Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I see my local community college is running a Pilates course this coming year, and I was thinking of having a bash at it.

I go to the gym 3 times a week, so would doing this course add anything for me? Would I be better off doing it at my gym (the CC one is cheaper, and I assume the trainer is professional, but you get what you pay for) or is really something most people could teach and learn - I assume that if she's teaching it, she's been trained in it. As I understand it, Pilates tones and strengthens the body - I'm slightly overweight, so would it be pointless doing it until I've got rid of the old bb?

Go for it! I've been doing it for the last year or so along with alot of gym work and I find it great. My posture and shape has changed completely and It help alot in controlling heavier weights. Its important to get a teacher who teaches the basics correctly as this is the key to the whole thing. Some teachers dont explain the breathing techniques correctly and this means that you wont get as much out of the classes as you possibly could. Start at a beginners class, maybe for 10 sessions and get the basics. I would definitlely recommend it though. I spent alot of time in OZ and New Zealand where I started doing pilates and Alot of the Rugby players over there are doing it. Alot of the Gaelic teams here are also starting to do it for injury prevention
