I'm trying to get a resolution of 1280x800 on my laptop, running Fedora Core 5 and KDE ...
I seem to be only getting 1024x768 even though in display settings i have chosen 1280x800.
ive also looked at the xorg.conf file, and any references to screen resolution are to 1280x800.

when i type xrandr into the console i get this ...

    SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
    *0 1024 x 768 ( 333mm x 212mm ) *60
    1 800 x 600 ( 333mm x 212mm ) 60
    2 640 x 480 ( 333mm x 212mm ) 60
    Current rotation - normal
    Current reflection - none
    Rotations possible - normal
    Reflections possible - none

typing xrandr -s 1280x800 doesnt change anything
im a complete newbie so any help would be appreciated

    regards,
    bri

You need to restart the X server after making the xorg.conf changes AFAIK. ctrl+alt+backspace (this will close all open windows so save your work)

I've done that ... still no difference (1024x768 with black bars either side of screen)
