I posted this in the cycling forum before I found this one. Sorry, mods.
Due to over-consumption of all things during the festive season I want to get an exercise bike to burn off some of the pounds. Ok, stones.

Can anyone recommend one and where they might be purchased?

    Thanks.

    Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

Argos had some ad on the other night, had an excercise bike for £100, it was english prices, but there's a good chance they have the same deal going over here..

EDIT: Oh here it is.. http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=30001&langId=-1&catalogId=10151&productId=676610&Trail=C%24cip%3D44184.Sports%2Band%2Bleisure%3EC%24cip%3D44297.Reebok%3EC%24cip%3D44298.Reebok%2Bexercise%2Bcycles&categoryId=44298&clickfrom=image Amazing how they convert £100 to €200 ..

I'd imagine you'd need to spend a bit more than €200 for something decent. Anyone?

Thanks though, Wez. Argos look like they have some interesting stuff.

ye but you have to be realistic and think are you actually going to get any more then €200 worth of value out of it. most people who buy this sort of equipment never use them and it just ends up taking up needles space.

My advise would be to take up walking with view to picking up running. If you can keep this up for around 2 months chances are that you will get value if you then buy a bike, if you can't keep it up then you will probably have saved yourself at least €200

Too true, many will buy them now at a good price in the sales for their new years resolution.

Best to take up jogging as suggested, if you can stand that for 2 months then buy a good bike second hand, you know you are commited at that stage, all the new years dropouts will be trying to sell their "christmas sales bargains" for next to nothing! and barely used!

If you have given up your own resolution by then you have lost nothing, just like jsb said ;)

I have a bit of a problem with shin splints which is why I was trying to go down the bike road. We'll see though.

Have a look at getting one second hand you will be surprised how many people buy them adn then don't used them and then sell them on.

    Indeed.

To be honest, I would recommend a real bike over an exercise bike. First of all, a real bike can be a lot easier to set up for you shape and structure which can prevent injury. Add to that that actually cycling is far more fun that pretending to and your on to a win.

I know people always talk about weather as if that is an excuse not to be outside but come on, that’s what rain coats and showers are for.

I agree, just get a real bike. At this time of year you'll get a good deal too. You could also get one of these:

    http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/advSearch_h.asp?idCategory=171&fp=bnd&resultCnt=50&order=3

Great for winter as it gets dark so early and a lot more comfortable as you use your own bike.

I bought a York C500 exercise bike in Lifestyle Sports last Christmas, for ~130 euro.
Great bike, very sturdy, smooth and has good resistance settings.
I use it at least twice a week and its very good.

If you were gonna lash out 200 notes, you might be better off going to a gym. The likes of Jackie skellies is only about 300 a year and you'll get so much more from a modern gym than, what is likely to become the most expensive coat hanger you ever owned. (if you're anything like me)
