Adductor strain

Has anyone here had the misfortune of suffering one of these? Playing football myself and have had this for a few months now, it's my kicking leg too. Basically, if I run at 50% it's fine - I won't feel a thing. But when I push it up to the 75% mark it starts to kick in. Haven't tried 100% yet as that would be just stupid at this stage. Kicking a ball is fine too, which is weird.

It's a niggling injury that has me sidelined for a few months and was wondering if anyone here has had a similar problem?

    Thanks.

I had the same thing, for about a year
Mine hurt with about the same level of running, but I also had a sharp pain if I tried a side footed pass...
Id cease all activity that causes any pain for at least a few weeks..
I played through mine and prolonged/made it worse

did you try a physio yet?

Tried a physio but he said it was a hard area to work on, plus he couldn't find the sore point in the area. Did you go to a physio for yours?

What stretches did you do? Is it fully healed now? Any other tips?

    Thanks.

Yeah I had the same problems with the physio
Ended up going to a specialist in VHI in Balally but by then it was too hard to recreate the pain.

I am pretty much pain free now, though it can be a bit stiff when I am warming up.

I just did plenty of groin stretches before any activity and iced afterwards

Good to hear it cleared up for you. I've had mine for nearly 6 months at this stage, a nuisance to say the least.

For the year you had it, did you stop playing team sports completely or did you play with it for some of the period? And when you decided to start back playing properly, was the injury completely healed? I'm wondering this as I could play, but not sure when to go back - because I can't see it getting better when it's been this long.

I got it dec 05, played on as normal until about March but then got sick of the icing and pain so I stopped altogether for about 6 months
Im back playing weekly now since then and other than a bit of stiffness its pretty much grand.

I did a few physio sessions once I had stopped but, as you said, its a pretty hard thing to treat...the consultant gave me some drugs but by that stage it was pretty much quiet anyways

Domer over in the athletics forum is a physical therapist who had a nasty adductor tear years back. He might be worth asking via pm for an opinion. If he can't do anything for you he may be able to suggest who you should go to.
