Gold.

Well played to the three lads still in.

Andy knows this better than anyone. Not sure if you would have played many multi-day deep-stack tournaments, DeadParrot, but whether you have or not, you will undoubtedly appreciate that they are a severe test of mental strength and stamina. Andy pursues a range of mental, physical and spiritual disciplines that he feels help him in this regard. Here is a TV interview with him, filmed late last week after he picked up $100,000 for winning the $3,500 PLO Aussie Milions tourney in Melbourne.

Such a load of pants he's getting good at them again, tourneys are so annoying no matter how well you play at some point you end up in a massive race that basically decides the tourney for you, hate that ****.

ul Dave & FIntan. Both wp to get in the money. Dave giving up tournaments would be ridiculous, you've played in like 5 total and prob earned more money out of them than most of us here!

Andy Black up to 560k in 6th position with average at 360k. CL, Haralabos Voulgaris has 1M. DeadParrot I know what you are saying, but IMO Andy goes far in these tournaments by playing his own unique, aggressive, "attack the big stacks" style. Nobody including Phil Ivey can deal with this! All methods have a few drawbacks however and Andy has worked hard in the last 2 years to try and minimise the risk associated with his style. I believe he is a much more rounded player than he was in WSOP 2005 and he is one of the favourites now.

Can't believe luckbox Patrik Antonius is still there. He went from CL yesterday to tilting off about 250k to drop to 3k. Doubled, trebled, doubled yesterday to get back into it. I just read he doubled a little while ago with 77 v 99 (he hit a 7 on turn) and is back on 400k!

Is Jimmy 'Gobboboy' Fricke a teenage relative of Jabba the Hut? An advertisement for avoiding prolonged periods of sitting on your ass in front of the PC if ever there was one.

Well done to Dave C and Fintan for cashing, hope Andy takes it down.
