"Suck em and see!"

There was an ad on tv a few years back (maybe 6-8) and it was for something medicinal like pain killers, or throat lozenges etc..

My mate and I were talking about it the other day and can't remember what the hell it was advertising, it's driving me nuts.

Basically it's an ad of (if memory serves) a kinda seethrough bloke and he's sore somewhere (not too sure)....anyway, he takes the tablet and it cures him. the final shot is of him holding the product to the camera and saying in a deep voice "Suck em and See!"

I know it's not much to go on but has anyone a clue as to what it was for?

    Thanks

    Tumbs?

I always thought he said 'Soccamen C' - I assumed this was some new wonderous ingredient. Then I listened to it properly one day. Boy did I feel thick.

I thought their slogan was "chewy not chalky" ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Chunks

I know it wasn't Hacks cos they used the cartoon frogs fighting it out in the throat as their advertisements.

I know it's not Andrews Antacid cos thats disolvable and not suckable unless you want to look like a rabid dog or a woman on the blob :D

It isn't fishermans friend cos coincidentally enough my Dad's company was responsible for selling them over here and he's the marketing Director

It's not remegel cos they were chewy not chalky as c-13 pointed out.

Good brain storming though, we'll get it eventually :)

I hope it's wrecking some other peoples heads now too :p

    Could it be Altoids?

    http://www.suckemandsee.co.uk/

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 630 ✭✭✭MagnumForce

No, not Altoids, Altoids don't sound familiat at all, plus the fact that they are sweets, the product we're looking for was some sort of cold/flu medicine or something like that.

    Zubes ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,957 ✭✭✭trout

maybe i'm mistaken ... but ... i just can't get Remegel out of my head

i have a clear memory of the ad ... a transparent fella with a red/yellow stomach obviously in some degree of discomfort ... moans and groans a bit until the day is saved by a green/blue/white packet of Remegel ... at the end of the ad, the transparent fella, with arms aloft and settled tummy strikes a pose and says "suck 'em and see" ... am i losing it? (don't answer)

i do remember the "chewy not chalky" tagline also ... but i think that was a later version of the ad campaign (and the things did taste chalky)

lads ... we need this settled!

Are you sure it wasn't an inhaler? I think Vick's Sinex is the product.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,584 ✭✭✭c - 13

Isnt Vicks sinex a nasal spray ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,793 ✭✭✭✭Hagar

Yes nasal spray, that's the phrase I couldn't think of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,635 ✭✭✭Conar

I wouldn't fancy sucking on a nasal spray, I don't think many others would either.
Theres no way it could have been that!

IIRC, it was for Halls throat lozenges.

Yeah I'm thinking it was for Halls Mentholyptus too.

When the guy said it, he was on the box of the product, he was blue i think, either that or green, and he'd turn to the camera and say "Suck 'em and See!" and turn back into his original pose which was found on the box.

Edit: This isn't it but its a picture i found while searching for a picture of anything related to the phrase "Suck 'Em And See":

    suck_em_and_see.jpg

    Ha!

At least that sounds like something that could be in it. I always thought it said "Succulent C". :(

I'm fairly sure that it was Andrew's Antacid. They definitely did a chewable/suckable version. Can't find a link to the ad itself but here's the suckable version.....

There was a Vicks throat drops ad on for ages in the 80s - used to drive me mad. Some little girl with a cough and her dad gives her some Vicks throat drops and she goes 'Taste's so pineappley' or something like that.

Oh my God you have brought back memories....EVERYONE had those Vicks throat drops in school. It was like the cool thing to buy in the shop. I can still taste them. Do they still sell them?

was just discussing this slogan with OH and this age came up when googled. Heres what I found and pretty sure it is as OH Wiganer born and Bred which is where Uncle Joes come from.

Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls keep you all aglow
Give ‘em to your grannie and watch the beggar go
Away with coughs and sniffles, take a few in hand
Suck ‘em and see, you’ll agree
They’re the best in all the land

So did I:D..like Vitamin C except it was some new ingredient:o. Can't think what it was for though. I'm nearly sure it was for some kind of lozenge...like Strepsils, Soothers or Hacks or Tunes.

NO idea what I thought it was supposed to actually mean but I remained convinced that that's what it was right up until last year :o
