Hmm, I don't have a board to put the pedals on. Am I disqualified?

    nah! show us anyway!! :D

I'm going to cheat. Here's my Behringer FCB-1010 - although, I do have it modified to run on Phantom Power, so no additional mains cable has to be run. Sorry for the blurry cameraphone photo, I'll eventually get decent pics of my rig.

I switched the position of the echo park and vibratrem since because i like tremming my oscillation and when i hit the Stone i messed up the settings on the delay (Stupid tall ugly bastard of an echo park). Much better now :). Not pictured are my ENGL channel switcher, NYC Muff which is on loan from a friend (dreadful thing!) and a WH-4

Im workin on making a new fancy one nearly got all the parts... thats the old setup, :)

Im happy enough to let my Boss GT8 take care of reverbs, delays, chorus, noise gates, compressors, EQs & all that malarky. Id take a photo but it would be even more boring than Karls :D

Its by no means high end stuff, but IMO is better than 8 or 9 pedals, tonnes of crappy patch cables, and cheap maplin powersupplies. So the A/D and D/A probably suck a bit of tone, but all my tone suck is contained and limited to the one box. With the MIDI & relay switching capabilities, its probably the best bang for buck gizmo ive ever bought.

Only stompbox i use at the moment is a mxr zakk wylde overdrive. Have a bunch of other ones lying around but theyve pretty much been consigned to the junk jard.

Some of these set-ups are mad lads. Why on earth would you want to deal with so many effects pedals when there are so many decent all-in-one units out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

i like em, + ^^ thats why im making my new one... for a good proper, sturdy reliable pedalboard with quality parts thats all set up nice n easy

I just got the pedals over the years and they build up... i never bothered gettin multifx units, never really liked em..

If i was to dump most of the pedals I would get a G major and a midi floorboard

Boo-urns to all in ones. Too clunky and you're stuck with one brand's version of all effects. Granted most of my stuff is Boss but I don't like Boss distortion and I love Holy Grail reverb so it makes more sense to me to buy separates. Plus like having everything there ready to tweak mid song. I'll take a picture when I'm home this weekend (no board, the floor is good enough for them).

I love multi fx units for the ability to switch on and off multiple effects.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I have two feet and rarely use more than two at a time

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I can imagine multiple scenarios where I'd want to change delay, chorus, preamp and distortion.

some nice work there lads, keep them coming!
have to say though i'm in the single pedals camp...

Mine here, sorry bout the phone camera quality! From far to near: Boss LMB-3 Bass Limiter/Enhancer, Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive, Morley Dual Bass Wah, Ibanez digital delay. All stored in and powered by the Boss BCB-60 board!

i've only got two pedals at the moment :(
an Electro Harmonix NYC Big Muff and an Electro Harmonix Russian Bass Balls.

i dont even use the bassballs anymore, imo its not a very usable sounding pedal. maybe just for playing around with.

i have plans to buy some BYOC kits (build your own clone) first off is a compressor. :)

I'm in the single pedals camp too, sitting by the campfire playing cowboy songs with John on our Gretsches.

    That's right.

I ordered one! Money is being sent out tomorrow..

i've a serious disliking to anyone that has a micro synth pedal purely because i can't afford one , because i'd love to be able to muck about with one. ohh my day will come soon :D

I only use two, PodXT Live and a Carl Martin Hot Drive’n Boost MK3.

People who can actually play well, usually need less pedals to hide behind.

I use distortion, and a WAH.

Not everyone hides behind effects though, they can be used subtly to great effect (pun intended, if it even counts as a pun). I get your point, a lot of players use them as a crutch, I know I have in the past but really a large pedal board does not equal having poor technique.

Yep, me only has two pedals aswell :o
MT-2 Metal Zone and Digitech Grunge pedals.
Was lookin' into a multi effects, but will wait til the funds are available before I do anymore diggin', still like the thought of a pedal board though.

How's the Metalzone working out for you DeadSkin?

You know, up untill last year I was strictly no effects, and even now I'll run a dry signal most of the time, just plug the guitar straight into the amp. This doesn't mean I can play well though. ;)

    Alot of tweakin goin on!!!!
Still prefer the digitech at times, but I think that's cos I have been messin with that for the last 9 months or so.
Only messin with the Metalzone for the past week.
But what I really do like about it though is when I play in Drop D, crank up the amp and swwweeet!!!

I ordered a 6120SSLVO on a MONSTER deal. A whole grand off normal retail price.
Good ol' Candy Apple Red guitars..

Actually, he's got a TR for just over a grand at the moment, ex-display. It doens't have the Filtertrons, but Hi-Lo-Trons are very highly spoken of. Hell, if it's good enough for George Harrison.

Yeah, the Metalzone can be annoying to dial in at times, one little nudge of a knob can affect the tone a lot. Glad you like it though.

    Complete rubbish IMO.

If you said some people who can play well use less effects it would be fine. Name the best of the best in most genre's, and you can be pretty sure at least half of them have decent sized pedal boards.

only pedals i would maybe want to add at some stage in the future are a volume pedal, a big muff and an akai sb1 deep impact bass synth.

    christ...
if the less pedals you have=more talent you got,
then in theory i should just about able to pull off a C chord....

sorry mate, the headrush is like my garfunkel,or gerome or...you get the idea!
i'm using it alot to write at the moment it's much easier to get a loop going and play over it than to my brother to tears having him play three chords over and over again while i try to work out something over the top

i loved my vintage AD-9 until i left it in a taxi :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Aaaagh i want another one, ill just buy it again i suppose... Thats the second time this has happened, i bought two whammys and im just after selling the second one yesterday, ill probably buy another one in a few months lol. Did you tweak the AD-9 trimmers for longer delay time? Do you know how long of a delay the reissues have? Is it 300ms or 500ms?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭punchdrunk

yeah i hate when you regret selling pedals, sold an original rat that i sorely miss, the reissues are crap by comparison i opened both up and the original circuit looked nothing like the reissue

the delay time on my original was around 300 ms apparently,i didn't tweak cause i loved the sound the first time i plugged it in,instant huge neil young reverb/delay sound (i used it on quite a short time setting) done great spaceship sounds too! also able to do the coldplay chimey delay thing
    i miss it so!

here's the whole lota them now in the best configuration and setup i can think of.. tis practical and the pedals are in the best way to fit on a custom board

    what ya think

    pedalsnewsetup.jpg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

    Two questions:
    1) Why do you have the tuner so deep in your chain?
    2) Why do you have the Super Shifter after the delay? I find that it works best when it's the first effect in your effects loop, especially when using the harmonist function as you get a lot of unwanted glitches when you've got other effects on the guitar signal going into it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

well i had to compromise too i dont want to have to lug around a huge pedalboard, i know its gona be big, but they fit nice that way, so the tuner jus ended up there

I only arranged em like that today, but u got me thinkin... i could have the

fx loop send > super shifter > Phaser > chorus > delay > fx return

that would make more sence, i havnt wired em that way yet, or tried em out but i know i wanted delay last for best results..
