Yea um, i sprained my ankle skateboarding about 2 and half weeks ago, it was pretty bad pain when I fell but the pain went away and came back that evening. I can move my foot and everything so it wouldnt be ruptured. But the swelling was pretty bad and I had bruising too. Its still a bit swollen around front of ankle. it hurt when I try to stretch it down or forward. Can anyone tell me how long these take to heel?

its so damn annoying, Ive been just icing it and got a bandage thingy for it during the day. Also using arnicare. Try to elevate foot in bed.

But I saw an injury on youtube similar to mine where the guy broke his foot, how would you know if its broken? Its been irritating today for some reason.

    Basically a bit of advice.

In my experience, any time I've torn or broken something I haven't need to ask because it's something you just KNOW. THe pain would be crippling if it was broken.

Get it X-rayed in case tho obviously.

Yea its not broken, I kinda knew after looking at pics on google:)

I did my ankle in very recently. I followed the RICE principles to bring the swelling down as much as possible.

After that it's mostly a case of getting back full mobility (stretching calves, concentrating on walking normally instead of limping, working on full dorsi-flexion of the ankle, etc.) - I went to a physio myself, 30mins later and basically all done except to keep up the mobility exercises & wait for the ligament to heal up properly - can't beat that!

If you have badly torn it you may need it strapped for a while. Also, if in doubt, get it checked out. I am not a physio or an MD.

Thanks, yea I think Ill start stretching it maybe go to a physio, but how long does it taketo tatally heal as skateboarding requires alot of flick of the ankle etc, I will of course always be wearing some kind a strap around it from now on

get it checked out, i had a bad sprain and it turned out to be an avulsion fracture where bits of bone are ripped off as the ligaments get ripped. Took months to get it in order and a good few physio sessions.

I had a bad sprain in January. the doctor told me that NOT walking on it caused the swelling to worsen. You have to get back on the horse, so to speak.
It'll take at least 2 months before you can do much with it, and GET physio, my ankle got a lot better MUCH quicker once I started physio.

Right thanks, wanted to avoid physio in case he told my ankle injury was serious. But I have full motion with it and no bad pain.

Is it not uncomfortable on your neck to have it buried in the sand???

With an ankle strain it depends on which grade it is. I had a grade I last year and was out for only 3 weeks getting regular physio. Grade I is the least serious. Years ago I had a Grade II and let it go and it niggled for 6 months.

Go to a physio not a GP is my advice if you want to get back in action asap.

Think about how illogical this is. Your not gonna be squatting/deadlifting your 1 rep max for a couple of months, sure, but there's plenty you can do - IF you get physio.
